Some franchises should always remain until the end of time, and it helps when you have a publisher who also believes in that philosophy.
Hudson Soft, the studio handling development and publishing duties for the Bomberman franchise, isn't about to put our favorite bomb-toting munchkin on the shelf just yet; quite the opposite, in fact. First off, they've announced a US-only Leaderboard Tournament on Xbox Live: the "Bomberman LIVE New Year's Bash Tournament & Sweepstakes." The first-place prize is a whopping 100,000 Microsoft Points, and registration has already begun. You've got two more weeks to enter – registration closes at 8:59 a.m. PST on January 13 – and after that, it's time to throw down with the best bomb-placers in the world! But it doesn't end there.
The PSP will be getting Bomberman Land this month, a game that features both the classic style and all-new mini-games. Furthermore, Hudson head John Greiner says the company has "lots more planned" for the long-running series in 2008.
"Our goal with Bomberman is to bring the fantastic gameplay to a wider fanbase." said John Greiner, President and CEO of Hudson Entertainment. "We start off the new year with a big tournament in Bomberman LIVE on XBLA, then move into new Bomberman Land releases on the WiiT, DST, PSP®, and mobile. We have lots more planned to bring even more fans into the community in 2008."
As of now, we don't yet know what Hudson has planned, but it's great to see new developments for a beloved and revered video game franchise. Could they be considering a 3D installment for next-gen consoles…? We'll keep you updated.
