Frostbite 2 Lets Need For Speed Grow

With that nifty new engine they're using, the new Need for Speed will be bigger – and perhaps better – than ever before.

In fact, according to what Need for Speed: The Run executive producer Jason DeLong told IGN , the Frostbite 2 engine has allowed the developers to implement three times the amount of available track as any NFS predecessor. It's going to be "epic," he says.

"We’ve got over 300km of race track in the game this year. We were able to, with Frostbite, create more than three times the track than has been in any previous Need for Speed."

This story-based racer involves a high-speed race across the country, from San Francisco to New York. Therefore, all that extra track makes perfect sense, and we're hoping for a unique and invigorating experience. This won't be exactly like any other racing title you've played and with Frostbite helping out…yeah, we're pretty excited.

Need for Speed: the Run begins its cross-country dash on November 15.

That is music to my ears.

In a story based arcade racer, the more varying track locations the better.

I haven't played a NFP game since the days of the 1st PlayStation. This one looks really good.

I'm seeing a trend here it would seem that more & more developers are trying to implement a good story into games in certain genres that usually don't need it, I welcome it with open-arms.

Awsome piece of news.. This game sounds quite promising now and a definite change from your regular racer. I have to put this on my watchlist for sure. Can see this seating pretty next to GT5.

I hope this is better than the game I'm plodding through right now. Midnight Club LA… It's one of those games that gets so close to being right that it totally frustrates you by not getting there.

Well, NFS Hot Pursuit was pretty good, but limiting. I kept wanting it to open up like Burnout Paradise, but it wouldn't comply. Hopefully this NFS game will be better still.

Midnight Club LA is one of my favorites, and in my book, they nailed everything right except the high difficulty on those challenges.

Completing the races with the highest ranking was to much for me!

I agree with High, it's frustrating close but no cigar.

Burnout Paradise… Now *that* was my kind of car game. The best I've ever played. Why is there no word about Paradise 2? It has to come, right?

No word on BP2 Beamboom, Burnout Paradise is very much my kind of arcade/action racer too. I love GT5, but for totally different reasons. Burnout Paradise has probably received more play hours than anything else I have played this generation, so I hope it's clear ho much I like that game and the genre in general. But the controls in Burnout were just tuned to perfection, Midnight club LA is really good, but the control isn't as tight. that's not the controls themselves since you can reconfigure, it's the physics. The drifting in Burnout Paradise was done so much better. I just find it harder to predict in MC:LA. Also, you could power slide in Burnout Paradise, and feather the throttle to alter your path and 'feel' your way around a corner. If you can do that in MC:LA, I've yet to figure out how, I don't get the same feel for the road that I felt I had in BP.

I'm enjoying the game, the car customization is fun, But I find myself looking for the occasional SuperJump or opportunity to barrel roll the car in mid air…. 😀

The only real problem I had with Hot Pursuit was it's terrible soundtrack. I could only stand one song, and only part of it.

I hope in the course u can stop in and race some fellow strangers along the way like in the NFS: Underground games.

NFS:Underground was my favorite arcade racer EVER! You could roam around and even drive around, I love that! I hope it's something like that. Right now it's sounding like it's different tracks. I want to actually race across the country with different check points where you stop, rest, upgrade or change cars if needed. Now that would be awesome.

I'm still waiting for a good free roaming, street racer. This might be it but at the moment it doesn't sound like it.
It would be EPIC if they would make a sequel/reboot of Underground 2. That is what I and many other NFS fans, well at least the old ones who haven't been happy about NFS games lately like me want.

If this NFS proves to be much better than the last few, this may be the first one I but since Underground 2.

Underground 2 was the best!
Will we ever see another from NFS?

This might be my first NFS game ever. I did play around on my friends PS2 but never got into it. My uncle had The PS3 NFS about sanctioned racing and it felt out of place.

I don't see how it is the tech that allows them to do it. But I'm not going to argue. It sounds pretty cool, but when it comes to arcade racers, I prefer open world, which this doesn't seem to be. Ah well, still good.

That's what I thought. Couldn't you have twice the roads in RUN in any previous NFS but it would just not be as up to quality and not look as good.

If this is racing across the country cannonball run style i'd be all for it.

Fingers are crossed for this game but I an't holding my breath. NFS has been disappointing since after NFS:U2(Best NFS EVER!). I'm waiting for another one of those. until then. I don't see me ever getting another NFS.

Now what about GT5, Will we be getting big updates and DLC or will it all come in GT6:Prologue?

I would love underground 3 too. But this game looks and sounds fantastical. I havnt played a nfs game since underground deuce.

I think it may be high time I correct that.

And a totally off topic question for the psxe community.

Should I snag parasite eeve, or grandia from the psStore?

This sounds very pleasing to hear.
Looks like i might end up adding another racing game to the pile. My favorites so far this gen GT5, MNC:LA. (I also own Burnout Paradise but i couldn't get into it, and everywhere i look it seemed to get praised. That's a good thing doe it got fans but it just wasn't for me)
Oh on a sidenote i just recently picked up Fallout NV when i went to pre order BF3, Elder Scrolls V, and Mw3. And man i got hooked!

just hope they fixed the laggy controls of HP.
i mean come on how can you have such slow unreliable controls in such a fast high paced game?
shame when something so small and stupid spoils whats a perfectly good game!
