Is it possible not to have this in a video game collection?
Konami and Kojima Productions have announced the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection . This sweet package boasts Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty , Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater , and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker , all of which will be rendered in brilliant 1080p high definition. Even some of the 2D elements in these titles will be reworked to match the new HD visuals. Furthermore, Peace Walker will be the first title to feature PS3/PSP save game interoperability, which Kojima calls "Transferring." Once you transfer a save to the PSP or PS3, the save is locked so as to prevent accidentally overwriting progress or version conflicts. If you wish to change platforms, you just have to hook your PSP and your PS3 together to transfer the save.
Now, this collection is also coming to the Xbox 360 but obviously, "Transferring" is out of the question. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will release for both the PS3 and 360 in November, and we're guessing it'll be on your holiday wish list. In addition, there's a Zone of the Enders HD Collection , which features both of the first two titles and gives everyone a chance to see the sci-fi insanity in awesome new high definition.

Sounds good. I loved MGS2 back in the day. I'm really excited for the Zone of the Enders HD stuffs as well. Never played the second one.
There's a face I haven't seen commenting in a long time. So what is Zone of the Enders? I've heard about it just no idea what it is.
Actually if anyone has seen the Konami pre E3 video @ Game Trailers, it pretty clear that MGS5 will be multiplat. I just died a little inside when he chose the X360 controller to demo its new game engine that will power their next games… he just hovered over the PS3 and picked the X360 controller! What a sad day for PS gamers. Never will we see what Kojima could truly do with the Black Beast…
Karosso… that is shocking to hear!
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
I definitely will get it, cause I never played either of the three games. There were rumors that Peace Walker will be coming to PS3 when it was launched on PSP, I didn't even bother buying it and waited for it instead.
I will not buy MGS3 a third time.
I will not buy MGS3 a third time.
I will not buy MGS3 a third time.
I will not buy MGS3 a third time.
fane would have been better if you only wrote it 3 times 😉 lol
I'll probably end up getting this. I'm an MGS nut
@Fane1024
But it'll be in 1080p this time! How many of your other copies are in HD?!
@Simcoe; how shocked would you be if he said all of them 😛
Sounds like a awesome deal. Three great games for the price of one. I am really liking these collections.
Can't wait. Got the collection for the PS2, but hate busting out the PS2 to play it.
Why in the HELL is the 360 getting this?!?! This is probably what Kojima was so depressed about. His masterpices getting pimped out by greedy Konami. Outrageous!
pure disrespect to put these on Xbox
I was wondering the same thing.
=(
Probably more of Konami's saying than Kojima-san's. Another reason for xbots to gloat. At least they're not getting MGS4: Guns of the Patriots.
…or maybe not until the next console generation. Oh well. The days of third-party exclusives are definitely a thing of the past.

Get your pitchforks and torches here folks!
Only $7.99 for a pair. Plus it comes with a complimentary map to Konami's HQ.
They more than certainly strong armed him into doing this for pure revenue. It's sad really. I would have rather these games stayed on their respective systems on the brand they belong, then be sold out to M$ for a quick buck. No doubt why Kojima was so depressed. At least we can keep the sanctity of MGS1 to ourselves and without it they are still missing a large piece of the MGS puzzle HAHA!!!
Is actually a smart move, MGS isn't actually very well know by the general 360 owner, so they need to put this to hype the release of Rising.
Square Enix must be celebrating. This will put the focus on someone else for a while, when it comes to upsetting the Sony fanbase.
Thinking the same thing I could understand if they was doing it for the Nintendo cuz a MGS title did appear on the GC. I guess since the 360 is getting Metal Gear solid rising as well and they feel the xbots need something other than one MGS title.
This is still a problem to you guys? Come on. The Playstation is in a much different position now than it was last gen. Last gen it took up a huge part of the market, mainly because it didn't have any competition at one point of it's lifetime and that paved way for more titles (and making exclusives for it became the norm). Now it seems that Microsoft learned from last gen and has a larger part of the market. The 360 is still the preference to American gamers. Times have changed guys; pretty soon they'll be no more 3rd party exclusives left
This will *always* be a problem.
What does American preference of system have to do with this? I'm an American and prefer the PS3 so already your logic is flawed.
Then just sit there and dawdle, complaining about a change that's going to happen regardless. If your not going to accept the fact things are different than go ahead, but it really don't make you look good. I don't approve of this myself, because it shows that developers are more more into profit than about providing good quality titles *cough* Call of Duty *cough*. It's sad to see the industry go towards the path of hollywood, but it's well on it's way there.
@JMO_INDY
They're considering the fact the 360 does better in sales in the US than the PS3. Looking at it's numbers, they're not going to just let go of a lot of potential consumers. They will think only focusing on the PS3 will keep them from earning more sales. Why else has there been so many multiplats this gen? Yes, the 360 is inferior compared to the PS3, but so is the Wii…and look at progress it make after about 5 years.

If what you say is true then it's high time Kojima and Sony have that talk about collaborating/merging…
@shadowscorpio
Kojima has always had a good relationship with Sony/PlayStation, so maybe a merger would be very appropriate. But at this point I don't think it's likely to happen, especially after this announcement…
I thought it was because Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance was available on the Xbox as well back then, hence the update.
Doom, I don't care whether "it really don't make you look good" or not. I still dislike it, and I'm not alone in that.
This is madness!!!
@TheHighlander
As I said, go ahead and do it and clearly you're not alone (given this site's preference) so that doesn't concern me. And by "not making you look good" I mean to say "it makes you seem immature-ish", especially over something that was more than likely to happen. I apologize if that offends you, but that's just how I look at it.

