Sadly, PlayStation Network users typically have to wait for any Call of Duty DLC.
But at least we know when the Annihilation pack will be heading our way. Activision has revealed today that this popular piece of extra content is "T-minus 13 days away from launching" on the PSN and PC.
So that puts it at July 28, if we're doing our math correctly. As you all know, Black Ops broke just about every sales record there was to be broken, and to supplement that best-selling effort, the Annihilation pack features "four of the best multiplayer maps to date." Said Treyarch studio boss Mark Lamia:
"With Annihilation, the team at Treyarch and Activision has shown its continued commitment to bringing new and unique content to our fans. Players are getting four of the best multiplayer maps to date with Hangar 18, Drive-In, Silo and Hazard. They also get a brand new dose of thrills in Shangri-La, our latestZombies offering, packed with deadly traps and dark secrets buried within the shifting walls of an ancient and mysterious temple."
The summer lull is here so you might as well enhance your online experience, right? You can probably guess at the price; most all CoD packs are $14.99, so that won't come as any huge surprise.

i wonder if 360 users getting dlc first is a factor in why the 360 is winning so big in na. i'm pretty sure it might be. sales numbers were very lopsided last month with 507,000 360's sold vs 240,000 ps3's in na.
They get it first because CoD is way more popular on the 360.
I think it might. My thing about timed DLC is I'm no longer excited for it when we get it late. I was really looking forward to the GTA4 expansions but when they came late I couldnt care less about them. Then the same goes for these, I liketo hear about them but when they come late, I don't care anymore. Not to mention the price of these packs is horrendous. If it wasnt for the GOTY edition of fallout 3 I never would have got those expansions either.
These developers need to realize te pay off may be big to release timed exclusives but there is possibly a loss of consumers at the same time. I'm sure the pay off covers that though which is sad.
America needs to get a clue.
It might. Being as the xbox is the console of choice for fps. But one thing I'm sure of is that it's disappointing that the xbox is the one that receives most of the 3rd party support with their timed dlc exclusives and how most of the third party games perform better on that console. Don't get me wrong. PS3 has the best first party exclusives of all time. But we can't all just live off of first party games. Then again… as long as there are gamers willing to pay third party devs for their mediocre work on the PS3 side, we won't get the true quality us PS3 gamers deserve…(please note I didn't say ALL devs. OK MR. JAWKNEE???) just kidding dude, high five!
@bigrailer
i could not agree more. that's exactly how i feel about waiting around for dlc. i have had some of my friends tell me one of the reasons they got a 360 is becuase ms shows they care about them by locking down early dlc. they don't want to wait around for it. section 8 prejudice is game that my xbox owning friends love. ofcourse it showed up on 360 1st. months later on the ps3.
@maxpontiac
i wish na would get a clue, but i don't see it happening. everytime i check the na numbers the gap just keeps widening.
@ceser
good point about a console not being able to live on exclusives alone. it's interesting you brought up the quality of multiplats becuase i know that's a factor in the 360 getting more sales. cod is a great example. it just looks and plays better on the 360. as do many other multiplats. gamers know this. ps3 multiplats have improved a lot but there still are small but noticable diferences.

