It has been a decade since we last heard from Marvel vs. Capcom , which is why a whole lot of die-hard fans finally breathed a sigh of relief when the third installment was just recently announced. Although it isn’t set to launch until the second quarter of next year, you can bet that fighting aficionados the world over are already aching to learn more about this hotly anticipated 2D/3D battler. Unlike Marvel vs. Capcom 2 , which was download-only, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds will be a full game release on Blu-Ray for the PlayStation 3 and DVD for the Xbox 360. We don’t have the full roster of fighters just yet, but as of right now, the developers have already implemented about 30 well-known and recognizable characters, such as Ryu, The Hulk, Iron Man, Wolverine, Chris Redfield, Deadpool, Magneto, Captain America, and Morrigan. But Capcom ain’t done yet and there’s a chance that the final product could reach the unbelievable number of fighters (50) featured in the last MvC2 entry.
Now remember, we’re not talking about a remake for a new generation; they’re rebuilding this game entirely from the ground up using Capcom’s MT Framework tech. Examples of this technology can be found in Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2 , which is scheduled to launch next month. At the same time, they’ve said we can anticipate something similar to the visual presentation of Street Fighter IV ; a style that went over extremely well with both critics and fans alike. We don’t have any gameplay footage or screenshots to go by at the moment, but basically, you should picture SFIV with the combination of vigorous art direction and superhero characters that are true to the comic book fiction from whence they came. As you might expect, this is a collaborative effort between Capcom and Marvel, so everything has to be just right in order to satisfy both parties. And perhaps the timing is right, too; the past decade has seen a superhero movie explosion that benefited Marvel greatly.
As for the gameplay, we should get a game that will play a bit like its predecessor. We’ll receive Hyper Combos but we’re not yet sure if we’ll see teams of three or two on the screen, and how they handle the assist process during combat is still being worked on. The rest of the presentation will boast a fully redone music selection, which may or may not annoy the long-time fans, and a different way of approaching the single-player story mode. Obviously, we won’t see anything role-playing-like, but there will be character-specific endings and apparently, an overall bigger emphasis on story so if you’re playing by yourself, you’ll still feel…I dunno, fulfilled, I guess. Lastly, Marvel says to expect a final boss that fans will really enjoy, so I think it’s safe to assume that we’ll be facing an iconic Marvel character in the final battle. There is a lot to be said for a game that really attempts to make its avid followers happy, and we’ve seen a remarkable resurgence of fighters this generation. Capcom is already partly responsible for that, right?
We’ve even heard something about “in-match events” that will evidently be related to the histories of each participating character. I’m not sure what this means, exactly, but it’ll be interesting to see how such an idea is implemented. You can always expect those character-specific quips and comments but perhaps Capcom will take the next step and provide us with a never-before-seen feature. Anyway, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is bound to appeal greatly to its target demographic but until we see the game in action, we’ll have to reserve judgment. Who wants it to be a perfect blend of SFIV and MvC2?
Amazing. I cannot wait for this….a decade of waiting is KILLING me! Now Gimme Powerstone 3 and I can die a happy man!
I'm already reading rumors and reports that the game will likely only feature 30 playable characters. Kinda lame when compared the MvC2's line up.
I wonder if Capcom will announce a lack of storage space on the DVD and then announce DLC to make up for it. 😉
Regardless, these seem to be the only games Capcom is capable of these days. Tatsunoko vs Capcom is their best game this gen in my opinion. I'm sure this one will be just as fun. I'm sure the visuals will be a cross between Tatsunoko vs Capcoom(which are actually great) and SFIV which i also liked. I just hope they use Megaman X or the old Megaman from 1 and 2 and not the worthless one from Legends that is featured in Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

i agree, megaman from megaman legends was crap. was he even a robot? hes so forgetable i played legends and never looked back. X and Zero would be nice too. not just regular X but one with his ultimate armor. since its on the ps3 and 360, i'm hoping that its not dumb down like it was on tatsunoko vs capcom. I mean it was sort of okay with the classic controller but when you play someone using just the wiimote it was definitely unbalanced.
Not sure if he was a robot but i know he was lame. I stopped Megaman after Legends.
I like Karas and Batsu.
Megaman is my favorite character… but I like MvC better than the 2nd installment.
I think having that many characters really messed with the balance of the games as can be seen with the fact that if I go online right now to play (if I could) I would face someone who picks 3 ppl that can do infinite combos.
