Firmware 2.8 Has Arrived

As we reported last week, the arrival of the latest PSP firmware was imminent. Though not providing a cabal of super new features, a few convenience upgrades and a World Tour Soccer demo still round out a decent package. If you aren't

holding onto the homebrew friendly 1.5, this is what you're going to get:

– You can now download video and image content under [RSS Channel].
– You can now register devices via a wireless LAN access point under [LocationFree™ Player].
– You can now play AAC files with the files extension .3gp under [Music].
– You can now play content saved in "MUSIC", "PICTURE" and "VIDEO" folders on a Memory stick™.

This list comes from the Japanese release of the update (hence no mention of the game demo), but the US version of the firmware should be coming along any time now. In case you've forgotten how to get it, simply find a wireless connection, go to the "Version Update" option on the PSP's media crossbar, and it should download automatically.
