Sony has already shot down the rumor that a PSP2 is currently in the works, and that they'd rather focus on garnering more third-party support for the sleek portable.
But that doesn't mean they're sticking with the PSP-3000. According to Eurogamer, Sony has plans to issue yet another handheld update with the PSP-4000 in late 2009 (it's like an annual thing now), and the "true successor," the PSP2, will come at a later date. Citing "publishing sources," developers are supposedly already working on games for said successor, although Sony themselves "won't comment on rumor or speculation." Big surprise there. Anyway, it wouldn't be all that surprising to learn that this information was correct; the concept of yet another redesigned PSP isn't out of the realm of possibility, especially when some users weren't overly fond of the PSP-3000. The PSP-2000 – the upgrade that made the unit lighter and slimmer – really pushed sales through the roof for a while and after launching in late 2007, made 2008 the PSP's best year ever. The PSP-3000 also pushed sales, but perhaps due to what some just call a "weird screen issue," it didn't cause quite as big of a chart spike. What will a PSP-4000 do?
Obviously, with nothing official or concrete, we can't say for a fact that another upgraded PSP will release towards the end of next year, nor can we say the PSP2 is coming after that. It may sound logical and reasonable, but sometimes, neither logic or reason have a place in this industry.
They should add: A decent camera, bluetooth connectivity, Built in HDD and a screen with no issues.
However they wont be able to add a second analogue coz it's not the PSP2.
I don't care, i wont ever probably get a psp.
however, the psp2 seems interesting, possibly i might invest in a psp4000
What issues does the screen have? Pls elaborate!
Q!
"i Am Home"
I used to have a 2000. It was alright tho I found games even on the PS2 where better.
I just wish there was a Xbox portable. Now that would be cool.
They should make an Atari 2600 portable…now that would be cool. Or maybe Colecovision to go, yeahhh…
i hope that xbox portable doesn't burn your hand xD
Haters……..
I really don't need to spend another couple hundred bucks on another system… So please god no!
I'm just curious but why a Xbox portable? What could it do that the PSP can't? Other then maybe play Halo and other Xbox exclusive games, but it would have to be pretty awsomely designed to be able to play FPSers comfortably.
I think it should incorporate time tavel technology.
And then I'll buy it.

Now watch, I'll get a PSP for christmas.. dang it.
we don't need a psp2. psp1 is already better than the ds and its like a portahble ps2. so why do we need a psp2?
Second analog stick.
oh ic. i guess they can add that to a psp-4000 but psp1 is already good with music, movies, and internet browser, other than games.
speechless
I`m sick of all these upgrades Sony keep making for the Psp, although I own a 2000 (slim and lite) I`m thinking of getting the 3000 for xmas and will use my other one to run emulators etc, I`m not sure if I`ll bother now not with the 4000 coming out next year but it depends on what it will have over the 3000.
If its got a built in hdd or a better screen (which has no troubles) then I may be better off waiting for that.

