Breath Of Fire IV Coming To US PSN On August 16

Old-school role-playing fans already have plenty of PS1 classic options on the PlayStation Network.

But we can always use more! Capcom Corporate Officer Christian Svensson has confirmed in the Capcom-Unity forums that Breath of Fire IV will be available on the US PSN on August 16. Said Svensson:

"I'm told BOF4 (for the US anyway) will launch August 16th on PSN…to celebrate, there will also be BOF PSN avatars for sale that day too."

It's one of the better RPGs for the original PlayStation; it arrived in 2000 and quickly became a fan favorite. Personally, I never played it because I tried Breath of Fire III and for some reason, was unimpressed. So I never finished it and passed on the fourth entry when it showed up…still, it's one of the few PS1 RPGs I regret missing. #1 on that list is Xenogears , by the way. …I know, I know.

BoF lll is one of my all time favourite RPGs. I missed out on this entry….and unless this applies to Pal territories too, i may still miss out.

US PSN gets all the PS1 games i want.

I never played Chrono Trigger (never came to Europe), and it's on US PSN….so annoying. Can a game that wasn't licensed for Europe back then come to European PSN today, anyone?

Chrono Trigger isn't on US PSN yet. I think Sony's looking into bringing more PSX Classics to EU in the future. There were some articles about it. =)

Yeah, my mistake, i read it had been rated by the ESRB, didn't know whether it had appeared yet.

I hope it all does come to Europe.

Excuse me, I have an import version of Breath of Fire IV for my PSP already, so…..

Nyah Nyah!

😉

But yes DQ8 will happen, once I work White Knight Chronicles out of my gaming veins.

Speaking of White Knight, you keep logging on as I'm planning an escape to bed. :p

I swear we'll quest eventually. lol Only GR6 but working my way up.

Yeah, I've been arriving late in the night recently. I will try for an earlier start.

There's plenty to do at GR6, and you'll be GR7 in no time, especially if we grind through Best Served Cold a few trillion (OK dozen) times.

Id grind some gr quests with you guys but I'm ntless. So I'm working through a ngp+ to get the silver lance( another one ) to make it ice elemental, so I can solo grind bsc2.

But don't forget to do other quests for the mats, that way you guys don't miss out on the other gr gear.

And also, lotus, I've never seen chrono trigger in the ps store. I've looked prolly a hundred times, and Ive never seen it.

What about Home of the Knave? I read that can be done with 1-2 people (depending on level) in 5-6 minutes and can return 1300-1400 points.

Hotk is a pretty decent quest, if you know the exact way to the boss. That's what makes it a fast quest.

But you'd still prolly be better off doing bsc over and over. I'm sure that you'd get more gr points at a faster rate that way. I think with bsc you get something like 5600 points for clearing the quest. And it only takes about 3-5 minutes, depending on if you stock ac before the big red fight, or just go in and molly-whomp him.

Best Served Cold 1, 2 and 3 are the definitive grinding quests because you can go straight to the boss and complete the quest by killing him.

Dreno is right about collecting materials, it's extremely important for the transition into WKC2, as is money. In general though you want to max your GR as much as possible and get that GeoRama to as high a level as possible. In WKC2 you'll need higher GR to get to the higher GeoRama levels. The GR system is expanded and you'll start with whatever GR you have in WKC1. If you can do it now, improving your Georama to level 7 or 8 before moving to WKC2 gives an advantage – because you can't get the higher Georama levels in WKC2 until you get a much higher GR than in WKC1.

Because I gotta hold off on the games spending over the next while (as one income in our family will be much less due to my wife's maternity leave, which still pays, but not nearly as much as when she works), I've decided I'll move onto WKC2 once I platinum it. Which I know will take a good long while.

But it's a great way for me to manage my spending. :p Plus, I'm nowhere near being bored with WKC.

You're probably right Claire. I don't have it to hand at the moment, it was the European release, and so yes, it will be Breath of Fire III.

Dreno

When you're adding the water/ice element to your weapon, don't forget that there's no point enhancing the weapon more than +1 for the element because you gain very little extra damage for each additional elemental enhancement. You're better enhancing the element once, and then enhancing the physical attack as many more times as possible on the weapon. There are articles over at Neoseeker that explain, but basically when enhancing a weapon with elements, there's only a point in maxing out the element enhancement to +10 to be able to get a combo complete on any 4AC combo. For every other kind of attack, a single elemental enhancement with the rest all physical enhancements gives better results on regular attacks.

Dreno, my mistake, i read it was coming, didn't know whether it had already appeared.

