Battlefield 3 Pre-Orders Keep Pace With Last Year’s Black Ops

Have you pre-ordered BF3 yet?  No?  Well, many, many other people have.

While Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is bound to be the eventual sales winner – by a large margin – EA's Battlefield 3 is no slouch, especially in the pre-order department. According to GamesIndustry.biz , analyst firm Cowen & Company says pre-orders for the DICE-developed BF3 are actually on pace with that of last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops . Of course, Activision has already said pre-orders for Modern Warfare 3 were also ahead of Black Ops , so… That being said, the analysts have still raised the overall sales prediction for BF3: Cowen & Company now believes the game will sell between 8 and 11 million copies.

Did you realize that these two games could combine to sell 35 million copies before all is said and done? That's… absurd .

That's not absurd… it's saddening. Seriously. But it's good to know that EA's hype machine is working. Maybe we'll finally see the juggernaut topple next year.

Why is it saddening? If people are enjoying themselves why not then?

For the majority people who simply want to have a good time playing game and not having to think too much after a long days work, this is perfect entertainment.

There is enough space in the market for various entertainment titles so everyone can have a share of the pie… Populist gaming will always be with us, intellectual gaming too. It just depends what scratches your goat!

Anyway, these sorts of gaming titles keep the kids off the street. Populist gaming similar to Hollywood… churn them out, feed the masses, keep em' passive…

Q!

"feed the masses – keep'em passive"

its saddening because it just reinforces the stereotype that publishers have that we play nothing but freaking military shooters!
at this rate games like LA Noire and heavy rain will be as common as the freaking dinosaur!

Anon pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Don't get me wrong, Q, I see your point, but when two games, the focus of which is fast, flashy gameplay with limited depth and multiplayer, manages to constitute a rate rouhgly 1:3 in terms of consoles in consumers' hands, it gives credence to theories that seem to be floating from S-E headquarters that no-one wants a thinking game.

Such games will continue to exist and be made, but they will by no means be anything even approaching prevalence, and odds are that they'll be underappreciated anyway.

Also, your last paragraph saddens me quite as much, but only because of your reference to kids. Seriously, the age restriction is 15… that is who should be playing it, not anyone younger than that.
Peace.

Well I'm glad they are stepping up to confront the evilness of CoD but like, I seriously don't get it. There are so many games that are better that will never see sales like that even over their entire franchise history. C'mon now people, they are military shooters, good fun with friends for a little bit. There's nothing special about them like there is about Uncharted or Bioshock or inFamous.

i agree, but when BF2 was released on ps2, that was all i played, i didnt own a headset or even have internet connection on my ps2…i thought that it was the coolest game out there. so now since they are releasing its successor then it really become a no-brainer.

Agreed there World.

There is little to no imagination or variation in these modern war FPS' compared to something like God of War, Heavy Rain, Catherine, Assassin's Creed, ratchet and clank, even Super Mario games continue to wow me with such incredible clever puzzles, powers and level designs!!

Only graphics and sound design wow people with Battlefield 3 or COD. Nothing special about their level designs, or gameplay.

I'm hoping Goldeneye Reloaded will have all the fun mods and cheats from the N64 days cos they were the most fun I ever had with a console shooter!! Bring back DK paintball mode with explosive knives!! LOL

Just to clarify I'm not saying people shouldn't get the games they like, it's just that I can't believe it has come to the point where the be all end all of the must have gaming experience has finally reached the level of the basic big budget go nowhere Hollywood film like Transformers or something. Nothing special about it, I can wait for the release on netflix now gimme something with that special something to it ya know?

EA kicks off $50m Battlefield advertising war.

Billboards emerge the across UK as EA prepares to battle Call of Duty

EA's kicked off its estimated $50 million Battlefield 3 advertising blitz, with billboards starting to crop up all over the UK.

So far fans on the official Battlefield forums have spotted giant EA billboards clad in Battlefield garb in London, Birmingham, Salisbury and Bracknell.

Most of the advertising seems to be centred in Birmingham, possibly in preparation for GAMEFEST at the NEC Arena on September 16.

EA's kicked off its big Battlefield push a full 14 weeks before the game's release on October 28, strongly backing up the notion we won't be able to move for FPS marketing by the end of the year.

Analysts have estimated that Battlefield 3's marketing budget could top $50 million, with EA CEO John Riccitiello has said he expects over $100m to be spent advertising both Battlefield and Call of Duty this Christmas.

And I do agree with the comments above stating how the greatest games out there don't get the hype, talk, credit and sales they derserve. If so, COD would of been a thing of the past. If only gaming worked like that, of only…
