While many will claim there are too many sequels in the industry, there are many new IPs that desperately need a follow-up title. Some are likely lost causes (sorry, Schafer), but others are quite feasible, and we really, really want 'em.
Psychonauts
Tim Schafer has always received all the respect in the world from critics and hardcore gamers, but sadly, so many of his wonderfully charming and innovative experiences have failed on the sales charts. One of these unfortunate under-achievers was last generation's fantastic Psychonauts , which featured a certain humor and wit that is just so appealing. The level design of this action/platformer was also second-to-none; I honestly believe it boasts several of the best levels in history: The Milkman Conspiracy, Waterloo, and Black Velvetopia. Please make a sequel happen !
Mirror's Edge
While Psychonauts 2 seems out of the realm of possibility, this one is very likely. EA has said they have no desire to abandon the IP, and they even said a sequel would probably use the new Frostbite 2 engine. The original game is a great favorite of PSXE's, and we believe it featured one of the most promising foundations of the generation. It was borderline revolutionary and the potential is almost limitless. Provided they take the appropriate steps and keep the game just as dynamic and frantic, Mirror's Edge 2 should be awesome .
Vanquish
Platinum Games knocked this one out of the park, in our opinion. Fast and ferocious, these developers brought the sensation of a flat-out hack 'n slash action game (like their previous project, Bayonetta ) to the highly competitive third-person shooter category. And the result? A game that really doesn't play anything like any other TPS in existence. It boasted a lengthy campaign due to the lack of multiplayer (and we were fine with that), and even though Plaintum loves new IPs, we hope they return to Vanquish . It kicks too much ass to disappear.
Alan Wake
We've heard whispers about something new in the works at Remedy, but we don't have the official announcement yet. …maybe it's because they don't have a publisher lined up. We're just hoping it is Alan Wake 2 , and we're also hoping it comes to the PlayStation 3 . The gameplay was a little repetitive but there's no denying the engaging, extremely well-written storyline. This is one plot – and one main character – that absolutely deserves another adventure.
Lost Odyssey
Maybe it's just because it's the last truly great , truly turn-based RPG we've seen this generation. It didn't sell too poorly (even if it was well shy of a blockbuster), and we're a little annoyed that a sequel never arrived. Of course, with the "archaic" old-school combat mechanic all but dead on consoles, a follow-up effort would probably have some stupid real-time/turn-based hybrid system that at least tries to satisfy the twitchers. But the hardcore RPG lovers know what they want: a new story with the same damn gameplay.
And by the way, I believe the dream sequences in this game represented some of the finest writing we've ever seen in gaming. Yes, you read them and let me tell you…a professional wrote those.
I haven't played any of those. :_(
I wish Lost Odyssey and Alan Wake were brought to the PS3. Oh Well, I have enough as it is.

I plan to get a ramshackle 360 after the next generation comes out just to place those 2 games. As it stands though, the hardware is too unreliable and costs more than it's worth.
Lost Oddessy was brilliant aside from the Temple of Enlightenment which stopped me getting through to the end.
Until that point it was great.
Wasn't that dungeon optional? I just remember gaining mad levels in that place and getting really lost. Used a guide to save my patience.
It would seem Platinum would like to do a sequel for Vanquish seeing that the game's story isn't complete without one.
I really should start disk 2 on Lost Odyssey. I absolutely agree about the written dream sequences. They are well written, which I find to be unexpected, especially from an Eastern game. I wonder if the native version was written well, because it doesn't read like a translation. But anyway, LO deserves a sequel.
Alan Wake is too creepy for my interests.
I'd like to add a special request. I'd like a proper sequel to Sega's Shinobi/Nightshade games. I really enjoyed those. It's a shame there's been no word on a PS3 follow up, or even an HD remake of the originals.
No video game story is complete without a sequel these days. I think Bayonetta 2 is more likely.
Rogue Galaxy was definitely a gem that went under the radar. When playing rogue galaxy and white knight chronicles, its clear that its the same developer.
Add Rogue Galaxy to that list and it will be perfect.
Why Level 5 didn't make one right away I can't imagine. It was an early example of the perfect fusion of action and turn based combat that didn't destroy JRPG goodness. I really hope after WKC2 they revisit their old projects like Dark Cloud and Rogue.

oh lord rouge galaxy!, i have been waiting 10 years for a sequel
I never liked Dark Cloud. I hate having to manage both my health as well as my weapons. It adds another layer of inventory management that doesnt really help the gameplay at all.
Rogue Galaxy was incredible though. Its one of my favorite RPGs of all time. It doesnt get half of the recognition it deserves.
Not anticipating any of these since I haven't played them. Still want to try Vanguish though
Legend of Dragoon. 'Nuff said.
That's on my list of PSX games to play. How do you rate it among others of that generation?
Don't ask for my rating, it's my favorite game of all time so I'd probably give it 10/10 with its only flaw being the voice acting. I love that game to death and couldn't give a fair review if someone paid me.

