It's great that the PlayStation Vita is getting a Silent Hill . …it's a little strange, but still.
Konami brought Silent Hill: Book of Memories to GamesCom this week and when they unveiled some early footage and details, everyone was a little taken aback . Firstly, it was described as a multiplayer action game (which may or may not surprise you) and secondly, it actually utilizes a top-down or isometric perspective. In addition, we'll be able to create our own character at the start of the game, which sort of makes sense from a multiplayer standpoint. The gameplay features the standard melee combat and what appears to be RPG-like elements, and there's no doubt that developer WayForward attempts to maintain that uber-creepy feel.
Personally, I don't want a Silent Hill that emphasizes multiplayer in any way, and I'm iffy on the top-down thing. If I didn't know better, I'd say they were trying to take yet another franchise in that twitchy direction… But I'm sure that in terms of the gameplay, that's not really true.

Oh geez. This gave me associations to that upcoming PSN "Burnout" game.
Next title, please.

what about the hd remakes no longer being ps3 exclusive? also, can anybody confirm if there will be a retail release for the hd remakes?
Silent Hill? Yes.
If the collection includes Silent Hill's 2, 3 and 4: The Room, all in glorious HD with trophies, D1P!!!
SH4 is not included for whatever reason. I know, it's lame.. :_(
I really can't see how this is expected to work. This is sooo not the format to enjoy a silent hill game in 🙁 The idea of it being a handheld title doesn't work for me in itself, but, an isometric multi-player??
Silent Hill Multiplayer, Top-Down Adventure ? is this some kind of joke ? seriously what the hell?!. they need to get back to the old school Silent Hill from the old days
Yah! This is totally ridiculous.
you what is funny is i think worldendswithme said he was holding out hope for silent hill downpour for his scary fix becuase if there is one series that can't be turned into an action game it's silent hill. then, along comes this game. pretty ironic.

lol XD
hah, well yes but then weirdo portable spin-offs that don't follow any conventions have always been around (Killzone Liberation, Resistance Retribution, Assassins Creed PSP) and I still hope Downpour brings the goods.
Hopefully people understood I was saying this is one series that can't EFFECTIVELY be turned into an action game. And when this flops I will be hailed as the genius I am.
World, you just made me wonder about your IQ. I'm guessing somewhere around 150? 😛
Silent Hill Downpour looks interesting. This doesn't.
And yes excelsior, there is a retail release. You can pre-order now at amazon, thankfully. Hate stacking my hard drive up with downloads so was good news for me aswell 🙂
thank you for the info. that is great news. i always prefer owning the retail version. too bad about the re remakes being downloadable only for na.
Excelsior, Like you, i love the physical copy i can hold and share with friends/family and display on the shelf in my games collection :-). Doubt it will be long before na get their own retail release mind, the whole download thing seems a gimmick to me to make you buy the download thinking you get to be one up on your mates before they then buy and enjoy the game afew weeks later
WTF?… Scratches head and says a Silent Pray to the deceased Silent Hill franchise 🙁
You cant say it's deceased dude till you see Downpour when it comes out. Granted i personally don't think there's been a decent silent hill game since 3 and 2 was the peak of the set in my opinion, but we should give the new game a chance to shine before writing it off based on a poor choice vita add-on that most likely won't even be classed as canon but more as a subsidiary title anyway

You're right C_Spawn, Downpour is looking like it's trying to capture the atmosphere of the first two games, if it succeed, I hope it sells by the millions and maybe they will realize there is still a market for non-multiplayer games… Hope this multiplayer trend does not spill over to the console side.
So lame. This and the fact that the Silent Hill Collection is going to 360 as well. Lame!
Thing is, they can create a top-down mp game as much as they like, sure go right ahead, just make it a new IP!
Why on earth would anyone want to completely ruin a franchise with *idiotic* stunts like these? Why do such a thing?
It just does not make any sense whatsoever, not from an economic point of view, not from an artistic point of view, not from any kind of logical point of view.
That's exactly what I was thinking, Beamboom.
Why not just create a new IP unless you're just trying to use the name as leverage to sell more copies with brand recognition.
How on earth are they gonna get the right atmosphere with a top-down multiplayer adventure?!
It's impossible!
Do i really need to say anything?
The multiplayer bit I could handle. Not sure how it could work in Silent Hill, but I can deal with that. The isometric camera though? That's just stupid.
Sounds like a clone of PSN game Damnation. That one was a lot of fun for me, actually.
Can anyone think of any top down games which are scarey… I just cannot see this working.
Pac-man!
MGS one creeped me out when fighting psycho mantis all alone at home at 3.00 am or so.
The shutdown skill and the "You like to play castlevania" made me scream like a little girl. Then again this was back in 1998 …..god I miss the 90's *sigh*

Hopefully it's just another lame experiment like Ruin. Nobody wants this. Stop trying to kill horror games you evil industry.
…What?
No!! Nononononono!!!!
Silent Hill has always been about scares, single player experiences, wandering a creepy environment all alone!!!
I think you may be right Ben, sounds like this developer is trying to adopt some of those CoD twitch gamers out there. Problem is, it won't work. All this game will do is not appeal to the CoD gamer because Call of Duty isn't in the title and it will further alienate fans of Silent Hill who want a good story and a good scare on their own in the dark!
Multiplayer doesn't make any sense for this series. More people = less scary. I doubt I'll ever see something with the horror caliber of the first Silent Hill, but I'm at least hoping Downpour will come closer than the last three games.
oh lord and another one bites the dust!
what the ^%$# does the silent hill series have to do with top down shooter multiplayer?
soon were going to see kratos staring in a epic race across the desert, and master chief star in his own guitar hero game!
god i hate this generation of gaming!
survival horrors gone.
2D platformers are gone.
proper JRPGs are gone.
shooters have turned into COD wannabes!
originality has gone out the wazoo!
