Ben’s Week In Review: March 8

Okay, now I have that fabulous PS3 Prize Pack Giveaway up, I can do my thing. 🙂

Don't sleep on Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams

It should come out this year, and I don't know about you, but I'm thoroughly psyched for this one. I only realized that it had slid beneath my radar when I saw the teaser website had opened. There are just so many fantastic titles on the horizon; it's the only reason this game somehow managed to escape my attention for an extended period of time. I really loved the original – it remains one of my favorite games of the generation – and it was primarily due to the atmosphere. Nothing felt like that game, and I'm including all genres; not just FPSs. There was just something about the environment coupled with those role-playing elements implemented into a standard FPS format… It really got me. I have the highest hopes possible for Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams , and while I still have Uncharted 2: Among Thieves higher on my "most anticipated" list, 2K's sequel is right up there. In fact, just thinking about it makes me want to play the original again! I had always planned to pick up the PS3 version; it would act as an excuse for a replay.

I just never got around to it. Way too many games, you know? Besides, now that I have an RPG sitting there (it's a freakin' surprise these days), I now have my next few weeks of gaming all mapped out.

Just give me Shadow of the Colossus 2 and I'll be happy

It appears that we're mere weeks away from learning about Team ICO's mystery PS3 exclusive , and I'm hoping against hope that it's a sequel to one of my favorite games on the PS2. The level of artistry is still mind-boggling even today, and I enjoyed the entire experience from start to finish. Unbelievably original and endlessly engaging; it's the kind of game that is almost instantly memorable. After killing the first Colossus, I was like, "hey, this is kinda cool," and by the time the second fell, I was completely hooked. I loved them all, and I have a little pride in saying I managed to take all 15 Colossi down without consulting a FAQ…well, all except the 12th. The solution was just too obscure; how was I supposed to know to hit the little spikes on that thing's head with my sword, just so he'll walk in a certain direction? Silly. But beyond that, it was a wondrous adventure, and I sooooo want a sequel. Chances are, Team ICO is preparing another IP, but you never know, because they've managed to keep this project very secret.

The only piece of evidence that makes me believe it's not SotC2 is this: they said they couldn't decide on a title for several months, and one has to wonder…how hard could it be to come up with "Shadow of the Colossus 2?" Yeah, I'm thinking IP.

Personal gaming update

So I'm right at the end of Killzone 2 – the final fight in the palace with Radec's goons (and Radec, I assume). I got up to the second balcony and died a few times, then stopped. I had already been playing for a few hours and I needed to get some stuff done (you know, like this article here). The game rocks, plain and simple. I could elaborate, but there's really no need; most of you already know it rocks hardcore. I downloaded the patch, but I'm not noticing any change in the controls. Then again, I didn't notice any "dead zone" before this, either, so I guess I shouldn't say nothing happened. As soon as I'm done, it's on to Star Ocean: The Last Hope , and I assume I'll play Resident Evil 5 at some point, too. After that, I really don't have hard-and-fast plans until the big titles drop later in the year.

There really isn't much else to report. I didn't go out tonight as I sometimes do, which makes it almost a month since I've done anything social (besides just hanging out with a friend or two). I suppose I should rekindle the club thing next weekend, but I dunno…got stuff to play, you know. 😉

Or Ico3, I kinda want Ico(platforming and all that stuff) rather than big colossi(sp?) again.

But either will do

Can't comment on your FPSs updates, but yes hope Arnold's playing some MLB 2009. That game is HOT!

And lastly, SFIV is just….wow

Yes ICO for me, I want a sequel to SOTC but ICO is just fine, new IP lol I had seen a pic of a new ip that sony bought wonder if that might be it. Damn I died like 30 times in kz2 last lvl and radec was annoying, but everything else was poifect. I didn't like bioshock so not really excited bout next one.
Really excited bout GDC, lol I want another warhawk and obviously ICO's stuff, zipper should show more of MAG, and wonder if Evolution has another MotStrm, hopefully we don't see SE there seeing as they are bound to keep screwing us.

@Arnold,
Part of me is still back in the stone-age, so I don't really know anything about Twitter, or how it works.

FYI, I just joined & put you into it, but I've got 1 question though…..
I see it says something about a cell phone, I don't have one(got rid of the PITA), so do I have to have a cell to make it count, or is it OK if I follow your twitter posts through my computer????
Thanks,

"I really don't have hard-and-fast plans until the big titles drop later in the year." FREE Playtime for Ben!