Once again a flawed argument as the MGS series has always sold better in Japan than in the US where you so say the 360 holds a stronger position (though I'm pretty sure the shift has been going in favour of SONY globally for months now). Even then it's more then one market and obviously more PS3 fans enjoy the MGS series than say the 360 fan base so another point against it. Overall the PS3 consumer demographic should be of higher priority than a Multi-system approach to an exclusive series, The fans should be treated to any remakes of their classic games that they enjoyed by being a loyal customer in the PS1 days and should be getting the HD remakes exclusively without hesitation. But in the corporate world greed overpowers loyalty and Kojima is ashamed of Konami I am sure.
I never bought anything Konami after they sued Pentavision, and with this news I probably never will.
@JMO_INDY
What's this about 'flawed logic'? I'm saying it as it is. Yes, the PS3 is stronger globally, but it's a still a fact that the xbox still outsells it in the US. I'm not an Xbot or a fan boy but it's hard to argue against something so painfully obvious. There's no doubt that the MGS sells well in Japan, but I'm saying the company was actively looking at the 360's American fanbase and took it into consideration. That's one of the reasons why it's multiplatform. It would've been better as an exclusive imo, but they already made up their minds.

It's not a lack of maturity, it's a lack of patience with the industry, and a lack of respect for Mircosoft and just being plain inflexible.
All I have to say about this is that I remember XBots going on and on about the cutscenes of the MGS series and how they're ever so boring blah, blah, blah. So, why give the games to an unappreciative audience?
The series by and large is over anyway. There's no point in getting upset in previous titles coming to new audiences now. The journey of Snake is over now. Why not let as many people enjoy these games? Besides people there isn't just Metal Gear Solid missing but before then too. As with other series it usually ends up being opened up on other platforms after a certain point usually like this eventually no matter what. I for one am fine with it because it means people who never bothered to by a specific system for this series might actually get a chance for the first time, albeit a really incomplete way of experiencing the story. Playing ME without ME2 has nothing on this comparison.
Don't talk to me about Rising, no that is not a continuation of the series proper.
It's just another hilarious reminder that they aren't getting MGS4. They've probably played these others already – Xbots were once gamers too (PS2 owners).
If it was coming to the PC you wouldn't care.. Stop caring so much fanboys 🙂
Oh and personally, I've already got 2:Substance, 3:Snake Eater(not Subsistence unfortunately) and PW.. So I might consider if the games are the later versions

The 360 is getting it because every single MGS game other than mgs4 and the psp games have already been on a microsoft product guys. It's not like they were all exclusives before people. They all eventually came out on the original xbox, pc, as well as a gc one.

This thread became pretty unreadable quickly. Instead of rejoicing over the fact that we could play ZoE and Peace Walker in HD it turns into how mad everyone is that the games will be on 360.
This isn't MGS5 being announced multiplatform. These are 5-10 year old games being re-released for a quick buck on current consoles. The 360 versions will in no-way shape or form make the PS3 versions inferior or "dumbed down". If anything, it just means the 360 versions will have multiple discs. Not to mention MGS2: Substinence was already on the orginal Xbox. This isn't anything new, really.
Zone of the Enders was one of my favorite games on the PS2, as was MGS2. I never had a chance to play ZoE2 or MGS3 so this announcement is sweet.
Be happy you will get to play these games if you haven't. TGIF, people.

@Ishkur,
You don't know me very well do you? I'd personally be just as irritated that it was going to PC. the franchise really belongs on PlayStation, and the singular aberration on the Xbox does not alter that.
@Jimmy,
I don't know how unreadable it became, opinionated perhaps, but not unreadable. The day we see a re-mastered Halo 1 & 2 coming to the PS3 is the day I will start believing that platform exclusivity no longer matters. Until then, forgive me for thinking that platform exclusivity does in fact matter.
@ Highlander
Your posts are never unreadable. They're very thought out, articulate, and well, opinionated, ha.
Like I said I understand the argument against multiplatform titles vs. exclusive titles for this generation (see: LA Noire losing content once it was made to fit on 360), but for HD remastered titles from previous generations of consoles? For better or worse, 3rd party exclusivity is dying (or dead) and HD "collections" are a quick way to make money without putting in all the time and money into making a brand new game.
It makes sense for Konami and I don't really get why it angers so many people. I can look over at MGS2 for my PS2 on my shelf and not think it has diminished in value because it will now be on Xbox 360.
Love the fact that Konami is introducing their 2 best series (in my opinion) of yesteryear to a broader audience. I don't know why its believed that 360 owners are less deserving of playing these games.
@LegendaryWolfeh
EXACTLY and don't forgot on Gamecube too. MGS was never exclusive to Playstation other than the titles you just mentioned. Just because the best in the series have been on Playstation doesn't make it 'Sony owned'. In fact it really started with Nintendo, but you wouldn't call it a Nintendo franchise, right?
Unless the words and symbol of Sony Computer Entertainment are on the front box, the developers can move to whatever platform they want.
@TheHighlander
How can Halo ever make it to the PS3 if it's a first party game? That's like saying Uncharted could go multiplat
Last edited by The Doom on 6/3/2011 10:08:20 AM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Bungie are not owned by Microsoft…
No, but the Halo series owned by Microsoft. Eventually Bungie is going to move away from it, leaving it to Micosoft.
yes, the series has appeared on other consoles, but how far did that take it? where did the series get its recognition? where did it get the most support? what kept pushing it forward? certainly not Nintendo and it damn sure wasn't Microsoft.
At all the MS hate stems from them (probably literally) throwing money get games. It happened with Castlevania, it happened with Resident Evil, it happened with Devil may Cry, it happened with Final Fantasy. Need i go on? But the point is, once those games went to Xbox, the quality AND content both suffered greatly. Microsoft doesn't seem to care about the affect they are having on the industry, all they care about is how much money they can make off it it.
Also, I wonder why MGS is included in the package??