i was going to get the psp 3000 but ill wait for the psp 2
The thing Sony needs to decide what they want the PSP2 to be from the beginning this time. If they want it to be the ultimate consumer electronic device then they need:
A high quality screen
Either an extremely fast SSD (solid state drive) or a large (30-80gig) HDD.
A responsive touch screen (like the iphone)
Skype from day 1
long battery life
support for ebooks and divx
allow the community to develop new applications for the device (look at apples app store)
If they want to make the best portable gaming device that they can then they need to simplify and make sure developers treat it as a portable platform and not a device to port old console games over too.
Its funny I was talkin to a friend about the Game Gear. It seems that systems that are technically superior have a little more of a struggle. Whats up with the sales VS the DS? I guess I grew outta alliance with Nintendo but Sony's machine is better…
I know, right. Its the same with the Wii and PS3. We all know the PS3 can kick its ass in every aspect, but the Wii just sells better.
It's not rocket science. it's ALWAYS about the money. But the fact that the DS actually has games definitely helps.
Have you played Wii drunk? Its a blast haha.
The DS actually has games? You're kidding, right?
I'd like to have whatever your avatar is holding when you bring up the pause menu in HOME.
It'd be a full touch screen, and will compliment the PSP, whereas the PSP is a gaming platform, the thingy-you-hold-in-home would be more of a portable video player/casual platform.
I would buy it…
Sony has re-done the PSP more times than nintendo has re-done the DS.
In the PSP2, I want this:
1:bigger screen with 720p resolution or better
2:HDD
3:Bigger design so I can fit a PS2/PS1 game disc into it for b/c
4:Blu-ray UMD
5:BETTER FLASH SUPPORT
6:Touch screen
7:Application store like what is on the i-phone that allows me to get GPS service or another tool
8:ultra-slim design
not really,
DS> DS lite> DSi
PSP> PSP slim and lite> PSP brite
1. why do u want such a large screen for a portable?
2. i rather have a flash base one, like 16gb +
3. it's a portable, if you want a ps2/1 go get a ps2 with the tv screen -_-
4. i want them to use a memory card like thing for games/movies (or even go download?)
5. agree
6. maybe
7. ps store?
8. how is it possible if u want ultra-slim, yet #1 and #3 you said you want bigger screen and bigger design?!?? contradicting yourself….
if the sucker had a big screen and you wanted it to fit PSX/2 discs, in addition to it being ultra thin, that sucker would be one flat slab of a PSP. It seems like it would be closer to a tablet PC, especially with that touch screen you want.
what if someone steps on it? or your backpack gets tossed around? Thin, slab-like hardware doesn't fare well, durability speaking.
not to mention ergonomics. imagine playing all day on a piece of hardware the size of a standard paper notebook that was super thin. not the happiest of experiences, leastways for any length of time.
@supremekai
There is a big difference between thickness and width. What I meant is that they can make the PSP2 wider and longer (to be big enough to fit a standard sized disc) yet somehow make it thinner. That is not contradicting.
@LightShow
I don't care who anyone is. If you step on a PSP (no matter how thick it is) or any other piece of technology (such as a lap top or a PS3), something WILL BREAK! What would the world be like if everyone asked "What if…?" questions all the time like yours?
Anyone who buys a PSP should just take care of it and none of that stuff will happen. If Sony was worried about stuff like that then they could just put a thin sheet of titanium around the PSP's interior and you wouldn't have to worry about stuff like that happening. Just take care of whatever you buy. Take an LCD-TV for example. They can be so big and slim but do you think people buy them so they can just throw them around or run them over with a car to see how long they last??? NO!
cant compare a portable to a tv. one is stationary, the other is something u carry it everywhere..
if it's big enough to fit a cd, + blu-ray umd, then uhh, it's pretty big. wont be able to put in your pockets, and the psp now is already big as it is… and you want it bigger…
Look. If you can fit a CD in your pocket then it shouldn't be much harder to fit a CD-playing PSP in there as well. If that is impossible then just get a traveling case. PSPs and LCDs are different but they can be compared in terms of "What if it breaks".
i hope PSP2 released soon, and PSP1 got a lot of price cut, and i can buy psp1
whenever the psp2 comes out, here are a few things they will need:
a harddrive, two analog sticks, a built-in microphone, a touchscreen (easier to type and click on stuff, etc), a better and more updated version of the XMB, have the web browser support the latest version of adobe flash player so we can actually stream videos and audio and go to sites that uses it, an integrated online service similar to xbox live (same goes for ps3) because i get sick and tired of logging in on so many different accounts for different games, better graphic engine that can support at least 720p, tons of applications so it can compete with the iphone such as a GPS or whatever, and more importantly, a bigger gaming library.
it would be nice if it could be used as a cell phone also, kind of like skype except you can actually use a service like At&T or verizon or whatever to talk with other people.
if the iphone can sell like crazy with all the apps it has, then i think the psp2 can definitely capitalize on that with an even bigger variety of options.

holy crap, sorry. for some reason my comment was posted too many times.