All your talk of WKC, folks…it's so different in WKC2!
What takes decades to do in WKC, takes but a day in WKC2. I GR'd up 10 times in two days.

Yeah, but it is still a challenge to get to the higher GRs isn't it? I mean, sure the GR15 player starts WKC2 with GR15, but since the scale now goes to 30, they're at the lower end of the ladder. If I remember correctly, the number of GR points needed to go up in GR past about GR20 in WKC2 becomes quite large. Plus don't the changed requirements for Georama mean that you can't get past level 7 for a good long while because of the level and GR requirements?

@lotus : dammit, you got me all sorts of stoked. I thought it may have dropped onto the ps store and maybe I mistakenly made a uk psn account or something. But atleast its coming.

@highlander: I've read articles about the 2 different ways to elem. Enhance your weapons. I've seen tons of articles that say its best to only do 1 elem. Enhance and the rest in actuall strentgh.

But I read one recently that ran tests on the same weapon, a short sword, on the same quest ( can't remember which one but it was a high gr ) at 3 different stages of the enhancement. Once at +3, once at +6 and once again at max. The person had one ss set up with 1 elem. And the rest in strength, and the other ss was pure elem. Enhanced. Long story short they found that on average the ss with all elem. Enhancments did a couple more hundred, or thousand ( depending on if it was at +3 or higher ) damage in combos. And since ill be using my 6ac spear combo called lionheart to be demolishing big red, I'm just gonna go all elem.

But I do agree that if your just gonna attack rather than do combos, a 1+ elem and the rest in strength is the way to go. I think after I get into the higher gr's ill have to try a test of my own, and personally find out which is the better way to go.

But thanks for the heads up, any info from you is always appreciated sir.

NP Dreno, I'm not sure how far I will be able to drag my Avatar before WKC2 get's here, it would be nice to get my GR into the teens, but that's a long haul.

Is Xenogears your favorite game, Underdog?

Dreno

I hear you on that note highlander. I'm actually starting to get burnt out on the grinding, but there's a few things I want to accomplish prior to wkc2.

I want to ATLEAST hit gr10, and I'm desperatley trying to get the 10mil trophy. Right now I'm sitting at 1.1 mil.

On thing I'm stokedfor in wkc2 is that I read that there's a training dummy in rapacci's that you can. Actually reset all of your characters skills, including leanord and yulie etc…

Since I found my 1st save data of wkc, I realized how muc I didn't know about the game. I gotta go in and chage every ones skills and what not. Make yulie an archer/white mage, ceaser a spear/white mage, leanord a ss/ls user and eldore a ls/black mage. I can't wait for wkc2 but thankfully I've still got loads on my plate in wkc.

Actually, Dragon Quest 8 is my all-time favorite rpg. Not just rpg, but all time favorite game. period.

Xenogears was my all-time favorite PS1 game, though. Great story. And it's long. Best part is, it isn't drawn out. It keeps moving along to something new. Very original and well done.

The second disk, though, ended up being presented in a summary. There are mixed feelings on this depending on the person. I personally felt cheated out of a few more dungeons and felt like it was less immersive, however, by the time you get there, you've probably already put in 50+ hours, so others found it a good way of wrapping up.

Ben, you've got an error in your post. The image is of BOF3, not BOF4. It's clear, because Momo was a BOF3 character. I've played the game enough.

This is BOF4: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6d/BoFIVScreen.png

Hey, here's some good news for all you European gamers….

Euro PSN To See Previously Japan/U.S. Only PSOne Classics

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/36281/Euro_PSN_To_See_Previously_JapanUSOnly_PSOne_Classics.php

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will soon begin offering downloadable, emulated version of original PlayStation games that were previously only available in Japan and the United States.

Publishers can now submit their Japanese and American PlayStation titles for approval by SCEE, where they will be considered for release "as is" with original Japanese or English language game content.

Such titles will still need ratings from local ratings boards before seeing European release, and will need to comply with legal requirements for licensed content such as included real-world products, sports stadiums and music.

Titles will run at the original 60 Hz refresh rate used by Japanese and U.S. NTSC TVs, meaning older European TVs that run on the 50 Hz PAL standard may not be able to display the content.

Sony did not mention what titles would be released under the new program, but confirmed that "a few are already in the process" of being approved. The policy opens the door for critically acclaimed Square Enix titles like Chrono Cross and Parasite Eve to be available in the region for the first time.

Sony is inviting players to comment on the announcement thread with specific requests for titles they'd like to see released, promising to speak to publishers about bringing the most-requested titles to the European PlayStation Store.
