We really liked the original and we'll remain patient for the sequel.
Initially, The Darkness II boasted an October 4 release date. But 2K Games has confirmed that the long-awaited follow-up title won't be available until February 7. Developed by Digital Extremes (and not the original title's creator, Starbreeze Studios), The Darkness II picks up where the first adventure left off: protagonist Jackie Estacado is now the head of the Franchetti clan but after someone tries to take him out, things spiral out of control. Estacado had managed to control the darkness within but the murder attempt brings out the beast in him…literally. As far as we know, there is no official reason for the delay.
Perhaps it's an internal development snafu, but it might just be that 2K doesn't want to battle the rest of the huge fall lineup. Every year, a few of the lesser titles escape to the new year to have a better shot at success. Nothin' wrong with that.

As a big fan of the original, I'm disappointed to hear of the delay but it will give the game more time for polish. Thing is, there really aren't a lot of games I'm planning to buy this Fall. This was one of them. That just leaves Resistance 3, Uncharted 3 and Batman: Arkham City for me. I guess Saints Row 3 can take its place.
I hope the graphics in SR3 are much improved, I'm really liking part 2 but it can be difficult to look at.
@World: Judging from the videos so far SR3 looks notably better, while maintaining the SR2 visual style.
Looks promising indeed.
And even better, based on both their claims and how it looks they've improved the car handling a lot. That was my biggest gripe about SR2.
But man, you gotta get a buddy with you in SR2 – it just adds *so* much to the fun. Buy it as a gift or something, to a friend with a ps3. 🙂
I was mildly interested until I learned it went cel-shaded. It isn't that I don't like cel shaded games but I don't see it fitting in with this atmosphere and still being what it needs to be.
That worried me too. Maybe this is the reason for the delay even? That their research showed they had to do some changes to the visual presentation?
It's based off a comic book, and Digital Extremes have said that they feel that it is more fitting considering the origins of the game. Whatever the reason for the delay, I doubt that they'll be changing the visual style.
Yeah I know but I think the new style was way too colorful, too "happy" sorta. Darkness is supposed to be gothic, dark, depressive. Not the "happy shooter" I thought it looked more like in that video a while back.
I hope they tone that down. The Darkness is not supposed to be just another fps, cell shaded or not!
I'm becoming less and less interested in this one. :_(
my hope is that the STORY is good
Yeah. That's what was so great about the first, the story. I loved it.
Hey, apparently the levelling system is far more in depth this time, being kinda like Bioshock in that you'll be able to take certain power paths… Had me interested.
So, basically, it's now going to be competing against Mass Effect 3, Inversion and possibly Bioshock Infinite and Ghost Recon? Uh-huh… Now, I definitely have to find a copy of the original.
they do realize by moving it from october where its biggest threat was BF3 to early next year puts it in the firing line of some of the industries biggest games right?
sigh, why is it that the only game releasing in october that i want (besides BF3) is the only one that gets delayed?
why couldent it be a game i dont give a sh*t about, like twisted metal?
typical………….
You were *just* complaining that there were too many games releasing in October.
I guess my rebuttal changed your opinion.
