PSXE Poll Update: Fall Lineup Impacts Human Revolution

In some ways, Deus Ex: Human Revolution arrived at a decent time.

Firstly, it turned out to be a fantastic game. Secondly, by releasing towards the end of August, it misses the fall rush and besides, the summer was slow. People should want something great to play.

But while many said they would be purchasing Deus Ex the day it came out, even more said they were just saving up for the onslaught of AAA titles scheduled to arrive between September and November. However, that being said, we're willing to bet that many people voted on the poll before the reviews for Human Revolution dropped…when that happened, we know some of you changed your tune. 😉

This week, we highlight Dead Island , the intriguing first-person survival adventure with various gameplay elements. We'll be talking to the developers this afternoon to learn more about the production but in the meantime, what's your take on it? Already sold? Not your thing? Let us know.

Open world + coop = my immediate attention. I do need to read some convincing reviews though, but if the meta dial ends up at 80+ I'm *so* there.

But I gotta say: Deus Ex deserves to be bought.
Simple as that.

I've been waiting on Dead Island for a few months now. It'll be a different type of zombie aspect with meaning it appears.

I have to save up for the GOW Origins, Ico/Shadow combo, Batman AC, and Uncharted 3…
Not enough cash for too many great games . I will be buying Deus Ex new, but it just does not beat out those other titles for me. Dead Island looks great as well, but again, too many great games in a three month span to look at it as a release day purchase.
Now to figure out where to pre-order batman AC and Uncharted from. Too many good options for the pre-order bonuses…

Zombies + fps + some rpg element = must buy for me .

I really like that the focus of the game is melee combat . I really hope , like they said , that guns and ammo will be rare .

As for deus ex , it s great if you love stealth game but if you re expecting to go in gun blazing when you buy it , you ll be disappointed for sure .

Can t wait for the next one , just hoping that what you do will have a real impact on what happen in the long run not just impact the end of the mission .

There's more stuff in there than you think I think. I just did two barely different actions and two pretty different things happened with Malik. (I died after the first action, then did the other kinda not intending to do anything different) Though its true the end result was the same. Since Deus is "do it yourself" but not "write your own story" I think it's still pretty well done because they have to stick to a story to an extent.

I like to get games when they are a year or two old simply because I'm behind on games and they're cheaper anyway so I won't be getting either games regardless of review scores.
Only games I've bought straight away have been uncharted and Littlebigplanet.
Totally worth it

Dead Island has more of my attention to Deux Ex cause of the way that Dead Island will have the outdoor thrills on the gamer.

Deus Ex is a great game. I think a lot of people would enjoy it if they try it.

Ben, you are correct. I have not played Deus X, but I am sure it's a great game, but you know … I love me some Resistance lol. I played Resistance 1 and 2 a lot and I am somewhat well known for sniping heads off in online matches so that will delay me from buying Deus X. Then… Dark Souls comes in the picture and that will definitely take over my life. Let's just say my character in Demon's Souls is level 250 and I stopped playing because the amount of people I could play with greatly diminished U_U

Dead Island is on my watch list with another 9 games to be released this fall. I will go only for maybe 3 of those 10 after the reviews are in. No game under an average of 8.5 will get a spot on my buy list (except for Ratchet and Clank:All-4-One which is already a must buy for my kid).

I'm very happy with my D1P of Deus Ex… As Ben stated above, it's a fantastic game.

I'm very interested in Dead Island, but I'm waiting for reviews to persuade me that it's worth a purchase.

I really wanted deus ex but I didn't think I could get it. I ended up buying it on Friday a day after i played it at a friend's house. It was too good to pass up. As for Dead Island, it looks good but I just got deus ex so maybe some other time.

BTW, for anyone having trouble infiltrating the police station in Deus Ex, talk to the guy at the front desk. Play your cards right, and you can convince him to let you have access to the station. No one will bother you (unless they catch you hacking)

Those are some violent cops lemme tell ya.

That's very true, haha. I have so many bodies hidden in the vents from the situations where they caught me hacking, although outsmarting them is hilariously easy. I built a metal gear solid-esque box fort around myself and was able to hack all the doors I wanted, even while they were looking right at me lol

Well, people made fun of Snake for his box hiding fetish, but I always knew he was onto something, loool

It's a great game but sometimes it gets extreme. I threw a cardboard box at a crackhead for fun, I guess he and his team decided inside of a microsecond that decency does not abide in me and commenced to shooting. I defended myself, and well the whole thing ended with the cops gunning me down like a dog.

