If this information is accurate, Japan will get another blockbuster title with "Final Fantasy" in the title before 2008 ends. There's no knowing whether or not this particular game will enjoy a worldwide simultaneous release but we wouldn't hold our collective breaths if we were you. We are talking about Square-Enix, here.
Anyway, according to an announcement made during the PSP Year-End Strategy Conference in Japan (and as found at Forever-Fantasy and the NeoGAF forums), it seems Japanese gamers can expect Dissidia: Final Fantasy to arrive on December 18. This highly anticipated handheld game follows behind the release of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII earlier this year, and should deliver the role-playing/action goods to eager fans. Furthermore, Square-Enix and Sony should be collaborating on a Dissidia PSP bundle featuring the new PSP-3000 model, which will cost 25,890 yen. If you're unfamiliar with this game, be sure to check out our preview ; it's old, but not much has changed info-wise. As you can see, it's mostly an all-out action game with some role-playing elements, so Dissidia should appeal to a wide demographic.
Obviously, we can't confirm any of these release details for North America, although it would be nice to have a game like this here for the holidays. Still, December 18 is cutting it close, and as we said before, it's not likely Dissidia will launch in Japan and the U.S. at the same time. But we'll keep an eye out for any new details.
