In comparison to the Nintendo DS, the PSP is lagging far behind. Furthermore, it took a while for Sony's handheld to acquire a really decent library of games, leaving many to wonder if $250 was worth the price of admission. And even though PSP sales have increased thanks to some excellent games in 2007, there's still a long way to go.
But don't worry, PSP owners, we have a couple promising statistics for you as a late Christmas gift. If you were sweating the constant negative press surrounding the PSP, and you need a bit of a pick-me-up, please refer to the following for a sliver of encouragement and justificiation:
Firstly, Sony has reported that over 1 million PSPs will be sold in the UK by year's end, making the handheld the most successful console of 2006 next to the DS. Secondly, Enterbrain reports that the PSP's latest quality title, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops has broken the 100,000 sales mark in Japan, as of December 21. And although we don't have official numbers for the U.S. or UK just yet, Konami expects to see more good numbers for the game in those regions.
So take heart, PSP fans. Things are looking up, and with more great stuff destined for 2007, you'll soon be even more content with your fancy little console.
