Wow…I might finally be able to play games I want to play now. The review blitz appears to be over.
CoD Online BETTER remain free
And I don't say that because I play it online a lot; in fact, I don't ever play it nor do I intend to. I say it because considering the situation, the publisher absolutely positively does not need added income on top of the $1 billion+ each installment generates. Modern Warfare 2 topped that ridiculous number and after $650 million in the first week for Black Ops , I'm sure the latest entry will move into the absurd billion-dollar range. Yes, EA has their Online Pass but when it comes to Call of Duty specifically, I can't imagine why Activision would need to monetize the online play. So when I heard a big boss say they would "never charge" for said service , I sort of went, "…yeah, and you better not . Hell do you need it for?" Yes, we all know Activision likes money, but all publishers like money.
I have no problem with Black Ops (besides the fact that they released a somewhat shoddy product in terms of technical polish), but I do have a problem with needless money hunting in the face of gigantic revenue numbers. I can't wait for them to try to convince us they're losing money on the cost of maintaining the servers for CoD online. As if the DLC and overall profit stream isn't enough. I'm just waiting .
Not sure if I'll ever care about Mass Effect
You would think I'd love it, if only because of the lack of RPGs I really want to play this generation. And I admit I didn't try the sequel, although I'll probably try to review it next year when it comes to the PS3. But the original really left a bad taste in my mouth – I still say it's little more than a mediocre third-person shooter combined with an okay story and a few RPG elements – and that remains. Everyone is excited over the possibility of a Mass Effect 3 teaser video at the Spike VGAs, but I'm having trouble caring. Maybe it's just because I still prefer the traditional sword 'n staff setting rather than the sci-fi theme. After all, I can't wait for Dragon Age II …but those games play very differently, don't they? They also feature very different design styles and environments, so…
But maybe my mind will change when I try ME2, and then I can get all hyped up for ME3. For the time being, I'll stick with Dragon Age and Fable III . No turn-based in sight but whatever.
Personal gaming update
As I said before, the deluge of new releases has finally abated and I can play three games I actually want to play: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood , Fable III and Gran Turismo 5 . I haven't started the latter but I'm knee deep in Brotherhood and I know for a fact I'll have to finish it before focusing on something else. I'm actually thinking that something else might be Fable III rather than GT5…the racer will take up a lot of my time, and I'm really aching to play an RPG. Besides, I've got almost two months until the next game that I want hits store shelves ( Dead Space 2 ), so time shouldn't be an issue. I played the first hour of Fable III just to get a look at it. I have no comments just yet but I do have high hopes.
And maybe, just maybe, if everything goes smoothly and I have plenty of time, I'll pick an old-school RPG to go through again. I was actually thinking about DQVIII or Suikoden III …
I should have also started on brotherhood before GT5 because it might be months before I get to play it now, what with GT5s brilliance
I don't like the new Mercedes Benz, the way the doors open, just looks stupid.

