E3 2011: Tretton Says “You Are The Lifeblood” Of Sony

You had to assume Sony would start with an apology.

To start Sony's E3 2011 press conference, SCEA president Jack Tretton offered a big thanks to their partners for sticking with them through the PlayStation Network ordeal.

And after saying that PlayStation 3 sales numbers are up over last year (which was the biggest year of the PS3 to date), he stated the obvious: consumers are the "lifeblood of the company." He adds that Sony remains committed to delivering a quality, reliable experience for all consumers, and says the "value of the platform is exponentially greater today than it was just a few yeas ago." Now he's moving into something special…yep, they're kicking off with Uncharted , and if you're watching, you know how amazing Drake's Deception looks. Welcome the Naughty Dog guys.

And we forgive you, Sony. Let's just focus on the future…and hope the hackers suffer a deserving fate.

And we forgive you Sony. We just hope that the PSN is a lot more secure than how it was before the hack.

As for the press conference… Elena and Chloe will both be in Uncharted 3! Yay!!

Jack you should offer a bounty for the hackers responsible for the outage. As for U3 that was totally nuts!!! I can't wait to get my hands on it!

All I can say is WOW. And the demo was the St. Louis level (where I live) and that was a treat.

I'm actually excited by this one. 3D TVs are not really cheap, but if they're gonna sell this for $499 then I'm definitely getting one. I have a small room so 24" should suffice for now. Would've been better if they made it 32". I wonder if it's 1080p (FHD), though it may not make much of a difference since it's a relatively small screen. Awaiting the complete specs for this!

I think this is a very smart move on Sony's part to bring more 3D tvs into homes at decent price. Kudos to Sony.

@Zettai

32-inch? For $499 with 3D specs, full HD in 3D and the twin view mode, along with a copy of Resistance 3? Who are you freaking kidding?

I have a lot of respect for Sony. They are the lifeblood of gaming as far as I'm concerned. I feel bad for them, thinking they owe me an apology when I actually owe them a huge thanks for shutting down the psn.

I thought Jack and Kaz handled the PSN outage really well. They spent more time thanking fans and partners for the support than apologizing. Don't worry Sony. The fans that matter have still got your back.

i think their apologize was fine, though they didnt have to do it i think how they said us the consumer is the the lifeblood of Sony really shows that Sony does care for their fans

I wish I could have watched this live, but I had to work unfortunately. But without a job, I can't buy games, right? Anyway, I think Sony handled the ordeal very well. It was over in a matter of a month (very quick, considering everything they did) and put together a very nice welcome back program. Even if there wasn't that program, I would have forgiven them anyway. They were victims too, remember.

I'll never forgive Sony just because "There's no need to"…The hacker's f*cked us all, not Sony.

I'll never forgive those hackers & they need to be gang-hacked in prison, and on a twice-hourly basis.

TheHighlander

Uncharted was just ridiculous. I want that game now.

As for Jack's apology and that of Kaz. The two of them did a great job appreciating their customers and apologizing, but the apology was unnecessary to me.

I completely agree with Bikersaint. There's no need to forgive Sony, because Sony was as much a victim as we were. I also agree with him about what needs to happen to the no-life low-life responsible for this wave of hacking.

the only reason there would be to forgive sony is not having adequate firewalls/hacker protection… on the other hand these hackers should be looked at as terrorist because thats what they are. not in the suicide bomber way but in a way that they disrupted our normal way of life. thats all they are terrorists who live in their mothers basement, trying to hurt "the man" why because they have daddy issues. they should send a multi national coalition after these hackers/terrorists.

had to piss myself laughing!
kaz taking a pot shot and jacks tie, then jack taking a pot shot about kazs favorite game!
wonder how he feels about the new title……..
😉

as for there customers being the life blood of the company, well is that why you treat them like gum under your shoe?
especially if you live outside the US!
always said customer support has gone down the sh*tter the past decade, but sony really raised that bar!

