Ben-DutkaDiablo III is coming. No, really. It is. Activision swears it is. …at some point.
Okay, we can be more optimistic than that. Activision Blizzard has released an earnings update , in which they confirmed that the long-awaited RPG does not have a launch date; the game is currently not on the release calendar for 2011.
But Blizzard president and co-founder Mike Morhaime tried to encourage the skeptics by saying the team still intends to ship the game before the year is out. They can't commit to a date but at the very least, some players will be able to test out the beta. Said Morhaime:
"Diablo 3 is still on track to go into external beta testing later this quarter. We are very much looking forward to getting the beta into the hands of our players and collecting their feedback for the final phase of development."
Morhaime says this beta phase will be very important for such a "complex release," and the bottom line is that the game will arrive when it's "ready for prime-time." Well, it can't be that far off. Right? Right?!

As much as I would love to have it release this year, I never expected it to. Which is fine with me since Blizzard is just adding more content at this stage anyway as they've already stated a few months back. Just waiting patiently for a pre-order announcement.
I know you can't really reveal secret stuff but I'm curious about the coverage of Diablo III on this site. Is there any more reason than speculation to believe it will be on Sony hardware?
I still don't see it coming to consoles but who knows since the original one did. Blizzard still hasn't confirmed or denied it either but they did say at one point that they were, "currently exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles."
All I can say is that it's Activision. If it were only Blizzard, I'd say no…but Activision passing up multiplatform financial appeal?
Does Activision even DO exclusivity of any kind, anymore? I mean, besides WoW? …which Diablo III really isn't…
P.S. Really, the coverage is a just-in-case scenario.

IF I were to bet, which I often like to do, I'd bet everything on it not coming to consoles. :_(
Sometimes I wonder if video game fairies come to visit you at night though Ben, when you start covering things on a just in case basis, it happens soon after.

Just so you guys know it's not Activision that decides where Blizzard games go. How I know, well let's just say I know a lot more than these articles and rumors. Time to get prepared for work.
X-Play and Attack of the Show had a little piece on Diablo 3 today, they still have an alpha build but the game is pretty much finished. They played the first half of the first act and Blair said it felt pretty finished. He did leave a little caviat that Blizzard doesn't need to rush the game out (because they are stinking rich) and will make sure it is perfect before setting a release date. He guesstimated that it would release in the Spring of next year.
Either way, sadly, I wont play it unless the rumor is true about them porting it to consoles. I'm just not a PC gamer anymore. Though D3 and KOTOR have me very very tempted.

I have read on one site a secret interview (that's how they called it) with Kevin Martens, who states that many people of his crew have already finished Diablo 3 few times, as it's in closed Beta from few weeks now. It means that this game is almost finished, though I'm not hoping it will hit stores in 2011. Actually I don't care that much, as starting from this month we will have many good PS3 titles to play untill very end of the year (starting with Deus Ex for me:)
Also on Blizzard official forum Community Manager have confirmed open public beta in Q4'2011. He encouraged people to update their status of PC specs they have (application can be found on Blizzard site) and hope to be chosen. I already have yesterday…

Where do you live? can't you get internet from different provider then?
Anyway, Starcraft 2 was pirated offline although it is also online only. With Diablo 3 will be the same I'm sure.

nope i cant, im stuck with cable because the copper in the lines is so old by the time a ADSL2 signal got to the house it would be too faint.
so im stuck with cable, and only 2 providers offer it.
switching providers wont solve the issue anyway because the issue is with the cable its not properly shielded.
only way to solve it would be to move house, but yea thats not exactly cost effective…….

All I want to hear about is the PS3 version! Played the other 2 games on the PC and loved them. But I am not a PC gamer anymore and would love to see this on the 65 while I sit comfortably on my couch! 🙂
I hear ya mate, there's nothing like sitting comfortably on the couch with 50" in front of you. I'm using PC only for Starcraft 2 and Bad Company 2 which are better with mouse + keyboard. Everything else is PS3 gaming:)