Does anybody REALLY want to play as Shumagorath or Servbot THAT badly?
-Arvis
Yeah, that's exactly why they're "shooting" for 30 or so characters (doesn't mean that's the OFFICIAL number though). That's just their target number.
And yes, who really wants to play with Servot and a lot of random Marvel/Capcom characters? I think 30-40 a better number.
Balance to me is always more important than the number of characters.
Servbot was crap but these Vs games have never been about balance, you know that Crow.
True, but the more unbalanced they are, the less fun they are.
They're about the fun, but how much fun can you have when you can spam 100 hit combos with Cable?
Yea i agree. I can't stand it when people online pick IronMan, WarMachine and Bebe Hood over and over again and hide behind their projectiles and use the X3 Super that takes half of your life away even when blocking. Its crap. Then when you quite the match they call you names. lol
I don't know if you've played Tatsunoko vs Capcom yet but it does seemed to be more balanced then the previous Vs games. MvC3 will likely be similar to Tatsunoko.

what? i kick ass when i use servebot, that little guy can dodge a lot of supers just sitting down.
thats why i hate him! hahaha Hes too small.
I'm not exactly the biggest fan of the fighting genre. My purchase of this game depends entirely on the art style. I'm pretty sure the gameplay will be amazing nonetheless. I'm expecting at least 40 characters. Don't go make a game with 50 characters and then boast a measly 25-30 characters for the next title. That's just plain unacceptable.
Now if only they would make a Sony VS Capcom, cause that would be all kinds of epic
Why not make a Sony VS Microsoft game? It should feature key people in the v. game/console industry (Aaron Greenberg, Kevin Butler, Kaz Hirai, Hideo Kojima, the Head of MS's Xbox division or w/e, etc) fighting each other in 2-vs-2 tag team matches. People from Sony would use a PS3 to fight (BLU RAY! *blue laser beam* Move PUNCH! *1:1 sub-mm accuracy punch*), people from MS would use the Xbox to fight (RROD! *red laser beam*, OVER HEAT! *heat wave attack*, BIG BAGS OF MONEY! *heavy attack*). People from neither company could do their own signature techniques, like Yoichi Wada (Westernized! *throws copy of FFXIII at enemy, leaving them dazed and confused as to why FFXIII left its roots*), and Hideo Kojima (CQC! *self-explanatory*). Of course Hideo Kojima would be a cheap character, because CQC beats all.
Wolf
That list is too unfair.
Kevin butler would weight out everyone on the tiers
lol@Wolf
I cannot wait for this. Luckily Super Street Fighter 4 will hold me over very nicely.
mmmmm interesting shame we have to wait till next year 🙁
now all i need is another mortal kombat shaolin monks game and im set!
If Mega Man is in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, it's a buy.
i have waited ten years for this and of course im going to buy it.
but at the same time im not getting my hope up, one side of me says This will be the greatest crossover since sliced bread. the other part of me says, capcom is selling out another one of its series and milking out money again -.-
I really hope thats not the case. because the way capcom has been acting this generation. im not getting my hopes up.
Please, give me Dante!
Any ideas on who the final boss would be? Onslaught? Apocalypse? Galactus? Dark Phoenix would definitely be my choice!!!
It better be Carnage!
I just want Gambit, Jubilee, and Carnage from the Marvel side
M. Bison, Chun-Li (she'll be there), and Rose from Capcom's side
As long as they have most of the Street Fighter roster from the other two games, Megaman, Jill and Jin I'm good.
That's actually one of the reasons I prefer the X-Men VS Capcom 'series'
It only had one game, but dammit it should've been a series…
Why? Because you get the best of the best from each side. From Capcom you get Street Fighter and from Marvel you get the X-Men!
Everything from Cable to Jean Grey, to Wolverine and Cyclops
And with SF you can get Akuma, Ryu, Ken, Guile, Charlie, etc.
I loved those early Vs games. I wish some of them would show up on PSN.
Rival Schools NEEDS to pop up on the PSN store already! >:|
Yeah! And you know, Kyosuke Kusanagi should really be considered for MvC3. That guy is friggin slick…
-Arvis
Yes it does! i still have my PS1 copy. Would like to have Rival Schools on my PSP.
If Zero doesn't make the cut, then it's gonna be a tough sell for me.
He should. He's one of the best characters in Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
Yeah Zero's air combos plus special attacks are amazing…
Wish Capcom made another Megaman X :'(