In any case, there are entirely too many cardboard boxes in that game 🙂

Yep, you couldn't be anymore right with that. The fact that under very, very few of them, you can find stuff combined with my ocd/old-school rpg completionist ways has me spending stupid long amount of time looking under every single box I find. It's torturous. really. I bet the devs put that many on purpose just to mess with us <.<

I know I've been a proponent of Dead Island, but buying Deus Ex kinda set me back so we'll see. I sold Vanquish and maybe i can sell something else to get some money together. In the mean time I'll read the review here to see how excited I should get. The fact that Ben has an interview with Deep Silver bodes well for the score.

You really should get Deus Ex people. It represents something great.

I'll copy and paste my 1st thoughts on it from another thread…..

My FIRST impressions of Human Revolution are that of pure awe.

You may have read that i was hugely sceptical of it due to development team change and action packed trailers. I am a huge fan of the masterpiece original, i mean, what an effing game! It took another 8 years for gaming to catch up to it!

Human Revolution has me eating my doubts. It has that retro golden age PC gaming feel about it and my god is it refreshing to have an un-dumbed down game on the market??
It feels Deus Ex through and through. It's one of them ultra rare moments a new development team understood the franchise and did it justice.

Purchasing the bigger jump aug and then jumping up to high places around the city and finding hidden items and doors…when was the last game to include secrets like that of the days of old?

It does feel like a tribute to the original at times, especially when you hear random pedestrians whistling the theme from the original Deus Ex lol. The original innovated beyond belief and in my estimation is the greatest western game ever made. Human Revolution seems like it put all it's effort into trying to live up to it and had no time to add new innovative things…but then again, it's really hard to innovate today and what's more, ironically, Human Revolution brings back a refreshing breeze of old school perfectly into a modern game and will probably remind devs and players what real gaming was all about….therefore innovating. The new generation of gamers will be introduced to un- dumbed down gaming.

The story is fantastic! Incredibly complex ala the original and deals with real world conspiracies. Hearing about the new world order and seeing the science V nature/Man V God debate rage against human dilemma in this game is one hell of a feeling.
That haunting piece of music that plays as you purchase Praxis Kits at LIMB is just….wow….and only serves that human dilemma more.

Minor flaws, AI….that's it.

Oh and the music is unbelievable. makes it 10 times more immersive!

Im unsure whether it's better than the original so far, certainly won't have the impact, but i'll see.

I was hoping it would provide me with experiencing that original Deus Ex feeling one more time…and it is. With so many franchises being dumbed down today, it's just utterly refreshing to see Human Revolution.

As for Dead Island, i may, considering the co-op is good.

I'm going to purchase Deus Ex eventually, but not until I've saved enough for the rest that I intended to buy. I was on the fence about this game but solid reviews and good player feedback convinced me to purchase it anyway.

As for Dead Island, it's just not my cup of team. Other than the well-crafted debut trailer, it's just not the type of game I enjoy playing. I do hope it becomes a success though if it's good.

deus ex is the perfect example of a great idea poorly executed.
its a good game, but there are parts that feel they could of been taken a whole lot further.
it actually has allot in common with LA Noire.
great fun game, but there are certain things that could of and should of been taken a whole lot further to make the whole game better.
the inconsistency of the games whats killing it for me though.
one minute im playing a really well designed level with heaps of cover to sit behind and avoid detection. heaps of ducts to take me around my enemies instead of having to waltz right past them and somehow hope they dont see me.
the next im playing a really poorly designed level that is forcing me to do the complete opposite.
barely any cover to hide from the enemies, no ducts to take me around the enemies, im forced to go directly past them and hope they dont see me.
it feels like im playing a totally different game at times!
the whole detroit hub is like the former, really well designed and easy to get around.
everything after that tough, its almost as if the developers sat back and went oh sh*t it took us this long just to do this 1 hub, were going to have to change things otherwise were going to miss our date and go well over budget.
disappointing, it starts off so strong but drops off so quickly!
yet again a developer bites off way more then they can chew.

as for dead island, i REALLY want it to be good but im not holding my breath.
techland are not exactly known for AAA games, and the lack of interest from the media, and the developers themselves is really concerning.
normally when developers promote there games they show things off, talk about specific things.
but techland, well when asked how they thought the game turned out they replied i think it turned out great.
yea, a real in depth confidence inspiring comment that was!
please prove me wrong, but i fear ill be here in a weeks time saying i told you so.
