I've played Need for Speed: SHIFT in the past before, and I have praised the game numerous times for its nearly perfect mixture of realism, while at the same time maintaining the excitement the series has always been known for. Because the game is being developed by Slightly Mad Studios, the folks who brought the PC world the incredibly realistic GTR series, we knew to expect the best Need for Speed game ever made. Now, like I said, I've played the game before, so what new bits of info can I offer you that we haven't covered before? Oh, there are plenty.
For starters, SHIFT supports Logitech wheels and has full support of the G25's clutch and shifter setup. Within the game are a plethora of tuning options for the wheel, so that you can customize its feel and feedback to your liking. The thing is, though, we didn't play this game with a Logitech G25. But rather another Logitech wheel, which has yet to be officially announced. But if you're an enthusiast, you've probably seen some of the leaked images of it. We wish we could go into details on some of the changes to this wheel, but we have to wait a bit.
One question I've had with the game from the beginning is "do I start out with stock cars"? And in the past the question couldn't be answered, because even EA BlackBox and Slightly Mad weren't sure. Well, there is an answer, and it is a "yes". So if you were worried about being handed pre-tuned cars that are not to your aesthetic liking, worry not, because you will now be able to start off with a clean slate of your own and keep your car looking stock, if you wish, and just work on the performance. Or keep the visual upgrades subtle and tasteful if you want to mod the look.
Now, one of the best features we heard about the game was its online matchmaking system. During offline races the game will track and measure your style of racing using two characteristic traits: aggression and precision. Based on your driving style, the game will matchmake and drop you into a group of racers most closely related to your driving. Of course, if you don't wish to partake in the matchmaking, you don't have to, it's purely optional.
There are also some really nice gameplay features to talk about. First, if you do not finish within the top three in your races, the game will still reward you and allow you to progress. This is done so that you don't have to constantly stop and restart if you've made a mistake. Second, you can customize the physics to your liking, ranging from assisted, to arcade like, to a blend of arcade and simulation, all the way up to the brute force of the full game engine performing its proper simulation capabilities.
Our final and miscellaneous tidbits include the following: the PC version of the game supports the D-Box Motion Chair, and there's a slight possibility that this support will arrive for the PlayStation 3 in the form of a patch. There is a 350Z, and that makes me happy, for obvious reasons. And finally, September 15th is the day you mark your calendars for.
I'm goin to have to keep my eye on this game.
***Hey Arnold!!!***
This gen is the first time I've ever considered buying a wheel setup. I was looking into that G25 and the 911 that they had set up for forza 3. I need the feel of a clutch and since my wife wrecked my Mustang (standard) I have to drive my wife's Jeep Patriot (auto) instead.
So, question 1 is it worth it if you have some spare cash to pony up for a wheel and if so (question 2) which would be the best since I plan to use with GT5! Orr…Should I wait for the one you saw and can't talk about. This is really important to me so Thanks for any answers!!!

I was just thinking the same thing.
LOL @ Hey Arnold.
I'm not Arnold but the G25's been out for some time so you wouldn't know if they're going to make a new updated wheel. But the wheel is very good.
It's easily one of the best, so I've heard.
Maybe Polyphony & Logitech might make a better Driving Force GT down the line.
Is it worth it if you have the money? Yes.
And my suggestion is to wait until the later end of this year before you make any purchases.
I took an interest upon seeing the original trailer but having seen the gameplay trailers at a different website I an no longer as keen. I need to play a demo before I get my cash out.
Already have it pre-ordered for a very, very nice price. Looking forward to the official announcement of the G27 setup. Can't wait.
I have searched across the net and I have found nothing but positive impressions on this game. Although, I was very surprised to hear them declare that their game will surpass Team 10's Forza who ironically mentioned that it is the definitive racer this generation.
But, I WILL get this game and it would be a great fix before GT5 comes around. I remember enjoying NFS in the PSX (yes, that long ago), I really hope this will bring me to like the series again.
I may go for this; however I have had an eye on Dirt 2. I will consider the reviews of Shift seriously.
Ben, any words on the crash physics… are the accidents (and damage model) realistic?
Q!
"i am home"
Man all the guys (past NFS lovers) and Forza fans (maybe some GT fans) keep talking down about this game.
They keep saying NFS should be on the streets where it belongs, getting chased by cops.
But the game isn't Need for Streets it's Need for Speed.
LOL
P.S. I hope this is good so those people get proven wrong ^_^
It looks awesome and it sounds awesome.
When the Need for Speed series hit the "streets" such as NFS:Underground it changed what NFS was about and made it feel more like a Fast and Furious take-off.
I enjoyed Pro-Street but the framerate and the drag racing features needed alot of improvement. Let's hope Shift corrects alot of problems Pro-Street had…..sounds like fun till GT5 gets here though.
I'm a proud owner of the g25 and its a sweet product.
Grid on the ps3 supports the g25 but gt5 prolog dos not
right now.
GT5: Prologue doesn't officially support it but it works with the game. Check the forums and you'll see that one of our community has posted his results and settings for using the G25 with the game.
Looks like a buy for me, been wanting a good racer, idk when GT 5 is gonna show so SHIRT is a panacea for my current racing needs…
BIG_E- GT5P doesn't officially support G25 but all the functions including clutch work without a hitch. The FFB isn't as uniform as the one you'd get from DFGT but hopefully by the time GT5 arrives, that'll be ironed out. As to SHIFT- I haven't been this excited about a racing title.
No word can explain my desire for a good racing game for my PS3. Gran Turismo 5 and Shift will be day one buy for me!!!
Looking forward to racing you online 😉
I really don`t have any racing friends on PSN, if someone is interested, I`M HERE:P
Better be a Zonda !!!
Sounds like one more great game for this year.
Ok now I know this game will have the Nissan GT-R.
So now it's got to be good.
Getting it later for sure, but DiRT 2 is my top-priority this year when it comes to racers. Well, if GT5 releases here in Europe in 09, I'm also getting it.
It says that the g25 is fully supported. I have the Driving Force GT, and i wondered if you knew if the game supported the 900 degrees steering as it does in GT 5 prologue?