Am I reading that wrong? $650 in the first week? Typo? lol
I suspect that'll be $650 million…well, I *hope* that's what it means…
Yeah, I'm pretty sure thats what he meant. I really wasn't sure if I was just reading it wrong lol
That would be great if a CoD earned six hundred fitty bones only.
Yes, fixed.
PGU
GT5, GT5, GT5, GT5, GT5,….
Oh, and Hexyz Force on the PSP, which I'm playing when not near the PS3.
Ben, if you have a PSP handy and want an old skool JRPG, Hexyz Force provides, and doesn't really worry about being a bit of a dungeon crawler with a turn based combat system and some item synthesis.
PGU: i got singularity from gamefly and played it. i really enjoyed that game. it has a very bioshock feel to the game play but its an awesome game. i thought the story and gameplay was great. shame the multiplayer is dead.
i picked up gt5 and honestly i love it. i am amazed with the game. i brought it to my buddies house for thanksgiving just to prove it exists lol. we played for like 4 hours. then i got home and pretty much redid the things i did at his house and didnt care. i love driving in this game. b-spec mode is pretty cool watching the game drive for you. i am completly happy with this game.
if anyone wants to race at some point add me
I'm gonna try ME2 cuz I like RPGs and Sci Fi/Space Operas. But they can think again if they expect me to pay full price for it.
I wouldn't get too excited for Fable III Ben, I haven't played it, but I hear that it devolves into fetch quests to get things to make people like you and join your cause. I liked the first one though so who knows.
I just finished Crisis Core, man that was the first Prequel to anything that I really enjoyed, that was better than anything that SE has put out for this generation of consoles. So epic. For my turn based fix I got Crimson Gem Saga. Just beat Bioshock for the second time and the good ending. I kinda wanna replay New Vegas, but there's other games I haven't even gotten to yet. Good thing I don't get any new ones till Xmas.
You will pay full price for it World, but it will come with a lot of DLC, worth approximately $30. I think there's a good chance of a lot of free DLC included in the game, because since I have ME2 for 360 (multi-console owner ^.^), I downloaded free weapons and armor, a free character and vehicle+missions for it. Although it's not implied in #2, all the DLC I've downloaded for free will no doubt be important in #3 (especially the DLC character).
So? Aren't you reminded of Suikoden? A lot of those 108 SoDs were only obtained by "fetch quests." I have no problem with it. 🙂
I don't mind them either, but if it's true what they say and that is ALL the game is once you become Das Furher, then it might not be so great. I can't say of course, in fact I'd like to hear your impressions once you finish it.
Crisis Core is on my hit list.
Ben, you sure you want to be vouching to review ME2 when you openly admit to not liking the series, or sci-fi? I'm not suggesting you're biased, but it just seems that it would go without say that a critic of a game should have at least a neutral disposition for the game they're reviewing. But I dunno, It just seems that way to me.
Basically, I wouldn't want a big time Virtua Fighter player who openly admits to disliking Tekken to be reviewing the next big Tekken game. If you get my meaning.
And the other PSXe reviewer, John Shepard, kinda has first dibs, don't you think? =p
And I happen to really have liked ME1's story… grrrr!
As for the other topics…
I don't really care if CoD goes pay to play. I guess as a matter of principle, I wouldn't want CoD serving as a catalyst to cause most every game to become pay to play online… so boo! on pay to play!
I'm installing GT5 onto my PS3 HDD. I just wanted to install the huge installation and download any current updates before Christmas day.
There's two major points I think are significant about GT5.
Simulators and physics work best on PS3 compared to the console competition. Some here may know already, but the PS3 is a FLOPS powerhouse. So much so, scientists purchased PS3's by the pallete just to calculate their crazy alogorythms. No other peice of hardware at the time could crunch as many flointing point operations as the PS3 could at that price point. This alone makes it superior from a hardware perspective. Forza players may cry that their game is de-coupled from the screen refresh rate at 360hz, but that doesn't mean the physics calculations are more precise. In fact, one of my favorite tracks in GT5 Prologue was the Daytona course. It was so awesome because of those subtle undulations in the road surface. At higher speeds, a player really had to focus holding their car steady from breaking traction even on straight ways. Before GT5 Prologue, I never experienced this before in any racer. It suggests to me that the physics engine is insanely ahead of it's class by this alone. And the Nissan 370z feels so much more convincing in GT5 Pro than it does in Forza 3.
Secondly, I think GT5 paints a good example of the production and time constraints that devs face this console generation. That is, GT5's 200 premium cars are meticulously detailed to a level that no other game has achieved. Yet, so many critics seem to criticize the game because not all 1000+ cars are premium. I'm sorry, you guys don't get it. The breadth of the GT series is so massive that in order to get every last car to premium grade you'd have had to wait twice as long. Not to mention, that Sony would've had to spend that much more to produce it. It just becomes way too economically suicidal to try and make money on the series at that point. Do we remember Sega's last multi-million dollar game that went way over budget in production? It was revealed that shortly before Shenmue launched on DC, Sega realized they'd have to sell two copies of Shenmue to every one DC owner before they'd make a profit on the game… sorry, that's putting yourself on the fast track to failure.. and we all know where Sega ended up.
Anyway, I scored some great deals on awesome PS3 games this week. Uncharted Drake's Fortune $4, Infamous $15, Joe Danger $7.50, and, well, Dragon's Lair….I just had to finally play it. Since I was a child I wanted to play it. Now that I have… well… it's got a lot of charm and great animation =)

I review all sorts of things that aren't my bag. Flight sims, for instance. My personal preference has very little bearing on an overall score; trust me. I couldn't care less about Black Ops, but it's worthy of the 8.8 I gave it, IMO.
aww, well, you had me fooled with Black Ops. Here I thought you liked that game. Especially considering that even after you did your review you took the time to finish the game on your own time.
We all need some twitch'n fun from time to time =)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
my t.v has just called it quit's on me!!!no gaming for awhile. BABY JESUS NO!
i have an older style t.v but i refuse to play my ps3 on it. it is just no the same and i will be insulting any game i play on it haha.
ive been searching on the net for my next t.v so far im pretty keen on getting a 50 inch SAMSUNG 8000 series plasma. i seen them in the store before and the picture quality was stunning. and they now have 3D compatibility, and it is now around 2000 bucks so not as expensive as i thought.
does anyone have any suggestions on a quality t.v that wont severly cripple my bank account?? cheer's.
I bought my 48" Toshiba Regza 2 years ago for $1400 and I love it. I'm not the only one who thinks it is a good setup. It was the top ranked LCD t.v. in the 2010 consumer report book or whatever it is.
bloody_rootz,
I'm not sure how these Mitsubishi's stack up to that Samsung you're looking at, but they are much cheaper,
Plus these are all 3D TVS.

