Comics fans, your day has come.
SCEA has announced that all PSP owners can now select from hundreds of digital comics on the PlayStation Network; included in the gigantic list are the likes of Marvel Entertainment, Disney, IDW Publishing, iVerse Media and more. There are a grand total of 550 comics now available on the Store and more content will continue to be added weekly. You can gain access to this significant collection by using your PSP and a WiFi connection, or you can simply access the Store on your PC with Media Go software. Once done doing the latter, you can transfer your comic treasure over to the PSP with a simple USB cable. Furthermore, thanks to firmware update v6.20, readers will actually feel as if they're browsing through a real print copy of the comic: there's something called an "Autoflow" feature, which lets you "flip from page-to-page, zoom in and move from frame-to-frame on each digital page — similar to the way eyes move across a print page from left to right." As for prices, most comics can be nabbed for only $1.99 although they do range between $0.99 and $2.99, and that should be well worth the cost for most fans. Besides, your superheroes never looked this good on plain ol' paper. Or maybe you're a purist…
When you're on the go, you often need a bit of a leisure reprieve, which is why the PSP exists. Whether it's the new PSP Go or one of the old versions, this handheld has plenty of features and options. For more on the digital comics, visit the PlayStation Blog .
Thats so awsome! I wonder if theyre gonna have the MW2 comic of Ghost.
i have a couple hundred comics. i actually enjoy the reading them and holding them in my had part. i did use the reader on my psp and it was cool but i dont know. maybe if i see something really good. i will go browse the store and see.
pretty big selection for issues, not big enough from publishers. no dc sets it back, especially without the vertigo imprint; 100 Bullets on the go would be a huge plus. no image also means no Invincible and no Walking Dead, my two favorite comics currently being published. hopefully more publishers will jump on, but 2.99 for a digital comic is a bit much. there's very little cost into publishing digitally, people have been doing it with adobe flash for years for free now, so having a digital book cost the same as a printed book is ridiculous. of course, comics prices are getting a bit ridiculous now days with some of marvel and dcs books jumping near 5.00 bucks an issue, and independent publishers already being there. thats part of why i stopped reading comics for a while recently was because of the pricing issues and they're more comfortable to me to read as tpbs and graphic novels.
what's also a shame here is that a good chunk of video game based comics (gears of war, resistance, the upcoming god of war and modern warfare 2 comics, world of warcraft, resident evil and a few others, i think) are all being published through wildstorm, which is owned by dc comics, which means they're not available to the psp. the god of war and resistance comics aren't available to the psp. that's just awkward.
MadPowerBomber, alot of smartphones have great cbr/cbz readers that are very cheap. I got 'ComicZeal' for my iPhone 3G and it has a PC component that 'shrinks' any cbr/cbz into a format that the iPhone display can render perfectly (and you can use the squeeze/zoom options) and you can organize by series (shown in boxes, heh), etc. the app also supports pdf import via ghostscript. i've found i love reading comics on my iPhone as laptop in bed can just be too much. i'm a huge vertigo fan myself so was happy to put issues 35-100 of 100 bullets, 25-90 of Fables, etc, all on my iPhone for easy reading and they don't consume much drive space. no DRM either 😉
only if they put some popular novels on there like Stephen kings IT.
ive been looking everywhere for it and since its so old no one sells it anymore, nor do librarys have it.
i remember reading half of it like 5 years ago than the book fell to pieces. literally.
shame i really was enjoying that and i very rarely enjoy books.
in face Stephen king books and the alex rider series are the only books ive actually enjoyed reading.
everything else bores the crap out of me.
You can buy It on Amazon for between 5 to 10 buck not counting tax. I only know this cuz I had an assignment in my class involving the book.
I liked that Aleister Arcane one… I wonder if they have more. I will just need a bigger memory stick. Also Ben, has there been any news about the reader going to PS3. I wouldn't mind having that on the system as well (even though I don't have enough money to get one yet). The bigger storage device would be very helpful in that sense.
Just an FYI,
There's also "free" section there, with about 16 different comics listed now(and no code insertion needed either).
Never read any of the Civil War stuff. Might buy a saga a month if I like what I read.
I'll start grabbing some comics when they release some DC/Vertigo stuff.
Nevermind, I didn't think they'd have classic Spider-Man comics up already. <3