@ Excelsior
Sounds like your friends have either Stockholm Syndrome or battered wife syndrome. M$ cares about them because it wastes money it could be investing in game development just to get them DLC on the date they would otherwise have gotten it? Gotta love the fanboy mentality.
MAn they are pumping these packs out. Seems like every month there's a new one. Maybe they should work this hard, putting them into a retail copy of the game. Especially at $14.99 a piece, what a rip off. I can't believe people pay for that! I've never bought one and I'm an avid CoD player, but I will never pay 1/4 of what I paid for the full game on a few maps.
Doesn't this make the fourth map pack? Sorry, I haven't been keeping up as I didn't buy Black Ops. Anyway, if it is the fourth pack then that puts them at the full price of another game. Wow. And I am sure that there are people picking up every map pack as they come out.
I believe it is the fourth. Thats what I'm saying, is the first came out in like march I believe and have had 3 since. It's insane the amount of content they are releasing. I just don't get why this hard work can't be put into making the retail copy bigger? Anyways that's beside the point I guess since it already released. I havnt bought any of these packs because of the price but, yea if you ha bought them all you've paid for another game basically as you pointed out.
probably because activision pumps these games out so fast that devs don't get the time to finish all the maps before the game is released… if that makes sense. I was going to go with the whole…"because of the f**king dvd-9" but it doesn't seem like the games even fill them up…
Yea I mean 2 years is a long time for a game that uses the same engine every game, and only has 8 maps and 1 zombie map. I think the single player probably takes the majority of that time. I can understand that, but when ur pumping out 5 maps every month for $14.99, I can't help but wonder ya know.
How many maps come with BlOps? If it's 16 or fewer, isn't $15 for four (plus Zombies) a comparable value, especially if you're one of the CODites who ignores the single-player campaign?
I'm not saying they shouldn't offer more value, but if the DLC offers the equivalent of a portion of the game for a price relative to that portion of the game's price, how can you complain?
Warhawk came with 5 multi-configuration maps for $40 (sans headset). Each piece of DLC added 1 multi-configuration map (plus a new vehicle and other bits) for $8. Totally fair value. Plus, as the price of the game dropped, so did the price of the DLC.
edit: I obviously didn't read the comment directly above mine before posting. Eight maps on disc? Yikes! If you can't justify buying the DLC, how can you justify buying the game? I guess you must really value the single-player campaign.

Even more reason to pick up Battlefield 3 or Resistence 3 over COD.
Exactly
Complete ripoff!! I'd rather put that money towards Limbo.
I feel sorry for all the parents who are forced to fork out this much money just so they're little gamer can remain popular with his or her friends at school. Only reason it sells is cos everyone who buys it wants to "feel" included.
I have never bought a CoD map pack and never will. I actually feel sorry for all those people so close minded that the only game they play is CoD and they think they're a hardcore gamer. Play 15 more and different titles, THEN you'll be worthy of the hardcore gamer title.
8 maps, 12 new guns, 4 new character types and 2 new co-op missions sounds like it's worth $15. 4 maps? People are clearly dumb to pay that much for an aesthetic change in their virtual play space. It sounds shallow, but it's true.
So long as it sells, Activision will continue milking it dry. How much longer will this madness go on for?!?! I just want CoD to die already, or reinvent itself like CoD 4 did over its prequels.

Early dlc could definitly make a big difference in hardware sale #'s in my opinion, there are ALOT of people who love COD and want their maps asap.
Have never bought a map pack for anything.. and I never will.. =^.^=
Ive only bought map packs for KZ. You get the same amount of maps as COD for 1/3 of the price. Otherwise I agree with you. It's tough for me to buy maps.
COD- Crack of the gaming world… LOL
lol so true it's not even funny… oh wait, damn!
They are probably making more money on the DLCs alone compared to most games available on the market. It is insane and also very unfair.
Agreed 100% until your "very unfair" comment. Nothing unfair about it.
I just got Blops for free & surprisingly enough, I really enjoyed the single mode campaign so I can't hate on it.
But I'd never buy any of their jacked-up priced DLC.
Now, any KZ3 DLC is well worth it!
Yea there is a few technical drawbacks but the SP campaign is quite enjoyable packed full of action and "oh s*%#, that was awesome" moments! I enjoy all the CoD campaigns, I get to play games and get my action fix in at the same time.
No.
Damn you $14.99 price tag. Its the only reason I have not will continue to not buy COD DLC.
CODhead- "Can I get this new map pack for free?"
Activision- " No…"
CODhead- "I got these cheeseburgers man…" LOL
Huh?
I clearly missed something there.
…down for a 187.mc eight aka awax was awesome in that movie
oh joy!