My LCD died earlier this year…sadly, these panel screens just aren't anywhere near as reliable as we would've liked.
I hear LED isn't quite so prone to the same problems, but they're still too new to be 100% sure just yet…
LCD and LED TV's are virtually the same other than the lighting standard they use. LCD TV's have traditionally used cold cathode fluorescent lights as a back lighting technology. LED TV's, on the other hand, still use LCD technology but the backlighting is LED instead of CCFL. LED's consume far less power (thus generating less heat, thus enabling thinner panels) LED's are also proven to vastly out last CCFL technology. The advantage of LED's boil down to brightness, longevity, and decreased power consumption. It's the long term wiser investment.

Okay, good. 🙂
Dont get your hopes up for ME2. I liked ME, but i couldnt stand ME2. They made a big deal about how easy it was to control your team but in every fire fight i would end up killing everyone before my team even realized i had my gun out.
I really want Fable 3, but i'll wait for the pc version. Higher resolution, better effects, and community mods. I love pc gaming.
Couldn't disagree more. While I loved the original, I thought Mass Effect 2 was better. The teammates were definitely helpful for me. In my opinion, the game is one of the best of the year. Not spoiling anything, but the final battle and ending were epic.
I think it's worth getting excited about for people who don't own both consoles. It never hurts to have another great game on the PS3 to go with all the rest of the great games.

Yeah, if Activision thinks that they can get away with charging for CoD online, I will riot. Not because I really care, but because the revenue they get out of each iteration in that franchise is greater than the GDP of a small country… Downright ridiculous, and I can't abide by it.
I might be interested in ME3, but I've got a backlog two or three hundred hours long, so it'll take a year on Pluto for me to catch up. I'm alright with buying shorter games, because you can blitz them in little more than a week, but when you've got a game that'll take fifty hours or more to get through the campaign… No.
Personal Update:
Finished Bioshock 2, posted the review, it's over there <<< somewhere. Also playing GoW:GoS again when I feel like ripping a few things to pieces.
Still going on Dorian Gray, and loving the philosphical nature and views of it. It was hard to get into after the humorous style of Catch-22, but it's all good.
And GT5… Need more be said? Matter of fact, I'm going back to it now. Fare thee well.
Peace.
PRU (Personal Reading Update): Finished The Count of Monte Cristo (Dumas) and will start D.H. Lawrence's "Women in Love" next week. After "Three Musketeers," I knew Dumas could tell a great story and I was right. 🙂
I read the Count of Monte Cristo years ago… Unfortunately it didn't stay with me, so I may have to pick it up again sometime. And The Three Musketeers is a timeless classic. And I've never heard of Women in Love, but have heard of D.H. Lawrence… lemme check… Lady Chatterly's Lover. That was another one I was tossing up purchasing last time, but I bought Dorian Dorian Gray instead.
Peace.
I've read some Lawrence but, perhaps surprisingly as they are his best known works, neither Lady Chatterly nor Women In Love. I have seen the movies, though. 8P
The new racing wheel for Gran Turismo is soooo sweet. It's so much better of a game with the wheel. Thinking the $300 wheel with the clutch pedal and 5 speed shifter might be something worth upgrading to.
i am really wanting a wheel now with gt5. i have been wanting the $300 logi wheel figured i would save for it. do you have a gripe with the one you have now?
new to the site and loving it great cmmunity. please dont kill me but liking NFS much more then GT5. GT5 just seems so slow.
welcome to the site.
just think of it this way, nfs is an arcade racer while gt5 simulates real life. it may be slower paced but it cant be matched in realism.
either way they are both good games and there is nothing wrong with your preference.
makes sense same but differnt kind of games both good in differnt ways.
Lol Dundeal… that made me laugh… actually, I am enjoying NFS Shift thoroughly at the moment.
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
fable 3 was a big let down to me they dumbed it down so much
Some quick questions, how do you reply?how do you get rid of the ads covering the articals? PGU NFS so sick,GT5,Halo Reach,Black POS,Madden,Fifa, and always Killzon2 multiplayer best online shooter EVER!
There should be an icon like an envelope under the date of the comment (and the poster's name). It should also say "Reply". Click it and you should see "In reply to the post you clicked" under the comment box.
BikerSaint has reported that the "Reply" button disappears on him sometimes and no one knows why, so if you can't see it, maybe that's happening to you too.
p.s. there are also buttons there for "Report" and, on your own posts, for "Edit" and "Delete".

