Could “Gesture-Based Controls” Be A Vita Reality?

Touch controls are fresh and new. …gesture controls are fresher and newer.

While the PlayStation Vita will boast the standard button layout, two analog sticks, and even a couple touch pads and Sixaxis control, there's something else it might include: gesture-based controls, executed by simply waving your finger at the screen.

As noted at PlayStation LifeStyle , there's a patent for such a feature in existence for a "Sony Computer Entertainment portable" with a built-in camera. It was only recently published but it was filed back in 2009. Apparently, that camera will track the user's finger, and it'll even track the distance from the screen. Hence, your finger is fully tracked, allowing for full control.

Of course, not all patents become realities so this could just be wishful thinking, but it's worth discussing, yes?