or at least put it on PSN for the love of Heaven.
I just meant like compared to other PS1 RPGs. Lol. Not everything has to be on a scale from 1 to 10. =)
World, wasn't LoD published and developed by Sony? So why isn't it on PSN???
Graphically it's better than FF7, it's on par with FF8. Um…I haven't played a lot of PS1 RPGs, i was only 8 when I started with LoD, so I wasn't hugely into RPGs.
LoD's world map was God awful. That was NOT on par with FFVII.
The combat effects were nice, though. And the game was great.
I said graphics Ben, I chose to ignore the world map in that consideration ;P
How about a sequel to Eternal Sonata, Nier, and Borderlands? o.O
Eternal Sonata yes, but instead of a sequel how about another historical music based story with new characters? That game was gorgeous. If it didn't have the button mashing action it would have been perfect.
I would love a sequel to Nier.
I fear Nier. I beat it and I still can't decide if I loved it or hated it. Both I guess. It stays in the collection, but I know playing it again would be a weird kind of torture.
And I'd prefer Gearbox make their own, proper Duke Nukem game in time to rescue the man before sitting down to a new Borderlands.

I'd love a borderlands sequel.
Yes, a sequel to Nier would be nice!
The only ones of those I've played are Vanquish and Mirrors Edge, and I kinda quit them early. ME is going to need more undivided attention and as Vanquish is fairly empty aside from the action I'm just gonna sit on it until I feel I need an gaming adrenaline rush. It's so hard to get by my guy's attempt at sound like Batman it just grates me.
What I'd really like to see just personally on my list of IPs would be Heavenly Sword 2, Enslaved 2, Dante's Inferno 2, Dark Void 2, Darkwatch 2, and every single decent JRPG that never got a sequel.
I definitely want HS2 and Enslaved 2. …but you can't really want a Dark Void 2. 'gag'
Yup, that game may not have been the best but it had serious potential and was jetpack fun. And there's no getting around the fact that the vertical third person platform shooting mechanic is something that would fit right at home in Uncharted.
Lost Odyssey is all the proof you need to know that this gen can fully support a HD, turn-based rpg. That whole ring-and-running-thing was awesome sauce. It proves that turn-based can be cool and is not just some archaic play mechanic. RPG devs these days, they just don't have imagination anymore. A LO2 on the PS3 would be a day one for me.
Vanquish 2 would be fantastic! I have been saying it ever since Vanquish came out! The game was very good with tight shooting mechanics. The control was perfect, yes, I actually mean perfect. The jet boots gave the game a very unique and fresh vehicle. My only problems were that it ended and ended way to quickly and that Part 2 hasn't been announced. If you haven't played it rent it now!
Can't argue bout the controls, they are very tight.
Lost Odyssey is still the best!!! Vanquish and Bayonetta deserve a sequel. Mirror's Edge rocked even though I struggled with it.
Shadow Hearts 4 must be made. And Star Ocean shouldn't have ended at 4, we need more.
I'm not sure if I should buy FFXIII-2 right away or not. I know it will be good, but I also know it will be RPG lite and probably 20 bucks cheaper in a month.
I'd adore another Shadow Hearts IF they kept the Judgment Ring. If not, I'm out.
World, weren't they supposed to make a big fix on FF13 and get something decent out the door for the next one? What is the latest on that?
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
The latest is they have made those improvements, there are some towns areas, there are NPCs which are all voiced, there is some exploration, a vague idea that battles will be more strategic.
BUUUUUT you still control just one a**hole at a time, side quests don't appear to be there (at least not yet), auto battle returns, death with the leader will likely return.
I think it will be FFXIII 2.0, which is really just an improvement on a game that, while good, wasn't worth full price because it was essentially a stripped down FF.
Ok, thanks for the update mate!

Well my callls for a sequel to Metro 2033 were answered, but has everyone forgotten…crap! Forgot it lol. Wow ok well I want a sequel for Borderlands, Red Dead Redemption, Homefront, Enslaved and wow I had a really good one and I forgot it. DAMN
I didn't even know about Metro cuz it was a PC game, looking forward to Last Light on PS3.
Metro looked very good – I am sure the second one will be even better. Great atmosphere…

well of course beyond good and evil should get a shot, and i know it has already had a number of games i want a current gen game of the soul reaver to finish off where the last one ended. love those games
i'd like to see another Fallout
There will be. Or Bethesda will fall.
Um… no according to these elder scrolls they won't.
What I mean is I will tear them apart with my bare hands and chew them up.
said many times—lost odyssey is the best and true JRPG on xbox360 this gen, while the demon's souls is the PS3 counter parts…

It is a great list… personally I enjoyed playing Vanquish and Mirrors' Edge, but only as demo's. Both great looking games, especially Vanquish, and both should be even better as sequels with visual and story refinements. Also, from what I saw of Alan Wake, it looked like a decent I.P. and watched the one hour play through on Gamespot when they made it available back in the day. I remember telling myself why couldn't this came to PS3. I think one day it will. An Alan Wake sequel could be very interesting indeed.

Good list Ben.
As for myself, I'd also like to see a "Singularity 2", "Stranglehold 2", & "The Saboteur 2".
And even a "Haze 2", by any developer that's pretty well known for being bug & glitch free.
