It's very possible that only the strategy/RPG buffs from the original PlayStation era will recognize the name. But those fans still exist, right?
Japanese gaming publication Famitsu has lifted the veil on what appears to be a remake of Tactics Ogre for the PSP. Tactics Ogre began its life on the PlayStation as a game similar to the likes of Final Fantasy Tactics and Front Mission 3 , and since has made the leap to handhelds as home consoles have moved on into more technologically challenging areas. Now, those who have been feasting on the Disgaea franchise can experience a new Tactics Ogre (not to be mistaken for Ogre Battle on the N64, by the way). Here are some early scans and info . Yes, it seems to be a remake featuring the art director and many designers from the original game, and it seems we can also expect "new mechanics." Now, you can't mess with the gameplay mechanics too much; if you do, it'll cease to be a strat/RPG and you'll lose your niche audience. After all, a remake is for fans of the original, is it not? But if you missed out on the first game and you really are a fan of those Disgaea games, you'll want to give this a shot.
After all, titles like Tactics Ogre were pioneers in the sub-genre. Let's not forget our roots!
Ogre Battle was the only one I ever played, and in fact the only game of that style I ever liked.
Tactics Ogre is a phenomenal tactical rpg. If they're remaking it for play on the PSP I'll definitely pick it up.
I find it hard to believe, but many games are now out or are coming out that I actually want to get for my PSP. Now if only it had a touch screen and a version of Picross.
Loved Tactics Ogre, definitely stoked about this.
Every time I think of tactical rpgs, this is the first game that pops into my mind. This is the only trpg that I actually completed. Much more fun and unique than FF Tactics imo.
I'm so freaking excited about this! I may have to actually buy a psp game now :D.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Well this is just another game on the long list of games I missed out on, so since I'm a big fan of tactical rpgs, I'll be keeping my eye on this. FF tactics is my second favorite game of all time, so I'd love to have another game like it for my psp, heck they could just put it on the psn so I can play it on my ps3 too and I'd be happy.
Oh, By the way Ben. Yasumi Matsuno Worked on Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen for the SNES. Ogre Battle 64 was its sequel. With Tactics Ogre taking place after OB64.
Its all the same series.
Sometimes I battle Ogres on the weekends…
What? This thread doesn't have many posts.
I know, It's sad isn't it?
This is my favorite genre, I will definitely try it out on my PSP.
I love strategy RPGs currently playing Vandal Heats 2,and i will play Tactics Ogre next.
