Ratchet and Clank has proven time and time again to be a great success for Sony. The PlayStation 3's iterations were both groundbreaking in their own respective ways: the first Future game was stunning to witness with visuals that we've been hoping to see in videogames since Pixar's Toy Story was brought to life. And the sequel was one of the first big-franchise downloadable games that was no different than a full-fledged copy you'd buy at a store. What made the last two Ratchet games so great was also their stories, as both Tools of Destruction and Quest For Booty were direct sequels, ultimately leading us to this finale.

If you've yet to play either of the last two Ratchet games, then I suggest you skip this paragraph as it contains spoilers. Ready? As you recall, at the end of Tools of Destruction, Clank was kidnapped by the Zoni, which drove the story of Quest For Booty. But at the end of Quest, Ratchet comes to find out that he won't be able to easily rescue Clank, he's been taken to a whole other galaxy and that Dr. Nefarious was the one behind it all.

You'll take control of both Ratchet and Clank, as one character's missions will have you running to save your partner, and the other character will be trying to escape from his captivity, while simultaneously trying to save the universe from Nefarious and his new schemes. Sony states one of the key plot devices within the game will be to answer the question of whether or not Ratchet and Clank were destined to be bound together forever as friends, or if their destinies are to eventually part.

One thing you should make no mistake about is that while this is the finale of the three-part arc (a.k.a a series finale), this is not the last game for the Ratchet and Clank franchise. Whatever comes after this will feature an all new storyline. That said, there's a lot to be excited about with A Crack in Time as it'll utilize Insomniac's fourth-generation PS3 game engine, so you'll be treated to an even prettier game world.

In addition to being prettier, the new Ratchet game will boast even larger non-linear levels that Sony states will have multiple hidden areas to explore. Best of all, to help you explore all of this new terrain will be new gadgets, like Hoverboots. And when you need a lift that goes beyond the capabilities of the Hoverboots, Ratchet's spaceship will fly you through the universe and get you where you need to go. Traveling through space will give you the opportunity to engage in space battles, in addition to some extra exploration of nearby star systems where hidden items and collectible lie.

Insomniac is also incorporating new gameplay mechanics, such as "Time" abilities that'll allow the gamer to manipulate the game and allow you to see what Sony calls your "past selves". Exactly how this will work out remains to be seen, but it sure sounds fun. Of course, as you'd expect, there are even more weapons to toy around with, and by toy around we also mean modify.

As if there was any doubt about it, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time is coming along just fine in development, as Insomniac continues to put all of their finest work into the series' third next-gen entry. Look for it to arrive this Fall of 2009.

um… maybe you didn't play the same game as I did. For $14.99, it was amazing. It might have been short, but it was well balanced and a ton of fun. Did anyone else swim around in the lake (can't remember the planet name) and find a statue of Captain Qwark? There were a couple funny things hidden at the bottom of the lake.

And when you fight off the zombie priates of of hoolefar island then you have your weapons and go into that cave under water (it's to the left of the dock) and you see that grave thing and get a whole bunch of weapon upgrades.

Insomniac is one of the best developers out there. They are just absolutely amazing. I have a feeling that 10 years from now i'll be showing my children old Ratchet and Clank games and telling them that this is what gaming is all about. R&C is one of the few good platformers left, and its easily the best.

Unfortunately, i refuse to rent games online (face it, you dont actually "buy" anything), so i will be missing out on this, much like Q4B. Im really hoping Insomniac releases ACIT and Q4B on a blu-ray. I'd pay $40 for a copy the first day.

ACIT was already confirmed to be a Blu-ray released so I don't know what you are talking about there. As for Q4B I actually didn't know about it till recently so I probably check it out, but I don't know what you mean when you say rent when it's being stored in the harddrive.

What im "talking about there" is Insomniac selling both Q4B and ACIT on one disc as a bundle. The disc has room so why not offer it as a bundle for those who have yet to play Q4B?

Ok, so lets say you download Q4B and you "own" it. If you own it, sell it to me. I'll pay you full retail for it if you can sell me that digital copy you own. Also, if you read the terms and agreements, there is always a segment that says your rights to the game can be revoked at any time for whatever reason Sony or Insomniac feel like. I'd like to see them revoke my rights to a blu-ray i own. When you buy a game from the store you arent buying the actual data, you are buying the rights to use that data at Sony's discretion. You essentially rented the game from sony for an undetermined amount of time.

Really!! I have never herd that before. They can revoke the games you buy that's pretty crazy.I think you are one of the very few who actually read the terms of agreements,I didn't think that all of that junk that you are supposed to read in the terms was important.O:

while J&D may be my favorite series, R&C is a close number 2

It may soon become numero uno, in light of J&D's sparse treatment in the current gen. A PSP game? Seriously?

I think they are gonna pull a quick one on us, I still believe at the end of the PS2 and PSP versions they will have a teaser trailer for the PS3 version set for a 2010 Release date. They know people want it, but they have there hands full with Uncharted 2 right now (Which I am buying INFAMOUS now for the Beta)

Ya I think that was a great idea from Sony. I'm just buying infamous because of uncharted (and it looks pretty cool too)

As much as I want Uncharted 2 (Top of my list), I cannot understand the reasoning behind buying Infamous simply to play the Uncharted 2 Beta. That reminds me of when people bought Zone of the Enders just so they could play the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo.

Agreed, J&D deserves much better then a psp game, it needs the next gen support too! One of my all time fav. ps2 games was jak 2. But I will not shy away from another great ratchet and clank game.

This game will have (or it better have) Super Omega Charge Boots given to you when you do something awesome.

So that you can fly around like that guy in the trailer.

That would be way too awesome!

=D

I just gotta play Quest for Booty first. I've never cared to buy it, but since I need to know the story, might as well get it. It's pretty cheap I believe.

R&C kick a$$ but Quest For Booty sucked a$$ for the price. A 15min game should not cost 15 bucks. I would of paid 5 bucks for it thou. Cant wait for the new R&C.
