I know everyone is super excited for Tom Clancy's The Division but it's just not my thing. I'll play it to check it out but I'm not holding my breath.
I have no idea what to expect from No Man's Sky
I didn't completely understand it when it was first announced (nobody did, of course) but I still don't totally get it.
Even with a finalized launch date , I have lots of questions and despite some new gameplay trailers and footage, I'm still a little confused. I mean, this game could end up being a hugely ambitious triumph that actually stretches the boundaries of interactive entertainment, or it could be a boring, empty experience that gets panned by critics and gamers give up after an hour of playing. Or, it could be anything in between. I really have no clue what to expect and that's pretty rare, especially in this day and age. Given all the information and media we've got for any major new product, we know just about everything there is to know before the game ever hits store shelves.
But I think developer Hello Games and Sony has purposely left this aura of mystery in place. They use a lot of vague statements in their comments about this adventure, and that's definitely intentional. They want us to consider the possibilities of an endless universe that isn't the same for any two players, that has magical discoveries around every turn, that encourages and rewards all at once. But in the end, I maintain that all games still need a goal . One of the reasons I can't stand MMOs is because the only goal to speak of is leveling up; if the only goal in No Man's Sky involves getting more and better gear, for instance, or just seeing more planets, it will feel very underwhelming and uninteresting to me. Doesn't matter if it pushes boundaries; will it be fun ?
This is an entertainment medium, after all.
Not getting Heavy Rain on PS4 and here's why
It really was one of my favorite games on PS3 but now that it has arrived on PS4 , I won't be buying it. There's a reason for that.
In point of fact, I don't think it's a game that has aged well over time. We can't forget that it launched over 6 years ago and that's like an eternity in this industry. So, while my glowing review still stands , it's important to take into consideration the strides gaming has taken since 2010. Storytelling has advanced, voice acting has gotten significantly better, and control has tightened to the point of near-perfection. Gamers sometimes don't even notice such things until they go back a few years and play titles they thought were incredible. In a lot of ways, games like Heavy Rain helped blaze a path; for instance, I'm not sure Telltale's great narrative-driven productions like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones would've existed, and let's not forget newer interactive dramas such as Until Dawn .
But our expectations continue to grow at a rapid clip and I doubt Heavy Rain stands up to newer story-driven productions. I will never agree with those who tore it down then, trying to prove that it's "not a video game" or that the story was pathetic and somehow worse than all the other stories in gaming at the time. Idiots all, with pitifully little literary understanding and an obvious agenda to boot. Even so, one has to admit when a game ages poorly and unfortunately, I think Heavy Rain is one such title.
Personal gaming update
I'm very much enjoying Assassin's Creed Syndicate and I expect to be totally done before the next game I really want – Ratchet & Clank – comes out in April. I should add that I was pleasantly surprised by Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth ; read the review to find out why. Let's just say I never expected to even remotely like anything with "Digimon" in the title, but the developers turned this traditional RPG into a really fun (and more mature) experience, so it doesn't feel like a piece of anime kiddie crap at all . I won't finish it but it comes highly recommended to fans of the franchise, and moderately recommended to people who want a solid turn-based RPG.
I don't really mind the Uncharted 4 delay ; it's only two weeks and it gives me more time to play Ratchet . The only downside is that now May has three games I really, really want, including Mirror's Edge Catalyst (did you see the new gameplay vids ?) and the new Doom . On the plus side, none of the titles in question will be very long, and I don't think there's anything else I want until Deus Ex: Mankind Divided in August. Oh, and to those bashing Far Cry Primal : Shut your face until you've played it.
Syndicate really helped elevate AC back into my pool of anticipated games as AC3 all, but ruined AC for me.
Yea, I'm sure Heavy Rain aged terribly. I played the hell out of the game though. Hated the dumb kid for running in the street. Honestly I hate how they wrote that part as kids are not that reckless.
No Man's Sky look very…boring.
The Division isn't for me either. I love how the graphics tech looks though.
I played enough of Heavy Rain to respect it's efforts but it also wasn't for me.
I'll just be happy when No Man's Sky is released so I don't have to sit through another stage presentation of the game.
PGU: All I've had a little time for is SFV (and some Drive Club). From what I can tell, Ken is everyone's favorite fighter. It seems like I fight two Ken's to one of anyone else.
Anyway, been digging the cool record feature in training mode.
I haven't run into any Ken players today. I run into a lot of Laura's. She's annoying to play against. Too many command grabs imo. I'm really enjoying the game over all. One thing I've noticed is they way they chose to handle lag is frustrating. I get a lot of matches with people teleporting all over the place and just when you land a hit it flickers and you're on the ground and they got some of their health back. I feel like the lag usually favors the teleporting.
Yea, I've had some laggy matches as of late. A couple of which ruined matches for me. Strangely, it seems, in part, the lag is happening more because I'm doing ranked matches now. Most of what I was doing earlier was just casual while I was getting used to my character. Though, I haven't set any connection filters yet, so maybe I'll look into that.
I can't say I've fought any good Lauras yet. I will say I main'ed her in SFA3 back in the day. BTW, Sony finally made that game compatible for PS Vita. Well worth it if you ever see it on sale.
I played a wicked good Rashid in a casual match some days back. Dang. I was so owned.
EDIT: My bad. I confused Laura for Karin.

