GameStop, Virgin Gaming Announce Madden 12 Tournament

Think you've got what it takes to become a true guru of the gridiron?

Today, GameStop and Virgin Gaming have announced the "Battle of the Gridiron" Madden NFL 12 tournament that features mucho dinero in prizes. The contest begins on September 11 and runs through October 16; participants have to pre-order the game from GameStop and register for entry between August 30 and September 18. Remember, this year's installment hits store shelves on August 30.

Earlier this year, the mega game retailer and Virgin Gaming formed a partnership to power online video game tournaments for featured console titles. If you're up for the challenge, here's what you'll be playing for:

Grand prize: Four winners will receive a VIP trip to LA and the $5,000 entry into the EA SPORTS Madden NFL 12 Challenge Series live final for the chance to win up to $1 million in prizing.

Runner-up prizes: Four runners-up will get a VIP trip and package to LA to watch the finals of the EA SPORTS Madden NFL 12 Challenge Series.

Additional prizes include: EA SPORTS Madden NFL 12 Challenge Series tournament entry fees and Virgin Gaming credit to be used towards future tournaments.

Madden NFL 12 seeks to "transform on-field action and core gameplay modes," by amping up the innovation in six separate areas: Playbooks and Gameplay, Presentation, Franchise and Superstar modes, Dynamic Player Performance, Madden Ultimate Team, and Online Communities. If you're a big pigskin fan and you plan to give this tournament a shot, good luck!

Just detail the franchise mode and let me schedule a month off….well, once I finish up WKC and WKC2 of course.

There was a time when all I played was Madden (and Gran Turismo). Now? I am pretty sure my skills on Madden or seriously lacking thereof.

Too bad 15 states don't allow "skilled gaming" and so I can't enter any of Virgin Gaming's tournaments with prizes…
