Insomniac is one hell of a developer. Can you imagine if another team picked up the Resistance franchise…?
First, the studio's creative director, Marcus Smith, said another developer could potentially handle the creation of Resistance 4 . But in speaking to VideoGamer , Insomniac writer Jon Paquette said he'd rather keep Resistance in-house although ultimately, it'd be Sony's decision. Said Paquette:
"There are a lot of great developers out there. There are a lot of great shooter developers, and I'm sure there are a lot of people who would love to get their hands on Resistance because it's such a fun universe to create. I think Resistance is a fun place to play, with all the weapons, all the Chimera – it's a really great universe for games, because there are so many options."
Sony owns the IP so if they want to give Resistance to someone else, they could. But if they do, Paquette added that he'd like "have a lot of meetings" with the chosen developer, because as a writer, he knows a lot of the back story that shouldn't go ignored.
Resistance 3 will be on store shelves in less than two weeks, and it'll be interesting to see the critical and gamer reception. But if the series ended up going elsewhere, what studio would you like to see at the helm? Resistance has such a singular flair when it comes to shooters; we're worried that only Insomniac can maintain that style…
Insomiac is really awesome.
If someone else takes this series I hope this someone could be Guerrilla 😉
Yeah that would be my first choice. They have proven that they can make a fps. Can you imagine Resistance on their engine? Wow.
Yea I've been playing the multiplayer beta and it's okay, but I think killzone 3's multiplayer is better.
I'm sure the campaign will be epic as usual, just wish they had a better multiplayer aspect.
I really hope it's not Guerilla, they have eough will killzone.
I would give it over to Bungie, they know how to make a really good FPS.
Um..yeah, there's no way Sony would give one of their IP's to work on to a developer working under Activision.
I know, but I can dream, right?
GUERILLA GAMES?!!? No, they got KZ2 right but screwed up KZ3. Not sure I would want them handling something like Resistance until KZ4 proves they can make a great game still. Just my opinion
R2s MP kicks the sh*t out of R3s!
actually no, R2s MP kicks the sh*t out of all the MP games exclusive to ps3!
had a freaking ball with that!
may of been so buggy it made fallout look like uncharted, but god dam was it fun!
Naughty Dog, imagine Resistance with Uncharted 3 graphics and as a TPS.
I would be fine with either Guerrilla or Naughty Dog, however I prefer FPS over TPS. I hope Sony just has Insomniac stay as the developer.

Yea I'd prefer it stays with insomniac, they know how to put together awesome campaigns. Resistance is one of the few games I actually play all the way through…

Resistance as a TPS???, that could be good, but I think is much better as a FPS
Retribution was TPS and it was okay, but obviously they did that because PSP can't do FPS.
Uncharted graphics would mean uncharted map sizes too, and that would be catastrophic for a game like resistance…

Imo, they should of just concluded the story of Resistance with RE 3. I'd rather see a game franchise ended by the original developer, instead of being continued by a different developer who could potentially screw it up.

