Soul Calibur V is gonna be great. We're just all sorts of convinced.
To learn a little more about it, visit the PlayStation Blog where the game's producer, Hisaharu Tago, gave us a look at a couple new characters. Plus, he talked about the new logo for Project Soul; the original team was disbanded after SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny released for the PSP, but the fans wanted more Soul Calibur . Hence, the new logo is an appreciation to the fans who stepped up and demanded the team get back together; now, SCV represents a "new era and direction."
He then talks about changes to the battle system. The game will be "faster and sharper" and if you've seen some of the gameplay trailers, you've probably spotted the upgrades. One of the new features is the Quick Move high-speed evasion maneuver, and we always love the spiffy combos one can execute. But don't you worry about these changes bringing an imbalance to the experience:
"We know that innovation causes not only expectation, but concern as well. Please be reassured that we understand that characters fans are used to must not be completely changed, and that these innovations must not make the game unbalanced. We are working day and night to ensure that the game will be well balanced and make for an exciting and satisfying gamepay experience."
Tago then shows us three characters; two of which are new. He reassures everyone that Ivy will return and look very much the same; "her eternal existence is promised." The two new characters are Natsu and Z.W.E.I. The latter gives us a hint as to the weapon-based combat; any sword we've seen with "Zwei-" in the title has always been a massive two-handed blade.
Anyway, good to see Ivy. She's the best .

Gee, why is Ivy so popular? I defy anyone to come with at least two big reasons.
-Arvis
Cause once you mastered her weapon combos she can take down just about any character. As for her 'assets' well that's just an added perk.
babababababounce!
So that guy WASN'T Maxi. …and here I was ready to make Mad Maxi and Evil Elvis jokes…
Sophitia is Best. Ben, you know that…. 😉
Then again, I'm liking that new Ivy design, one can never have too much lace and cleavage in a video game…
No, but seriously, as long as the core game play doesn't feel too different, and as long as we have the create a soul modes and please, please, please, please a decent story for once, I will be a happy gamer.

I was actually expectng her to wear dental floss this time. What a disappointment…
I believe that you can thank the western response to Ivy for that.
I submitted a character to them in that one thing and based on their questions I think it's safe to say the Soul Creator will be back and better than ever.
Soul Calibur V is already a Day One Purchase for me, but that is good news.
To be more specific they asked what would be the one thing you wanted to tell the director and one of the answers was "Make the character creator better"
I chose that one just because I love the character creator and want it even better, but I didn't think it was bad in IV at all as I'm sure you've heard me say before.
Your main girl Sophitia is the new Nightmare highlander. Just a prediction
Sophitia was already on the wrong side once before – SC4, I don't think they'll do that to her again, she's not the bad-guy type, more of a tragic heroine than a villain. But, if that were the case, it would almost certainly lose day one purchase status.
i mean, whatever form nightmare takes, its going to be from her. probably same fighting style mixed with some evilness, not just evil because of her weapon.
Nightmare is my second choice behind Astaroth, so i may take him or her up if she's the one. Mainly people are going by the evil female voice on the new trailer.
I don't remember her being truly evil in SC4 tho
@TheHighlander
I'm not to sure about the idea of a character affecting my purchase of a game when there's plenty of others… Besides, it has been implied in the last Comic-Con trailer that she'll become the new host for Soul Edge [aka Nightmare]. She's one of my mains too and I'm more curious than anything to see how she'll turn out
Right, if anything id be even more excited to see whats in store for a main character of mine. Since mine is Astaroth and Nightmare, id have to decide on if i should adopt the new nightmare if she does indeed play like sophie
That's fine for both of you, personally, not for me. If Sophitia get's screwed up, then the games off my radar.
"One of the new features is the Quick Move high-speed evasion maneuver"
This is nothing and why? In Soul Edge every character had a evasion maneuver where you could dodge an incoming attack and at times break free of holds. With this said its obvious to me that they are getting rid of the 8-way run
thats just the name of something different. 8 way running is still there, if u watch the trailers its shown in them
in fact, both are there, but quick step is something much quicker. and it was in way back in Soul Calibur 2, tho it wasn't supposed to be, all tourney level players utilized it. The devs just finally decided to input the maneuver officially this time

Since we don't know how this new system will work you may be prematurely ejaculating, I mean speculating.
there's an 18 minute video showcasing the new additions, the quick step is just what it sounds like, it sidesteps a lot faster than the normal 8 way run maneuver. So 8 way running is still in, but this extra technique furthers the dodging capabilities of characters. Characters like my main fighter, Astaroth, may benefit from it greatly.
They also showed Brave edge and Critical Edge. Brave edge takes a move from your arsenal and makes it stronger, or you recover faster from it. Somewhat like the ex moves on SF4. Critical Edges are similar to super moves like on SF4, but work a bit similar to the critical finishes off Soul Calibur 4. Each work off a new bar, up to 2 bars in the video, brave moves take half a bar, criticals 1 bar
Honestly I can't even tell Ivy's outfit has changed, but whenever I play the original Soul Calibur on Dreamcast I'm always shocked at how much skin she has covered up.
Normally I'm not keen on big change in franchises, but I'm looking forward to seeing how they implement this faster battle mechanic for SC. I think it's a good idea for this type of game since fighters can get stale, gamers are twitchier every day, SC has solid moves but can still be played with button mashing, and ya just don't want to be accused of selling the same game over and over again like certain other developers.
it would be nice to see ichigo or kenpachi in this game. I would rather see kenpachi because he dont use no fancy tricks. lol
Okay after seeing the new trailer I'm totally cited and I think this is the best outfit yet for Ivy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTKDz68nmeI&feature=share This is the 18 minute video showcasing certain aspects.
hmmmmmmmm, i wonder whos going to be the exclusive characters for this?
yoda and darth vader were in the last one, so who could they pick next?
never got into the last one, picked it up since it was the only game releasing that month, and in fact the only game releasing in like 2 months before and after!
but ended up taking it back a few days after, just does not offer the in depth and complex system you get from MK or tekken or even street fighter.
to me theres only ever been one fighting game!
MK, it just offers everything!
tekken and street fighter are ok, but they just offer the arcade styled depth fighting system.
they dont offer the side pieces that MK always has had.

You my friend obviously haven't played a fighting game called Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, that put's any beat em up to shame technically & strategically.
The roster is abit light but the indepth fighting & extremely deep customisation more than make up for it. I just wish SEGA would release the freakin' thing to consoles.
On SCV, obviously i cannot wait for it, the new characters looks decent especially that Devil Maxi looking guy, can't say i am digging Taki's supposed replacement though. Also glad to see a series icon return in Ivy. I reckon there are good signs ahead for this game but it's inevitable that some big characters will miss out, i fear Taki is one of them.
But i'm sure i will get over it.
thats exactly my point.
allot of fighting games out there have a better fighting system then MK, but they dont offer the other things that only it does.
its like having one gold medal, or 500 silver ones.
sure the golds better, but id rather have very good and lots of it, then only one of better.
WHAT!?!? no love for the NAAAAAMMMUUUUU!
