The Nintendo products continue to sell like wildfire in both the US and Japan, but so far in 2008, Sony has staged a massive comeback with the PS3 and PSP. In fact, the PS3 has managed to outsell the Xbox 360 several times already (which never happened in 2007) and the PSP is suddenly a very hot item…especially in Japan.
While it topped the non-Nintendo hardware sales list in the US ( official NPD results ), Sony's sleek portable crushed all the competition in Japan, according to the weekly Media Create numbers. (source- PSU) As you can see below, the PSP almost outsold the second- and third-place systems – the Nintendo DS and Wii – by a 2:1 ratio…remember when the DS was outselling the PSP by a 4:1 ratio? Well, those days are long gone, thanks to the likes of God of War: Chains of Olympus and, more importantly for Japan, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII .
PS3 and PS2 sales were slightly down from the previous week, even though both managed to top the Xbox 360. At this point, the GameBoy Advance and Sega Genesis could top the 360 in Japan, though; Microsoft just can't find a way to sell that system over there. But anyway, the story this week is the PSP: the little handheld that could.
I still say this PSP is a great little machine…
I absolutely agree. All the PSP kept saying to itself was "I think I can I think I can…" and well…it did! 😀
lol Its the gaming machine that could!
Rock on Sony! It seems things are finally moving along for them…it's about time =)