thanks Fane found it.
I use FireFox and AdBlockPlus is a godsend app that can be downloaded for free.
busy busy busy. instead of charging for online play i think they would be better off creating DLC's, like silly little things like a panda suit for $1.00. Charging for online play wouldnt be good, you need as many players as possible to help keep the community alive and attractive.
mmm yay time for women of ninja warrior <3
i agree that CoD BETTER remain free. i love it, but i would REFUSE to pay a fee just to play.
theres other alternatives that i support equally or even more so like BC2(which i LOVE) KZ2, UC2 or RDR that are free.
if CoD ever gets a fee, i will drop all support i have for it.
btw battlefield bad company 2 vietnam… anyone as excited as i am?

Fane,
Yeah, It drives me "Nucking Futs"
For me, that reply button actually winds missing on quite a lot of posts, & if someone has already used it just once, it has completely disappeared on me
Soooo, unfortunately for me(and all of you readers out there in monitorland), I wind up having to scroll down until I can find the next available reply button still there(belonging to a completely different poster), & just do my reply from that one.
GRRRRRRRR!
Last edited by BikerSaint on 11/28/2010 12:15:45 AM
So THATS why you wind up posting all over the place, I was wondering about that. Does it vanish altogether or is it there but the image isn't loading? Cuz you should check to see if the pointer becomes a finger when you mouseover. And get yourself some firefox if you don't use it already.
Bikersaint, the same thing happened to me on another site (syracuse.com). I finally switched from IE to Chrome, and then to Firefox. I haven't had any problems since. I use Firefox because AdBlock Plus is a godsend. Best browser add-on ever.
BikerSaint – You're aware the reply button is only on the initial comment? Those below the original comment don't get reply buttons.
@ Alienange
I was going to post that as well, but as much as BikerSaint is on here and as much as this problem annoys him, I assumed that he realized that. Plus, I think I've seen him be a second (or later) reply.
I have a pre-order fully paid for for Dead Space 2. I even dl'ed and got all the trophies for that bad hacking/puzzle game. I'm pumped for Dead Space 2.
After I beat that, I might give ME2 a shot. Definitely needs to be in the $30 range for me to pick it up, though.
World,
It's strange, the reply button is just missing altogether on only the posts that were already replied on by someone else, & it's like that button was never there to begin with(but I can still see the yellow triangle spam button even in those posts where the reply button is missing. And running my mouse over the spot where it should be doesn't do anything(no pointing finger icon), so my mouse doesn't detect even a hidden presence of the button,
Damned Gremlins!
Matter of fact, your reply & the next 3 posts down after yours had no reply button either, so I had to make this reply from the next post after them that still had a reply button, which was "GuernicaReborn"'s post.
It's always been this way for me ever since I first joined the site & using Windows. But I had changed over to Mozilla's FireFox when we first started getting those intrusive ads(which I already had a heated argument with that "self-absorbed, thinks-he-knows-it-all" Spartan twit over in our forum), & the missing reply button is still the same problem.
This is the only site & forums that I've ever encountered this weird missing reply button problem, and believe me, I've been of at least a 100+ sites & assorted forums over the years, so I know it's not me.
BTW, I've left very many posts on this very same complaint in a lot of prior posts dating back about my replies being all over the place during the last 2 years, but nobody from the site, or the webmaster himself, ever get's back to me about finding a cure or temporary fix for this problem.
So since they haven't cared about it, then "F" it, and I'm certainly not going to get my panties all wadded up in a bunch over it either, LOL
GuernicaReborn,
Thanks, but I had already switched over to FireFox last year when those $$&#^$%& intrusive ad's started infecting the posts, & it's still continuing to happen(BTW, I switched to FF just for that very AdBlock Plus, yeah very good program).
So I just feel there's no sense for me to keep changing over to any more browsers.
It' the site's problem, not mine, so I/you/we/or anybody else, shouldn't be the ones who have to keep trying to find the cure-all for whatever is ailing it.
Alienange,
It that right?
OK, I understand that & I always do that if I'm replying to that poster & their button's there.
But that makes no sense at all to me if I'm trying to post to one of the other posters who's already replied to the original poster.
And I've never seem another site where you couldn't direct your post exactly to that very person you wanted it to go to. And I've never seen another site that didn't have a button to everyone's post for that very same reason.