But the Resistance story really doesn't need to end. There are so many different stories to tell and places to go. In a game with such epic scope, there is no one predetermined plot course, the portable games have proven that. Hell, even Resistance 3 proves that.
I'm down with a new dev taking the reigns. This begs the question if the new dev would be using Insomniac's custom PS3 IDE for it.
Anyway, I did really like that new story trailer for R3. They definitely learned some things in cinematography. I also like that it has it's eerie artistically inspired visual presentation. It appears more true to the first game like that.
How about give R&C to someone else and Resistance stays with Insomniac.
No. I value R&C more than Resistance.
FPS games come in ever flavor and variety these days. Good platformer/shooters are something of a rarity, and I'd say R&C: CiT is the best there is.
NEVER!
No way!!!
I'm surprised Sony didn't purchase Insomniac when they had the chance a few years ago. I see their role as as developing exclusives for Sony products over with.
Maybe Sony never imagined the market would be so heavily shared with MS today. The thick 4year supported black box didn't put up much of a fight with it's meager 25million units compared to the PS2's, what?, 150million plus.
Things aren't nearly as lopsided these days and many third party devs have no choice but to support 360.
They tried to, but Insomniac didn't want to be bought out.
Lawless is right. Insomniac wants independence. If Sony acquired them against their will, they'd own an empty studio (see Rare post-acquisition).
What Sony should do is… Just for the sake of acquiring them… go like "oh yeah well just give this to another dev…" insomniac will be like "ok, but we can have our input right?" Kevin Butler goes "are you crazy? input's only for first party devs, which as of right now you're not" insomniac goes "ok fine, where do we sign"
I'd feel kinda "eh" if it wasn't insom developing R4. If it were to be passed on then it'd def hae to go to naughty dog or…i'd say guerilla but the style of shootr doesnt scream guerrilla. I wouldn't have a prob w sucker punch…but then agan…suckerpunch, insom, guerrila, and naught dog all worked together at one point even if it was dlc https://casting.thetester.com/playaplus
it doesn't scream Naughty Dog, are we saying Naughty Dog just because of their graphics? or because they can actually do Resistance the justice it deserves?
Slight grammatical error in the article: Fourth paragraph, the word "to" should be inserted before the quote 🙂
I'd like to see Insomniac continuing the series. I mean, they've kept going with R&C, so why should things be any different just because they've moved on to Overstrike? They've said they enjoy their relationship with Sony and would like to continue to do exclusive games. And they're seemingly getter better with their designs and stories, so I'd like to see them see how far they can take Resistance.
Also, I don't know what developer they could put onto it. Guerilla, I think, would be a poor choice. Nihilistic… Nuh-uh. I'd like to see a new dev get their hands on it if someone must. As long as Insomniac stays on as Creative Consultant.
Do I sense a slight backing away from Resistance and the PS3 on the part of Insomniac?
I hope not, but, whatever guys. You have a good thing going with Sony and their customers, don't ruin a good thing..
Yep, it seems to me like they are saying good bye to Resistance. Hopefully is just me and they will keep this thing going 🙂
I sense that too! Very much so.
I never really got into Resistance, so cant really say to cont the game or not. I just hope insomniac gives it to some one who's part of the great developers for Sony. I say GG but they have kz. Sucker Punch would be my best guess, even though they never did a fps, it be awesome to see what they could do with Resistance. I just would hate to see Resistance get handed down like how spyro and Crash Bandicot was and become nothing but spins off and ridicules games.
I like Resistance but FPS games shoudn't just keep pounding out sequels. After Overstrike fails I hope they get a new IP exclusive to Sony.
Wow, you're not biased against Overstrike at all, are you?
Resistance should be developed by Insomniac. Period. If Insomniac still wants to do it and Sony gives it to somebody else I will be very dissappointed.
All the other developers mentioned (including Insomniac) are making better games than Resistance (according to review scores if not universal consensus). Why would you want them to stop making Uncharted 4 or inFAMOUS 3 in order to make Resistance 4?
I say let it die *if* Insomniac don't want to make it, but definitely don't put another great IP on hold.
p.s. I'm not saying Resistance is not good, just that the other games are better.

Good thinking.
Hell no leave it with insomniac
Resistace 4,5&6 on PS4 !!!!!!!!
Ouch… I wasn't expecting this news. I think the franchise would be best in Insomniac's hands. Just my opinion.
Not surprising to me since Insomniac has been developing a multiplatform game for over a year now.
i knew this was going to happen!
ever since they announced they were going MP i knew they were going to forsake there beloved series and start new IPs!
i swear to god if they leave the best series ever made with a crappy kiddy co-op game ted price is going to wish he woke up with a horses head in his bed!
and they assured they were not abandoning sony and there beloved series.
your not?
so then why say we might send the series off to another developer?
that sounds like abandoning your beloved series to me!!!!!!!
sigh, just the billionth time a developers lied to their fans!
We want new IPs! Who want "Resistance 17" 20 years from now?
resistance can go to hell for all i care!
its R&C im worried about.
no one makes a game even remotely like R&C, and thats why its so popular!
best series insomniacs made!
Blank line going off the wall with critcism again. I can't say this is surprising.
and your just insulting me instead of giving a reason to disagree and creating a decent discussion.
cant say that is surprising!
I'm curious as to what even brought this subject up. I thought they had a good relationship with Sony?
My guess? They want to go multiplat with all their games, making exclusives is just not worth it compared to the loss of market potential, and Sony will not let them do so with Resistance.
