Sony Asks: What Vita Peripherals Do You Want To See?

We always like it when a hardware manufacturer asks the consumers about desired accessories.

The PlayStation Vita is a very advanced unit and offers a myriad of features, but every piece of electronics requires a few peripheral items, right? Andriasang points us in the direction of the Japanese PlayStation Vita Community Site, where Sony has presented gamers with an important question: what accessories would you like to see for the new portable? Unsurprisingly, popular responses thus far include a UMD drive, a cradle with HDMI out, a grip adapter with a built-in secondary batter, and a compact full keyboard. The UMD drive will be a very common response; after all, backwards compatibility is always a big deal when a new generation of hardware is introduced. We want to keep enjoying our current libraries! < /p.

So what do you want? What peripherals would make the Vita an irresistible product for you? What additions do you think Sony needs to make?

I wish I was creative. I'll buy the system as long as it as games I really want to play on it. HDMI sounds nice, not sure how playing it would work while it's in a cradle though.

since vita features Bluetooth connectivity, I'd say you can pair a DS3 with it and play as if it were a full blown console…

I dunno man, all I want is something that can put my UMD games onto it in digital form. No I don't want a backpack that spins the UMD itself.

I just do that with my PSP! Get a big memory stick, your stack of UMDs, and some homebrew on the internet.

I'm with World; would like to play my current UMD library on it digitally. Have enough trouble carrying my current library around just to play. I mean, everything else is just great about the system, and anything else would feel like overkill.

That's why I traded all my PSP stuff the day they officially announced NGP back in February. I knew the UMD would go the way of the dodo, so I figured I'd trade everything while it was still worth something at EB.

i agree. just make a program that allows us to transfer our umd's (even the video umd's) so we dont even need the umd at all. although i really liked the umd format. it was really cool when the psp first came out. the vita seems to surpass it in every way tho. damn i wish it was coming out this year.

Video OUT via mini-hdmi
Pro duo compatibility.

UMD transfer or UMD game trade in by presenting UMD game at any retailer and get voucher code to get that game via PSN download for VITA.

A UMD add-on is a nice idea, but could be a bit too cumbersome. I'd still like it though. Aside from, that I can think of nothing, except maybe an antenna for the 3G version of the device for better range. Also, not a peripheral, but I'd greatly appreciate a built-in word processor with on screen keyboard.

A larger grip pad with an additional rechargeable battery inside. Something that's easy to just pop in or out and plug into the charging port for extra battery life would be fantastic!!!

If the battery life alone is nearly twice the amount you get out of a 3DS… SOLD!!

I wonder if it'll have intelligent battery life, like PSone classics or Minis taking little power and being able to get 9-10 hours of playing time from a single charge.

I really miss playing FF VII, VIII and IX, Crash Bandicoot 3, Driver, MGS1, MGS Peacewalker, God of War, Gran Turismo and Crisis Core FF VII on my old PSP in my bedroom. So much easier to game in spare moments than booting up a console.

1 UMD drive which is quite possible, i remember logitech were working on one then scraped it because of cost issues.

2 slim cradle with built in battery and charging capabilities like whats available for most smartphone, and of course a HDMI out links a must!
dunno if will ever get a cradle though, because then how will you access the touch pad.
or can you just turn it off completely?

3 a tool to remove and replace the batteries.
one thing stopping me from buying the vita now is the battery is fixed, which is STUPID!
how is it a portable device if i have to carry a power station with me at all times?
whole point of these things is to use them on long journeys, or even better on the plane.
a 3 hour plane ride is not going to get you very far now is it?
i know why its fixed, to try stop piracy, but thats a bullsh*t excuse!
PSP go has a fixed battery, and that did not stop it getting hacked now did it?
hell the PSP 3000 has a removable battery, yet its harder to hack then the go is!
go you can hack and it stays hacked even if you turn it off, but the 3000 if you turn it off you have to reload the hacks.
hack for the go resides in the chip so once powers off its not erased, but 3000 they cant access the chip so they have to go via the memory which is erased once powers off.

4 though if i could choose one thing and only one thing for the vita then it would be a HD upscaller to play ps2 games on my TV.
now that would make this thing sell like sliced bread!

I think hardware wise this thing is packed full already, can't think of anything I would want added to it… Surely if they could have made it into a phone, I would replace my iPhone with it.
On the software side thou… I would love to have a new version of Remote Play… they can call it Remote Play Plus. You can play any PS3 games on your PSV and any PSV games on your PS3 once they are connected together. Also, they could allow a friend to play a multiplayer game with you using Remote Play and the PSV screen as their own minitor… This a very exciting platform, can't wait to it to fire on all cylinders!

I just want to be able to plug the Vita to my HDTV via HDMI cable so I can view the games on my 65" TV.

After that, I would love to see Gran Turismo Vita edition.

Docking station with HDMI out, charger and Bluetooth to allow a PS3 controller to be used to control games.

Docking station with compact keyboard and charger.

Docking station/charger to allow the Vita to function as a bedside clock/alarm/media player.

The ability to charge through USB while playing…

BlueTooth headset for in-game sound as well as voice chat.

Larger battery…

Impact case to prevent damage while permitting use.

impact case to cover buttons and sticks but leaving touch panel and screen available for use on the move as a PDA.

Software suite to function as a basic PDA and GPS.

Android virtual machine to allow Android apps.

I'll throw this in for the heck of it;

PS2 compatibility…yeah, not gonna happen.

UMD drive…also not gonna happen.

Card/Sim to upgrade wi-fi model to 3G.

Card/sim to upgrade 3G model to function as a phone, or the ability to sync with Sony phones and *and* share the same data account.

Docking station with USB to connect to PC/printers.

Docking station for PS3/PS4 to allow autosync of content on Vita with backup storage on the "mothership's" hard disk.

HDMI dongle for the tv set, with bluetooth transfer to it, so you don't have to care about unplugging it when rocking the thing for whatever reason you need to.

Edit: T800 nuclear battery for feeding that beast, I really can't see how are they powering it, or I'll settle for a solar panel case instead of the normal sexy black casing and a usb eolic generator. XD

I would love if they came with a mini hdmi connection, shame on Sony for not having it in the consumer models.

hdmi and being able to pair a dual shock to it would be really cool, like having a mini console.
