Ben-DutkaEither somebody made it up, or the source is dead wrong. Last week, we reported on the forum buzz that said the latest PSM had an interview with developer Sucker Punch. Supposedly, they were unveiling a new Sly Cooper for both the PS3 and PSP; both of which would be previewed at E3. The news was subsequently spotted by News 4 Gamers (N4G) and thus, made its rounds at a variety of gaming sites. One of the sites to report on it was PALGN , who said essentially what we said, only didn't provide any source. And we were hardly the only ones to take the story and run with it.
But today, it appears the initial reports cannot be confirmed. We were contacted by IGN , who said they couldn't find anyone to substantiate the following original statement made in the first forum post regarding the supposed projects:
"The graphics have been majorly overhauled and the gameplay will be more varied and focused this time around. We're aiming for a fully interactive 3D world, with no loads and seamless interaction between settings and characters."
Neither PSM US or PSM UK have any record of any such interview, which means it was from another magazine, or the entire quote is just plain bogus. We haven't heard anything to confirm this, either, so we need to nail down the correct source or dismiss the entire thing as a very big rumor. We'll be sure to keep looking for info on this, because while Sony and PSM has denied any existence of the games, Sucker Punch (who is indeed working on a "next-gen" project) has not yet officially responded. But we'll update as soon as we hear something.
