Oh man, that's pretty .
Few fighting titles – if any – can capture the same slickness, sweetness, and sharpness of Soul Calibur . The fifth installment has been revealed and we expect nothing less than the most technically accomplished installment yet…and this E3 gameplay video lives up to expectations. All you Sophitia fans will be happy!
This is almost guaranteed to be a top-notch fighter when it arrives, and do we dare hope for more of a storyline this time around…? Of course, plot and character development are hardly necessary in the genre in question, but there has always been something about Soul Calibur 's atmosphere that set it apart. Can't wait!
Related Game(s): Soul Calibur V
Sophitia fans will be happy? Excellent. Time for the happy dance!
Sadly the video is not working for me, but the happy dance will continue.

Video works here… Reload?
Got it, I gave it a few minutes and tried again.
Looks good. D1P….
This game looks sweet!
I just thought of something… Can you imagine how long it would take to recover from fist-sized blunt force trauma hard enough to send you 10-12 feet in the sky, then continue to be juggled 10-12 feet in the sky by continual punches? I weigh nearly 200 lbs… I bet those Soul caliber guys weigh even more… That's a lot of broken ribs and ruptured lungs and a potentially stopped heart.
So yeah… it's pretty cool. 🙂 And speaking of Sophitia… what would a punch that hard do to a boo……
Don't ask that question! Too much pain and suffering!
Who was that guy with the shield and short sword beating up on Sigfried anyways? He looked like… well, Sigfried. So I was confused.

That's Patroklos. He's the protagonist and Sophitia's son. The girl is his sister Pyrrha.

How is Sophitia old enough to have kids that old? How long do these people live? Aesthetically Sophitia looks maybe 35 AT THE OLDEST.
Sooo… did she have kids at 15? 16?
-Arvis
Patroklos is her oldest child and he's 19 years old (I don't know Pyrrha's age). If Sophitia is going to be 42 in SoulCalibur V, then she conceived him at 23. Both Patroklos and Pyrrha have actually been around longer than in SCIV. Sophitia's story actually revolved around protecting Pyrrha. I'm surprised a lot of fans didn't know she was married or had a family (she got married in her Soulcalibur ending) lol
@Sonic,
I know, it's in all her dialog in 3 & 4 – about protecting her children I mean.
I see the combo system is in full affect this time around. This will be a purchase for me. Part 4 was excellent so I have really high hopes for five.
Time to go back in!
Why are people around whining about the graphics? (not here, on youtube)
Fighters don't improve graphics, get that through your heads people. Historically fighters use as many resources as they can to keep the framerate and other technicalities under control. Other games do as well, but any framerate drops or hiccups affect fighters worse than any other genre.
They COULD improve the graphics a little but I would rather have better mechanics, more characters, more modes, etc. than SLIGHTLY better graphics.

Looks great, hoping the character creation mode is better this time though. More varied character models would be nice. The tall/large slider thing is pure crap.

I spent a lot of time with IV and I say they are slightly better. I mean really people look at that game.
When I think of my first foray into a 3D fighter (Virtua Fighter in arcades) and see how far we've come it's astonishing.
Sophitia isn't in that trailer. That's Cassandra.
Looks great though, a little more shine than IV. Can't wait to get into the soul creator.

She's there, for a fleeting moment. Watch the IGN pull-apart of the trailer, they focus in on her for a moment or two. She's there…
Happy time!
I've played some Soul Calibur games before and enjoyed them. I don't now why but I never bothered buying any of them, and this trailer made me realize why I liked the few games I tried out in the first place. So, what would the PSX Extreme community recommend me from the series?
which game you mean? gotta go with the latest IV. Best character creator and its so pretty
The character creator is embarrassingly generic. If you're ok with generic model designs (hair, eyes, body types) with really creative clothing, fine.
But I can't understand why they couldn't add more hair styles (there are onnly like 10) or how there aren't more body type options. The whole armor stats are also frustrating because it forces you to wear stuff you don't really like.
I havent touched Soul Calibur since SC3, which I did not like as I felt it added nothing worthy to the series, the character creation was ambitious, but poor. Was Sould Calibur IV good or the one in the PSP, Btw I loved Soulblade and Soul Calibur II, I don't want to seem like I am completely trashing the series.
Huh!?
The character creation in SC3 was poor!? What recreational drugs were you taking when the game was around? The create a Soul element of the game was one of, if not *the* best character creators of the generation. SC4 continues where it left off.
SC is my favorite fighting game. I hope this is better than 4 was, it was lacking a lot of stuff. I hope this is even more packed than SC3 was.
its quite a shame SEGA never continued with either Last Bronx or Fight Vipers as both were better weapon figher concepts than what Namco gave us with Soul Edge and preceeding games.
In the case of Soul Calibur, I can honestly say that I have completely divorced myself form the series given the the fact that a)namco became a sellout when they stop doing arcade releases and b) the series just was no longer fun as the first 2 games(Soul Edge and Soul Calibur). If Namco is hoping to change my mind, then good luck because its not working just as it didn't work with Soul Calibur 4.
Stopped doing arcade releases? You mean putting the games in arcades, or releasing the arcade version on console?
SC4 was based entirely on the arcade version of the game which ran on modified PS3 hardware in the cabinets
"SC4 was based entirely on the arcade version of the game which ran on modified PS3 hardware in the cabinets"
This have to be the biggest joke I ever heard and why? there was "never" a coin-op release of Soul Calibur 4. Even if there was coin-op release then it would've been all over Arcadia Magazine or be in an distributor release inventory.
Anyhow for the record, the last ever coin-op SC was SCIII:AE(Arcade Edition).
Without more digging I couldn't find the article I read (years ago) that talked about this directly, but I did find this that talks about Tekken 6 and Namco arcade systems that are derived from PS3 hardware.

meh.
never really been a soul caliber fan, picked up 4 since i was getting bored as there were no new releases for like 6 weeks, then ended up taking it back a few days later.
to me theres only ever been one real fighting series.
MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!!!!!!!!
honestly, look like same old same old like the SC4, nothing really new. maybe worth buying when it drops to 19.99. but it is just me 😀
They have super combos now, huh?