Yea, so I found I could dig up any replay I wanted so I found that one with Rashid and watched it.
Yea, he was pretty good (not as good as I thought) but I also played like crap.
I had no idea CFN was that awesome. I can go look up anyone and check their replays. Now I can learn from the masters right from the game. How cool is that? Has anyone done that with a fighting game before? Awesome.

The ranked matches are messed up at the moment. Not only does it lag more often but I keep getting paired up with people two sometimes three tiers higher than me with double the LP. Kinda retarded when I face people closer to my own tier in causal match than it ranked match.
Yea the CFN is pretty sweet.

I really wonder why the ranked one's are worse.
When you and I played we went like 10 matches and I seem to remember them being practically lag free. Aren't you even two time zones (EST) away?
btw what I said about SFA3 is about the MAX version for the PSP. They finally ported the feature rich and widescreen screen formatted MAX version to Vita.

Playing Far Cry primal and loving it. Also got the Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls collection as I never played Beyond on PS3 when it came out. I did Heavy Rain and will play that again once I'm done with Beyond but enjoying both Beyond and Primal at the min.

I did enjoy Heavy Rain at the time. It's very unique but it never was a game that I could play over and over again.
Been playing a lot of SFV. I think I'm starting to understand the game better. This isn't a fighting game that wants you to block a whole lot. Many characters, when they put pressure on you it's impossible to get out(Laura!) unless you have a V reversal stocked. It's hard to win if you don't just go balls to the wall while honing you guards in between.
Oh and Twilight Princess HD looks great. My kids are enjoying it immensely.

Im not sure what to expect from No Mans Sky either. But im not looking forward to it because i have a feeling ill spend way to much time on only one planet thinking if I go just a bit further Ill find something and not.
Yeah if I went back to Heavy Rain today I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy it actually. Loved it originally though!
I'm excited for The Division but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to play initially. I'm still right in the middle of Fallout 4 and I havnt played in a few weeks. Fortunately the only other game I plan to get until the end of the year is Uncharted 4.
I'm not getting the division either,i pre-ordered it on psn store an then cancelled, its just not my thing thinking about it in the end, i'm also enjoying assassins creed syndicate only about half way through the game, on my personal gaming front i completed my first playthrough in bloodborne a few days ago after not playing the game for a while and totally enjoyed the exprrience, now got to do the old hunters dlc aswell as playing heavy rain on ps4.
I bought Digimon Story while finishing Witcher 1 and embarking on Witcher 2.
I'm now 24 hours into the game when I wasn't planning on playing PS4. Where did the time go???
Digimon are the champions! Can't wait for Digimon World: Next Order.
Loved that show
I couldn't careless about the division. Online only first person shooter is a big meh for me. I might check it down the road but not now.
I was originally excited for Heavy Rain on Ps4 but once i found that it was digital only in the states and Digital and physical in the United Kingdom Quantic Dream can take the remaster and shove it i'll stick with my OG disc version on Ps3. Im supper excited for NO MANS SKY.
PGU: After earning a couple of plats in Rocket League and The Walking Dead The Complete First Season i think im starting to get addicted to trophy hunting. This Month is Assassins Creed Month for me. I need to polish off AC:Rouge then move on to AC: Liberation.
Super cool about the trophy hunting 🙂 best of luck!
If the stories are enjoyable (I'm assuming it's your first time playing each title) then it makes the hunt all the more sweeter!
Just be careful about the games you pick if all you end up going for is trophies. I got the plat in Rocket League a long time ago. It's definitely one of the easiest platinums to get out there.
Yeah trophies can get extremely overwhelming. The games you mentioned you just have to play the game. Others are a huge undertaking where you gotta go outside the standard gameplay.
The Assassin's Creed games are easy trophies but finding feathers in some is time consuming and you'll most likely have to look up the location maps.
Trophy hunting addiction hurt my games. I do not endorse it.
I feel like I'm literally coming out of a trophy detox. Always evaluating which games I'm going to allocate more of my free time with. Cutting down my all-time Plat list – which games I'm 100% Platting and which I'm playing for fun on Easiest difficulty.
Just personally for me it became so convoluted.
Unless, you got your timetable perfectly on lock then go for it!
Yeah I pick and choose the games I want to platinum. If it has too many trophies that are just mindless grinding with little to no fun factor, forget it. (I'm looking at you, Star Ocean: TLHI, and your battle trophies)
No Division for me. Waiting on some great games at the end of this month: Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, Nights of Azure.
