Although Sony has continually denied it, the rumors and speculation continue to assault the Internet, and they're growing in strength and frequency.
According to IGN, "several credible sources" have confirmed that the PSP 2 is indeed on the horizon, and it's going to come complete with multi-touch technology. If the inside info is accurate, handheld fans will receive a widescreen touch interface that's similar to the iPhone, which is a darn cool idea. This comes not long after the supposedly "official" Sony survey that got leaked on PSPFanboy.com; a survey that asked consumers what features they would like to see in a new PSP. Some of the choices on that survey were an integrated hard drive, Bluetooth support, a touch-screen interface, GPS, and wireless networking. Now, if any of this is even close to realistic, this means that Sony is considering a drastic overhaul of their current portable unit. It may or may not come as an appreciated upgrade to handheld fans, depending on whether or not the gamers will embrace a new "gadget-oriented" device. All those extras will certainly entice the tech lovers in all of us, but of course, we're all wondering if this could point towards less of a software focus.
At this point, nobody really knows what might make the PSP 2 a smash success, but if Sony still wants to market it as a handheld games device, they absolutely cannot ignore the software aspect. Remember, they've had trouble drumming up third-party support for the current PSP… So maybe they really would be best advised to go another route.
when you say go another route, are you referring to them develop all of their own software or that they are turning the psp 2 into a media device?
i dont care as long as they add another analog stick so i can actually enjoy games like socom and MGS.
KILLZONE was sick.
maybe it'll be a KZ2 spin off.
like RESISTANCE 2.
sweett

Hopefully they wont do away with buttons completely
i got a survey that was like 90 pages long about new features for the psp and none of the options said another analog stick
i just want two thumbpads. i really dont care what else you do, just give me the extra thumbpad…
I want full DS3-like controls (incl. sixaxis, rumble, and bluetooth), but I'd settle for a second thumbstick.
And I'd be happy with a touchscreen as long as it's not the primary means of control, but I really don't care either way.
After seeing the ds selling with crappy games, maybe Sony have also decided to make crappy touch screen games to stay in the mix,
just make it sexy and sleek, and more comfortable for the hands and im sold…even though i already am
If this is a killer device I might consider getting it, even though I don't do handhelds my laptop just crapped out on me and that means no more NES on airplanes 🙁
If it has b/c with the existing psp library, then I'd definitely consider it. I also agree with others about the right analog stick. I'd prefer it over the touch screen, actually.
what ever come my way.
does it make phone calls too? =P
sounds interesting but knowing sony there going to
take the psp2 to the next level hardware wise..
maybe they will go towards more downloadable games, stuff like PSN games for PS3. more arcadadish, where you can play it in short bursts. And still have UMD for B/C? and if developers want they can still make games in UMD?
What ever they do the traditional controls must remain. The touch screen cool but its just gimmicky 4 gaming.
The main thing Sony needs to focus on is internal memory & software. Memory sticks are just too pricey & hard to keep up with. Also there are only a few great titles. Software is what really pushes a system, RIGHT! God of War:COO along with a few others are the only ones that appealed to me the most.
Memory sticks are dirt cheap (and always getting cheaper) and can be upgraded, unlike internal flash memory.
It needs some internal storage, but should still use memory sticks as the main means of storage.
If PSP2 would have touchscreen capabilities, it should have clickable screen–meaning that the particular button should have sensitive to pressure (similar to PS2 controller), and that the buttons are on a noticeable depth higher compared to the screen and the rest of the surface.
I say give it bluray=p
Not seriously I would like close to PS3 graphics in the way that the PSP is close to PS2.
I wonder if Cell production is cheap enough for that to be a possibility.
Personally, I think Sony should use the same processors as the PSP, with a few tweaks, rather than making another system that's cutting edge.
Also, it would be nice if the screen were 480p, instead of 272p.

Actually i think they should make a new PSP. Get rid of the UMD crap and just put some type of hard drive in it and just make all games for the PSP down loads.
I mean it is gaming on the go right? So if all the games were downloads and stored on your PSP, it would make it much more easier to carry many many games, with out all the UMD's.
Touch screen, blue-tooth, better wifi options, and other stuff are things that should be added too.

It would be a brilliant if I was able to install PSP games on a 60 gig hard drive, then I could play without the UMD which could be convenient.
But Touch screen sounds to gimmicky I prefer the traditional controls like navigating the XMB with buttons not fingers
I'm tired of the argument that the PSP doesn't have games. Can we just kill that argument please like we killed that argument for the PS3!
The PSP has plenty of good games both here and in Japan. What it lacks is all the shovelware crap the DS gets, just like the Wii.
Just give it a 2nd analog stick please!
thats what i was just about to say 😛 you took my post lol
i hope it has a blue ray player 😛
I want more memory, 2nd analog, more music and media capabilities and some more PS2 games that are put onto PSP. like Burnout Revenge on a PSP2 sweeeet
I want to play marvel vs capcom 2 on it =D
As long as the touch screen is just for multimedia and not games I'm happy. I can't see Sony selling a PSP 2 with DS style games because you know the PSP 2 won't come cheap.
well i'll hang out for a little longer, don't really need a psp.
Ben, I got this survey. They didn't mention wireless networking. They asked how much adding a feature for internet (like an anywhere, on-the-go solution) would encourage me to buy a future PSP version. They also addressed GAMES.
BTW, I posted a comment about this a couple of weeks ago lol. I got the email on the 14th. The title being "PSP:We want your opinion".

touchscreen is a good addition, but second analog stick is really needed.
and, can PSP2 have "other os" just like PS3 😀
with full linux drivers, and full hardware access… not limited hardware access like in p3linux.
