Ben-DutkaMany have questioned the launch of the PSP Go, questioning the sales numbers and whether or not it would actually take potential sales away from the older PSP-3000 model.
But as Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Andrew House told GamesIndustry.biz , both of the aforementioned concerns are ill-founded. First, he says packaged media isn't going anywhere "any time soon," and secondly, the PSP Go isn't "cannibalizing" sales of the UMD-equipped PSP-3000. Said House:
"I think we were always fairly clear, as far back as the original announcements, that this wasn't a replacement for the current PSP-3000 offering, and that it sits alongside that and packaged media. It's additive to the business. The early sales numbers that we've seen bear that out – I don't think there's been a huge amount of cannibalisation, and I think those sales have come in and lifted overall PSP sales.
It's clearly demonstrated that there is a consumer out there, and it's validated that proposition in moving more towards a digital download as a preferred means of getting content."
House reiterates something we've heard from developers and analysts ever since the advent of digital media: the industry needs to shift in that direction in order to fully respond to the demand, and "lessons would need to be learned." He also makes it clear that PS3 owners shouldn't worry about such a shift any time soon, primarily due to the "sheer size of the data that's becoming available." As for PSP Go sales, House says that despite some retailers refusing to stock the new unit, he still thinks things are going quite well. It'll be interesting to see the numbers once 2009 is over, and let's not forget about that supposedly confirmed PSP2 …
I am looking forward to further information on the PSP2. I think it will be well worth a purchase. It should be backward compatible, and be an order or two more powerful than the current PSP models. I also expect to see more memory to compete with the iPhone 3GS and iTouch offerings by Apple. I would be surprised if the PSP2 has less than 64GB of internal flash memory.

is the ps2 tech small enough to just make a kind of portable ps 2? or is the ps2 chipset to big for a thing like that?
i am always excited to see new tech. i love electronics and have always been drivin to understand them. i love to take things apart just to see the inside. usually after it has stopped working though.
i love my psp. it is truely a great step in video games.
As I said previously, the PSP processor is already more powerful than a PS2 (333 MHz vs. 300 MHz).
the thing thats really brought the psp to life for me is the ps1 classics.
i mean sadly the psp has been left in the dark when it comes to its own games, it normally gets ignored or the short end of the stick.
basically everything available on psp is available on ps3 in one way, shape or form.
same thing can be said about ps1 classics but for some reason i enjoy playing them on my psp much,much, much more than on my ps3.
i love it how you can assign your own controls and play around with the screen size.
why dont games on the ps3 let you do that?
i miss the old days where games use to let you play your game how you want to, not how the devs want you to.
I think Sony could have saved (or made) a lot more money just by making the Memory Stick Duos cheaper instead of creating pspgo. 16Gb really isn't that much when you're looking at almost 2Gb games. And $40 per game from the PSN? Show some love and pass on the money you're saving by not manufacturing those UMD's. ("Oh, you don't like digital distribution? What if it's $5 cheaper??) Quit sucking up to GameStop and give us a reason NOT to use their stores if it is the way of the future.
For the love God Sony have no control over the ridiculous pricing of Star Wars Battlefront and GTA.
Some games are reasonably priced
If you think those are the only two priced that high, you need to go visit the store. And I don't care if it's Sony or the publisher, someone is saving and making more money when I don't get the physical media. Either way, the price should be cheaper. I'm just stating that they would get a better response to DD if it was priced better than it's counterpart.
I know packaged media will stay but I'm not sure about portable devices. It was likely that I would carry all my gaimz especially Outrun which I wish was a download because it owned. PSP Go eradicates this extra stuff due to being download only which think is awesome.
I believe the PSP Go is the best form of Playstation Portable …..however!! New technology is needed to stop the evils of smudges and 3 hour gaming battery life that honesty should happen!! even larger memory space 120GB anyone?? This then will hopefully make the Playstation Portable 2 but I wouldn't like to see physical media

And the sweetest thing many don't take into account: The fact that you can play ps1 games on it….that in itself is BIG, for me it is anyway
I think that the PSP GO was a good albeit expensive experiment for Sony, Physical media still rules (thankfully) in the eyes of the consumer.
remember, there is no resale dollar value on digital media after you purchase it, it becomes yours as long as the content provider allows you to own it.
