Bioshock Infinite Scores Big In The E3 Game Critics Awards

A whole lot of fantastic games enjoyed great showings at E3 2011, and the results are in for the annual E3 Game Critics Awards.

When we saw the nominations , we weren't exactly surprised. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception , Bioshock Infinite , Batman: Arkham City , The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim , Battlefield 3 , and the surprising Tomb Raider raked in most of the nods. And as it turns out, Irrational's hugely promising new entry in the Bioshock franchise has earned top honors:

If you check the official website , you'll see that Bioshock Infinite won Best of Show, Best Original Game, Best PC Game, and Best Action/Adventure Game. That sweeps away the competition; Uncharted 3 didn't win anything, which we have to disagree with, but Naughty Dog will have the last laugh come November. Also, the PlayStation Vita earned the Best Hardware award, which should excite the portable aficionados.

One thing to note, though- Bioshock Infinite doesn't come out until next year, so it has no chance of taking home any end-of-2011 honors. We still want it, though…really badly.

I just saw the Bioshock demo gameplay today (I know, I'm late) and I was honestly blown away. This is coming from someone who isn't even that big of a fan of the series. So the awards are well deserved, in my opinion.

Bioshock Infinite will be a force to be recogned with in the future. Trust me on that.

No doubt Bioshock Infinite will be amazing. D1P for me. Question is, get it on PC with slightly better graphics or get it on PS3 with the original Bioshock included on disc?? Decisions decisions!!

I love portable gaming, so the PS Vita is a no brainer for me. Another question is, should I get it day 1 or wait the usual 2 years for a cheaper slimmer model? Judging by Sony's track record, the launch system should be just as good as any models that come out later, so I'm not as scared of buying Sony launch hardware compared to other systems on launch. (360, what a travesty, and the DS got more redesigns than a Kardashian!!)

I didn't feel sorry for buying the PSP-1000. Its build alone is vastly superior to the later models. It's only the screen which is inferior, and the lack of Skype suppport (and that's not a deal breaker to a lot of people).

I say go for PS3 version as I've heard the tech behind the game plays to the PS3's strengths.

I wouldn't have complained if it went to Bioshock Infinite or Uncharted. Both games made me say wow. Too bad I can't really play Bioshock because of motion sickness when playing FPS games. It's times like this when I feel like I'm missing out. Oh well…

Really, motion sickness? Wow that sucks. Bioshock is damn near my favorite game this gen. Have you tried training yourself to be more confortable with those types of games? Third person is not too dissimilar an experience, and games like Fallout 3 let you change between the two views very easily.

I know Claire! Just imagine how many good games I've missed this generation alone (with its fascination for most things FPS). I have play a few FPS every now and then (Resistance 2 and Killzone 3), but I can't really play them for long and I find myself getting killed more often than usual. 🙁

Well some of the better FPS 'viewed' games I've loved are Fallout 3, Bioshock, and Oblivion, and they are much slower paced and methodical than something like Killzone. I bet you could play em just fine. Have you tried the Bioshock demo? If not go DL it. =)

You can play Fallout and Oblivion in third-person view (I did), so there's no reason to miss them, if you're at all interested in either.

Use Mirror's Edge to condition yourself. If you can face that, you can face just about anything. I had some real bad motion sickness when I first watched a gameplay vid for that one.

Thanks for the input guys! I'll download the Bioshock demo later and try it once done. If I could indeed play Oblivion IV (and hopefully Skyrim) as well in third person view then I;d be very much delighted!

And the Playstation Vita beat out the Wii U for best new hardware as well. Yay! =)

I'd say it's deserving, but Uncharted 3 will certainly give it a run for its money. Everything in Infinite sounds like a colossal improvement over the original Bioshock, while UC3 will likely only be incremental over UC2, but that'll still be mighty impressive. And I was really glad to see that Tomb Raider was nominated.