C'mon though, you didn't notice the controls change? KZ2 now feels much more floaty like Resistance 2 than it does like you are all bulked with equipment.

Oh yeah and wasn't ICO working on a game called "The Queen"?

Definately some interesting titles on the horizon – budgetary concerns though mean I only get 1-3 per year depending on what is going down. Looking at my old collection, I still need to complete a few old games first, not to mention trying to get all those special "expert" modes down in CODIV and CODV. So I have work to do…

I am stuck at a particular point in KZ2; can't seem to get past it; and I can't change the difficulty level mid game I think, therefore it may warrant a restart 🙁

Anyway, so be it…

Which part? I died about 200,000 times today until I passed this one part.

Its the part where you have to click the over grown clunky metal bee machines… that buzzes around… very annoying thing… its got that "worldendswithme" feeling… my own demise… constantly!

Is it the ATAC robot thing on the roof?

You must run out and get it infront of those electric things and shoot at them fast, it will get destroyed by electricity after a while – if you shoot at it, it will just avoid the bullets.

Yeah, lol once you figure out what to do it was kind of easy, but before I was shooting the rocket and it got within a meter away from it then the (female dog) moved just enough to not get hit, lol I slammed the control twice when that happend.

That part was hard. Especially the second time around on veteran can't imagine it on Elite. It isn't the hardest though. The hardest part is where Ben is at. To not get hit by RPG's you have to be in a certain place, it's the longest checkpoint in the game, and it took me like 3 hours to beat that part on normal difficulty. Makes the last boss seem easy.

I am at that exact same point on the hard difficulty. Problem is I have died about 20 times now so I have a hard time getting back to it haha

I also am excited about Bioshock two. The new ICO game is more exciting though. That is for sure. I eagerly await it's unveiling and I hope it's something new. I like how Ueda makes new IPs every game and he makes videogames an art.

Ben there are 16 colossus in SOTC, not 15 :).

I believe the next TeamICO game will have parallels with SOTC just as SOTC did with ICO. The ending to SOTC is by far the greatest ending to a videogame IMO, just amazing and left me speechless and all tingly inside.

Well, I don't really count the final Colossus. He was more like an individual final boss to me, especially considering there isn't any real trick to bringing him down. 🙂

Killzone 2 is hard , but that is how it is supposed to be . I think it is the most accurate representation of war yet. It is supposed to be chaotic and confusing .

Huh …. Slow today. Ben how come Arnold doesn't do a week review maybe you could do it in turns.

I'm glad your hyped up for Uncharted. This way more people will buy it. Whatever you say people will see because you are like a GOD in gaming. 🙂
You probably helped KZ2 get to 4th spot on UK because of everyone here.

It should happen for Uncharted.

Arnold used to do one a week, I don't know why he stopped doing it though. Maybe too much to do and want free time in the weekends

Hey guys about the KZ2 difficulty, I also died tons of time but beat the game in 11 hours and I'm playing now in Elite mode or like I like to call it: "Watch me Die" 🙂 Hope I can actually finish it, I'm at Visari Square now…

KZ2 is great. Anything Team Ico do will be great either if it is ICO 2 or Shadow Of The Colossus 2.

Resi 5 next for me, Uncharted 2 later in the year and the next Call Of Duty/Modern Warfare 2, also probably get Bioshock 2. Soon as KZ2 is completed I am gonna try and complete Bioshock before Resi 5 hits.

The one I am a bit wary of is Godfather 2, I enjoyed the first one but traded it in soon after completing it.

Radec is a bitch to kill. Especially on the Hard level.

Getting to Radec is much harder than killing him.

Shoulda gone with my instincts and put it on easy, I love the game but I'm no FPSxpert. (try saying that out loud)

I've noticed a huge difference in the KZ2 controls after the patch. The "deadzone" thing was really annoying me, to the point where I couldn't enjoy the multiplayer because everyone seemed to have a jump on me. Now I can finally take everything in and enjoy this game much more because I'm not constantly frustrated with the aiming.

Frankly speaking, it's really because of 1st/2nd parties like Team Ico (and Studio Liverpool, Studio Santa Monica, Polyphony, to name a few) that I love Sony's platform above all else. Bluray and HD gaming is a welcomed bonus and is nothing to sneeze at, but the proof is in the pudding.
