Many long-time SSX fans are wondering if the reboot can reclaim past glory.
Some are worried that EA will try to do too much; that they'll steer the franchise in another direction. But change can be good, yes? According to creative director Toddy Batty, the game was actually going to boast one feature that could've changed the entire feel of the game. According to what Batty told Edge (as cited at VideoGamer ), the new project once had skiing. Yeah, that's right.
"We had skiing in at the very early days in this SSX, and I was actually one of the advocates; I was pushing that we should have it. That's something that made its first appearance in SSX: ON Tour, but the tough thing about skiing is that every single animation in the entire game would have to be duplicated for characters with skis as opposed to characters on snowboards.
If we did skis, it would mean half as many tricks split across skis and snowboards. SSX at its core is a snowboarding game first and foremost."
Even so, Batty did say that skiing would probably arrive "in one form or another" after SSX was on store shelves. "We'd love to do skis at some point in the future, maybe as DLC or in a follow up version…" But how do the avid franchise fans feel? Would they vote for skis…?
Related Game(s): SSX
I'd only vote for ski's as an add-on to the game. Since the core gameplay (stunts and tricks) would be split between the two and then a lesser masterpiece would be made.
yeah, like 'hello' BIG, no one really liked the Skiing part, I know you like to put it in, but no one wanted it. its as welcome as Third person view in Red Faction.. and now look at them! …lol
stick to high mountains, impossible tricks, avalanches, stunts…. stick to what defines SSX!
As the decal on my board says…
…'Skiing is for fat little kids'.
Never a truer word spoken.
EA had a great thing going with their BIG franchise. Sadly, SSX and Def Jam both seem to have suffered from the one hit wonder syndrome. Hopefully this focus on the core SSX game will have a good effect and we'll get what we've been wanting for years.
SSX had three hits though. The third was my favorite. =)
Same here…SSX 3 was my absolute favorite as well….the tricks got crazy insane especially with the trick tracks and Uber tricks ON RAILS….OMG, I need this game NOW! Making me want to break out my PS2 and get it in for old times sake!
I can still remember the PS2 games I had during the launch window. It was Timesplitters, SSX, Smuggler's Run, Midnight Club, and Tekken Tag Tournament. SSX and Timesplitters were my favorites. Really, really loved SSX3. Very excited for this. =D
keep it a board game, thats where the series belongs.
there trying to reboot the series and revive the series to its old days so boards is where they should stay.
i wish the TH games would get a reboot, i remember playing them on myps1 for months on end!
