Final Fantasy V Heading To North American Network

It really isn't my favorite Final Fantasy but hey…it's Final Fantasy .

According to a recent ESRB listing , another role-playing classic will soon make its way to the North American PlayStation Network. As you can see, Final Fantasy V has been rated for the PS3 and PSP, which of course means the title should be headed to the PSN very soon. FFV featured an archaic version of the Job System found in Final Fantasy Tactics and – if I remember correctly – an ungodly amount of random encounters. Maybe it's just how I'm remembering it. Anyway, the story follows Bartz on another epic FF adventure and if you're a fan of old-school turn-based combat, you're gonna want it. However, you might pass if you've already got the old SNES cartridge or Final Fantasy Anthology for the PlayStation, which featured FFV and FFVI.

Is this the last FF to make its way to the Store in this country? Are we missing any others? FFV has already been announced for Japan and Europe, by the way.

I've got it in the Anthology so I'm cool. Funny facts: The first translations named the hero "Butz" The first anime (which can't seem to be found anywhere anymore ever) changed it to Pretz (like pretzel! yay!) but didn't follow it so good, and then finally we get Bartz.

It was an okay FF.

I haven't played it so I'll be buying it when it comes out. I miss turn based JRPG's, it's a shame they don't make then anymore.

And with it comes the long load times that are hard coded into the game so it's a pointless purchase. Get it for the DS.

The GBA version is a little expensive to buy now. I have the Anthology collection on PS but never got around to it. Are the load times really that bad?

I have it for PS as well. Yes, I think they are. 5 seconds doesn't sound like much for loading up the menu screen but when you realize you open up the menu a ton during the game it becomes a burden. I'm glad they are releasing these games on the PSN but they sure are lazy about it.

I think this is part of the problem with SE. They see these old FFs selling on PSN for play on the PSP or on another platform for the DS, and they only see that as the strength of the FF brand, they never look below the surface to determine whether it is some aspect of the game and it's play that is what people are attracted to. To them, it's just the name.

I have 6. I heard it was the best but I still haven't tried it. I've tried all the rest (tried=keyword, didn't finish some) I really want to play 6 though. I hope it's not like 2, I hated 2.

hmmm, its closer to the steampunk era of FFVII but still kind of medieval. It's kind of like 9 where there is no main main character but people are always splitting up and having adventures then coming together. I didn't take to it like most did.

So 7, 8, and 9 are on the store at present. V now, along with VI and Chrono Trigger have ESRB listings saying they'll be on the store at some point.

I hope it's sooner rather than later, and I can't wait till what, this Tuesday, for the store to hopefully return.

The more FFs I have on my PSP, the happier I'll be. =<.<=

The sooner S-E stops pussyfooting around and gives me an FFClassic set, featuring every FF game from the original through XII (excluding XI, but including X-2) the happier I'll be. And if it requires two dual-layer BDs, then so be it!
Peace.

I thnk thats asking for a bit to much, Did you play the PSP remake of Final Fantasy IV, it was superb, I would rather they remake it to to that quality than just release it on a compilation.

Playing it now. I agree it's a great PSP game, and I know that to ask for a complete FF set is a bit much, but I just really want to play through all of the older games and see the differences and why XIII is held in such low regard compared to all of the others (no broadband, so no PSN d/l's, just as a heads-up)
