Everyone was wondering: how did Sucker Punch manage to work on inFamous 2 and the new Sly Cooper at the same time?
But you may have noticed that Sucker Punch's name wasn't involved in the announcement during Sony's E3 press conference. It's true that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is coming but there's a new developer at the helm- according to GamePro , it's Sanzaru Games, which handled those high-definition ports of the first three games. And you know, that Sly Collection was pretty damn solid, so at least the team has experience with the franchise now. As of now, the newest installment is slated to arrive some time next year, and platforming fans everywhere are excited. The PS2 titles were some of the best available last generation. Did you play 'em? If not, you definitely missed out.
So anyway, look for more on this one as it becomes available, and don't be too disappointed that Sucker Punch isn't directly developing it.

Wonder whether Sony owns Sly, like they own the Ratchet IP? There's no chance of ratchet ever going multi-plat because of that IP ownership by Sony. With Sly4 being done by someone other than Sucker Punch, it does rather suggest that maybe they do not own Sly, but rather Sony does.
So does Sony not own Sucker Punch?
Do they? I can't honestly remember now. If so, that's good.
Fairly certain that Sony does own Sly.
Sucker Punch is independent, but works exclusively for Sony.
Wikipedia (ugh, but always good for a quick search) lists Sly as a Sony owned property, as well as inFamous. It's clearly the same sort of partnership that they used to have with Insomniac.
Sucker Punch's deal with Sony is that they can make whatever game they want but Sony will own the IP.
SP are what you would call 2nd party.
there not owned by sony, they can make whatever games they want but the licensing rights are tied to sony, so if they want to do a sly game for example they dont have to get SP to make it.
which is whats happening with them in this case.
i asked them when i was at the infamous 2 launch event, i said seeing insomniac going MP was the saddest day in my life, please dont tell me SP will suffer that fate.
he started laughing then said in that case you will be very happy.
So, what is Sucker Punch up to next then?
Maybe something will be shown at PAX down the line.
My thoughts exactly.
They only just released inFamous 2… I highly doubt they're about to pop the locks on their next project anytime soon. Expect to wait another year or more.

Actually they are hard at work on a new IP. inFamous 3 will have to wait a bit.
Found this out yesterday, and I'm cool with it. They've worked on the series, and they're certainly adding their own look and feel to it. And when you add in the time travelling, as well as the continuation of the story and a furthering of the gameplay mechanics of earlier games… I have no issues with Sanzaru handling this one, and I believe that Sony may even try to buy them out if it goes well.
Ok, I'm sorry to ask this, but were the past games of sly good?? I liked the presentation of this new game. Not of my top choices but still, considerable.
Unbelievably good. Go right now and pick up the Sly Trilogy, or you'll be in trouble. If unsure, PSXE has reviews of the three games floating around, as well as the Trilogy set and I also have one of the Trilogy in the user reviews. It must be done!
I'm certain Sucker Punch owns or co-owns (with Sony) the Sly character since the Sly insignia is on that sling sack I have from Infamous 2.
Whatever the case, Thieves In Time is in good hands with Sanzaru Games as they did an awesome job with the Sly Collection. This will be a top-notch game like the 3 Ratchet & Clank games on PS3.
Agree. They should know a thing or two about Sly now that they have worked on the past three games. At least we can expect a proper Sly game and not something entirely different with the Sly name slapped on the cover.
Sony wound up giving Sly to Sanzaru because SP was way too busy doing inFamous 2.
But Sanzaru is staying in close contact with SP to make sure their Sly game stays true to the franchise.
ahem…sony bought sucker punch shortly after infamous success…and yea they own sly
Got a link? I could only find references to their close partnership. I'm not doubting you, I'd just be interested in more information.
Sucker punch is a "second party" studio for Sony computer entertainment. But Sly Cooper is an owned franchise of Sony.
just using memory here sorry…watching e3 streams…I remember the announcement, was sometime after 09 VGAs if I recall
ok…i think i might have them confused w someone idk
You may be thinking about Media Molecule.
They did the Sly HD collection so I'm sure they'll do a good job.
Sony's 2nd party devs help each other out. There's no doubt Sucker Punch and others will help them out.
The trailer looked really good. As long as they keep what made the originals good and expand with new things it will be great.
I got the Sly collection on Ben's recomendation along with the Prince Of Persia Collection too.
Can say best purchases made in a long while 🙂
Sanzaru seems to be doing a fantastic job of developing the game. It looks like it was developed by Sucker Punch. I'm hyped for the game.
I never played any of the previous games in the series but the E3 trailer looked really good! If the gameplay has this kind of graphical quality with the cartoony style then sign me up!
really disappointed SP are not working on this!
i mean dont get me wrong, im sure it will be fantastic, but it just is not right having a sly game made without SP!
speaking of SP, the EU blog FINALLY put up the infamous 2 launch party trailer.
was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun that!!!!!
wish sony would do another one, would kill to go to a uncharted 3 event and bring both evan and cristophe to it.
