It's a tried-and-true way of getting attention: pretend you have a leaked date for something big.
Therefore, we urge you to take this with a grain of salt. But according to an "inside source," the highly anticipated PlayStation Vita will release earlier than expected in North America: January 12 .
The video below doesn't prove that date; it's just a slick, in-depth ad for Sony's new handheld, but it's worth discussing if you haven't seen it. As for the date, it's a Thursday and it's only about a month after the unit hits store shelves in Japan. We suppose it's possible, but probable? Maybe not.
Usually, "reliable sources" ask you not to divulge the information. That's one problem. The other problem is that when lesser-known sites make such reports, the logical question arises: why exactly would an inside source, who has no desire to give that information to bigger sources, give it to you? Yeah, we're skeptical but what if it's true?
The Vita in January? Would that even be a good idea? To release a relatively expensive piece of hardware during the holiday hangover month? When everyone's credit cards are burning up and nobody wants to see the bill from December?
