If Heavenly Sword 2 Exists, It’s Time To Tell Everyone

Ninja Theory didn't want to do it. They said the first game "didn't make enough money," which, at 1.5 million copies sold, is a tough pill to swallow. Supposedly, though, the sequel is in the works at an unknown studio.

So…what's up? Where is it? If the project does exist, the developer in question should probably speak up and build some hype. They have to know that Heavenly Sword generated plenty of fans, and those same fans have been hoping for a sequel since 2007. It wasn't a perfect action title but it laid the groundwork for a fantastic franchise and to this day, I maintain it boasted the best lip-syncing I've ever seen; i.e., the spoken words actually lining up with the mouth movement. It also featured great acting in general, a lot of beautiful visuals, a solid story, and a reliable, entertaining action mechanic.

The bottom line is that people do want Heavenly Sword 2 . It isn't a first-person shooter; the competition would only be significantly stiff if it came out alongside a new God of War (or perhaps the Devil May Cry reboot). The only thing that worries me is that if a new development team is in charge, how will they approach this sequel? We assume they won't have access to Ninja Theory's same resources so HS2 will undoubtedly look and feel a little different…and that might prove tragic. Even so, we just gotta know: is there a sequel in the works somewhere or not? Tell us!

Heavenly Sword was the very first game I played to completion on my PS3. I loved it and I promise if there is a sequel I will buy it… lets just hope that if it happens it lives up to the first one.

Nice Gumbi! HS was my second game I played to completion. Uncharted was my first game I completed on the PS3. I was late to the party though.

Same here I remember playing it on Christmas day on my old fat ps3 (RIP) and it was the first PS3 game I completed as well. If a HS2 comes out I will def be getting it day 1

Love, love Heavenly Sword! Even though it was a fantastic game, I hated the final boss. Now today with everything I have learned over the years I probably wouldn't have such a tough time against that end boss.

I hope the hype machine kicks into overdrive soon! They really had some great ideas when they made HS! One of my favorite parts was the scale. I also enjoyed shooting the controllable Arrows. If HS2 exists then I am for sure going to play through HS again.

Yah… That final boss was a bit of a …

But it all came down to timing and being able to felect his attacks. It really wasn't that hard once you worked out his patterns.

LOL! felect, and it took me this long to notice… I think I meant deflect.

I'm sure when you get as good as you, Lawless, at deflecting attacks in games, you get to have your own word. You definitely meant felect: deflection Lawless style!

Never played it. Any good?

We still have quite a bit of exclusives to brag about this year. Maybe it's best to wait on announcing a sequel for when we've passed a few of em.

In my personal opinion the game *looked* very good, but the actual gameplay were very middle-of-the-road imo. Worst part were the boss battles who had those ridiculous "press-this-button-now" chains that I hate, that takes all attention away from the gorgeous scenes during those sequences.

But if your focus is on impressive visuals and can handle the linearity and quite average game that hides underneath the gorgeous display then I'd say get it.

It's probably the only ps exclusive game that can compete with god of war franchise. Gosh, beautiful, polished, wow. What really gets me intrigued is what the sequel was supposed to be about.

E3 2012 maybe. Take your time, take your time, I want that game looking good.

I bought heavenly sword after hearing all the hype you guys gave it. Not my cup of tea and i didn't understand how to kill one of the bosses, so i still don't know what happened in the end.

Unfortunately, at the time i was a fool and traded the game in. I bet if i tried the game now i could easily beat what part i was stuck on and finish the game…

I am also only half way through it and have not been able to complete it. I remember I spoke to World about trying to complete it, but I simply can't do it… not good enough I think with button mashing and button sequencing 🙁

I haven't played the first game yet, but that's only because I cannot find a friggin' copy of the game in my country. I am definitely keeping an eye out for the game though, as I know it'll be my kind of game (downloaded the demo from the PSN and absolutely loved it).

So yeah, if Heavenly Sword 2 is in the works, I think it's high time for the Sony and the developer working on it to actually start talking about it.

And btw, if the game is indeed in the works, please please please… retain Anna Torv as the voice actress for Nariko! I'm obviously a huge fan of Fringe. LOL

They got it at Play com at a rather low price, Platinum edition.
Play ship all over the world at no extra cost.

Oh, I'll take a gander at that. Thanks for the heads up Beamboom!

Edit: I took a look at the site and I realized Play is a European store. I'd probably check eBay or Amazon first if I could find a R1 copy there. But I'd buy it from Play if I can't. Silly I know, but that's what happens when you're OC. Hahaha!

Support your european friends today! We NEED it! 🙂

No, but it's a webshop ("there are no borders on the web" :)) and they deliver more or less all over the world at no extra charge (the price on the product is all you pay). Or is it the delivery time you are worried about?

I used to buy a lot of stuff from Europe, particularly when I was in college. So yeah, I did support you guys. I wasn't buying gaming stuff back then though. LOL

Yeah, it's the transit that is kind of a pain. I bought a CD last month from England but I am still yet to receive it. Perhaps it's because of the inclement weather that we had for the past few days, but I don't think it took that long for a CD to ever get to my doorstep over here. That and the fact it's not R1. Just kidding! LOL

It'd be good, but I think that Sony should wait a bit longer before unveiling it. They've already got TLG, Sly and Starhawk lined up. And that's after what's set for the rest of this year, as well as the initial honeymoon period for the Vita. I'd love for it to be announced today, but I don't see it as being necessary. On the other hand there don't seem to be a great many uber-promising action games next year, so it could be a right bomb drop. I'll wait for an announcement until E3 2012. If it's not here by then, it ain't coming until a PS4 launch title at the earliest, if at all.
Peace.

sony SM are supposed to be working on it.
i hope so, if theres 1 new IP that deserves a sequel its this.
only game ive ever played that has a combat system anywhere near as good as ninja gaiden!
not your typical button masher like GOW and so many other action adventure games.
come on, if this does not deserve a sequel nothing does!

"… if theres 1 new IP that deserves a sequel its this"…

Indeed, it does deserve a sequel… If they had to use the GoWIII engine it would look pretty spectacular, and as long as they remove those blocky shadows…

I'm sorry… did you just imply that the combat system is as good of NG? That's crazy talk… But it does need to return, and if Santa Monica is behind it, that they can get in a good writer, because GoW never had the deepest dialogue, even though the story was grand.

"Not your typical button masher like GOW" Are you serious? This is as button mashing as any other game of it's time, with added quick time events & the same finishing move animations over and over. Furthermore the game is far far shorter than the likes of Ninja Gaiden & God of War.

The combat was ok with the three stances you could use, but as far as weapon variety goes Ninja Gaiden & God of War rips this game a brand spanking new A-hole. I liked how in Ninja Gaiden, the further you progressed you were given new weapons to upgrade, HS didn't have any of this, possibly because it was too short of a game.

Heavenly Sword looked good but it was what? 6 hours long? Way too short for a single player game with zero multiplayer imo. If there is another one i hope they put abit more meat into the campaign this time, otherwise it will remain a rental with a startingly pretty face like the first one, imo.

Ninja Theory blew it.

They should have re-focused on Heavenly Sword 2 instead of going mulitplatform with a title that not many cared for.

I bet they are wishing for a reset button.