Clamedeus

Why are you so negative? They fixed what was wrong, and all you can say is that they treat their customers like gum? I think they did a good job correcting things, I've never had to call Sony so I wouldn't know that part but seriously.

ok ill bite.
first off, after the launch of the ps3 jack was interviewed asking if linux and BC would stay for the life of the ps3, he was asked this because they removed said feature of current console.
he said yes, were in this for the full 10 years were adding features not removing them.
how long did that last?
there constantly lying to there fans.
they promise the world, and very rarely deliver on anything!

all this exclusive to US crap!
you dont see M$ saying sorry EU but you dont get a gears 3 beta in your copy of bulletstorm now do you?
you dont see M$ saying sorry EU you dont get a limited edition were giving to the states now do you?
they take several weeks to notify consumers that there info is at risk, and someone could be at there house helping themselves, or that someone could be using there card.
they say we have the best security in place, so why are they still being hacked?
hell, today sony pictures got hacked and the whole server source code was leaked with a rumored million passwords to developers accounts!

then theres every debacles i have had with them.
first time i rang them for my ps3 the drive stopped reading ps3 games, the guy told me MAXIMUM THREE WEEKS!
3 weeks later i ring, oh sorry i dont have that info with me let me ask the relevant team and ill give you a call back by 5:30.
12 the next day, hey why did you not call me back?
oh sorry i forgot.
so how did you go, wheres my console?
ahhh, let me search and ill call you back.
NINE, NOT THREE, NINE weeks of putting up with that crap i FINALLY get my console back!
but in a cardboard box!
no bubble wrap, no nothing to protect it, just my ps3 bouncing around like a tennis ball!

same thing with countless YLODs, another drive, and 2 faulty power supplies.

then i get my move controller, eagerly awaiting to play it i get home and cant sync it to my ps3.
i plug it in via USB press the PS button it syncs, then i unplug it and it looses sync.
tried 6 different move controllers thinking they were faulty, rang sony customer support on countless occasions and they had no idea what was going on!
how can you make a product, but not know how to troubleshoot it?
took it down to EB, BOOM straight away he says theres a problem with the syncing connection and gives me a refurb ps3, i go home and it works flawlessly!
EB know the ps3 better then what freaking sony do!
its like mercades saying sorry sir i cant fix your S class, so you take it to BMW and boom like brand new she is!

then the piece di la resistance.
my PSN account.
i noticed some unauthorized transactions on my bank account, so i rang sony and they said no those 100% are not yours some one must of got your account details ring your bank and get a refund.
i did so, and now my PSN ID is banned because i got a refund for credit card fraud!
sony allowed credit card fraud, so they ban my account!
kick me while im down why dont ya!?
they dont care who did it, they dont want to help me, they just want there f*cking money back!
after months and i mean MONTHS of f*cking around going through my banks CC fraud team, department of fair trading, and the ACCC going back and forward, i rang sony today saying if you can contact my bank and let them know i am the PSN ID holder they can revert the funds back.
they say no we cant do that, but how about we open your account so you can pay the funds that way?
why could they not do that in the first place!?
i have asked them 100 times for the past few months and they kept refusing, now its magically become a possibility?
i reckon its because the ACCC and department of fair trading have threatened legal action and that has whats magically changed whats possible and whats not.
pretty sad when you have to threaten a company to get what you need!

O, not to mention thanks to my PSN ID being banned my email account assigned to that was also banned and i could not access it.
the 6K course i have started via correspondence is linked to that account, and i could not do my work.
i was about to loose my account and enrollment fee because i was not responding to emails because sony the pricks blocked that email address!
in short they have created so many headaches for me, it would take a normal guy 50 lifetimes to accomplish!

that explain it for ya?

To be fair, I just downloaded a s**t load of games that I wouldn't of ever been tempted to purchase beforehand, so as with all entropy: you get negative and positive.

And we are, aren't we? I shall always serve Sony because during my childhood they gave me life, they channeled my blood. Thanks to them, and designers/developers out there I have quite an imaginative mind.

Well since no one wants to put Mr. No Name above that took up half of a web page with his little rant in his place properly, I'll just go ahead and roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty for everyone. To you I say, where in the hell is my Signature Edition of Gran Turismo 5, or my Black Edition of Demon's Souls? What's that? North America didn't get those versions you say? While you stupid Euros did? Get over yourself, and if you don't like how Sony treats you, then go to M$ where you seem to think the grass is greener. Btw, I couldn't possibly understand why your PSN ID was banned, you seem like such a nice fellow. What a travesty you were subjected to!

P.S. No offense to the Euros out there that aren't idiots like that douchebag above, I didn't mean to generalize, just trying to get my point across.
