No Man's Sky The Abyss

The Abyss Update Releases Today for No Man’s Sky

As reported last week, No Man’s Sky was going to reveal a new update this week called The Abyss. Hello Games gave us a little surprise and released it earlier today. Numbered at 1.7, this newest update isn’t a spooky update as we previously speculated but a full fledged addition to what is No Man’s Sky.

The Abyss adds a lot of functionality to the oceans on planets that really bring the underwater to life (no pun intended). Check out this short list of what this new update has to offer.

  • New underwater creatures
  • More story missions
  • Underwater wrecks, ruins, and treasure
  • A diving helmet
  • Underwater biomes
  • A submarine that includes technology to upgrade
  • New base parts
  • Better swimming controls, including the use of the jetpack
  • New products for crafting
  • A new vehicle shop and updates to Freighters and Frigates

Check out the full list and details here and watch the video below to see what this update has to offer. It’s a surprisingly beefy update considering Next came out just a few months ago. And if the message from Hello Games is anything to go by there is plenty more to come for No Man’s Sky. As with all updates for the game, The Abyss is also free.

What do you think of the new update? Do you like the new additions to the game?

That’s a really nice update as the oceans were almost pointless before this. I’m glad they recognized that such large portions of the worlds served almost no purpose and they rectified it.

So, I just bought No Man’s Sky on PS4, and recently on PC as well. Before the update (on PC) I’ve found countless planets with oceans… but now? Not a single one. I take it I’m just unlucky? lol

Thats awful, i haven’t played it for a few months but while i was actively playing 9 out of 10 planets i landed on were water rich. The moons were mostly waterless though.

This is great! After the Next update it felt like there were finally large mostly ocean planets. Which felt more realistic- not that I would know. But now this adds so much more depth!

Too bad I just now picked up God Of War, the center of the universe might have to wait a bit longer.
