Rumor: Sony To Recall PSP-3000?

The PSP-3000 – or PSP Brite – was supposed to be a super hot item for Sony during the impending holiday season, but while sales have been pretty good, new owners are complaining of a “feature” that seems more like a technical issue: clear interlacing on the screen, which some frustrated handheld gamers just call, “the crazy lines syndrome.”

This is supposed to be an improved LCD screen, and the reason why this new portable model adopted the title of “PSP Brite.” But with so many complaints, could it be possible that Sony might recall the unit and replace it with another reworked screen? A few eagle-eyed members over at the European PlayStation forums have noticed something peculiar: all mention of the PSP-3000 has disappeared from the official European PlayStation site. Why? We have no idea, but it’s certainly prompting a lot of conversation in the forums, as some are wondering if Sony could actually recall the new PSP in order to fix the screen issue. Even in searching the EU site, you won’t find much mention of the PSP-3000, and one other little clue (if you’re willing to believe this theory) is in the description of the model itself: where it used to say the PSP-3000 featured an “improved” LCD screen, it now says it boasts an “advanced” LCD screen. This could be nothing, of course – it’s just a single word change in the official explanation, after all – but it certainly adds fuel to the quickly expanding fire.

Perhaps the question that will solve this whole thing is simple: “are those lines intentional or is it really a technical issue?” If it’s the latter, perhaps the preceding theory isn’t so crazy. But if it’s intentional, than the theory holds a lot less water. What do you think?
