Oh man…I've been waiting for 12 years to say this- Duke Nukem Forever has gone gold.
Gearbox Software has announced that the long, long -awaited game is officially coming; that June 14 (June 10 internationally) date is now written in stone. A demo will also hit the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live service on June 3, but if you intend to play it, you'll have to be a member of the DNF Forever First Access Club. You're in if you've purchased a copy of the Game of the Year Edition of Borderlands , or if you've pre-ordered the hotly anticipated game from participating retailers (GameStop, Amazon, EB Canada, etc.). Just as a frame of reference, the game in question was first announced in 1997 and went on to redefine the term "vaporware." In 1997, the first PlayStation had only been out for two years, we had yet to see Half-Life , and I was a freshman/sophomore in college. …shut up.
But the wait is almost over. And to celebrate, watch that hilarious Return of the King trailer , and don't forget about that awesome YouTube video by Swedish director Paul J. Helin. Hail to the king, baby!

I hope DNF comes with a remastered copy of DN3D. That would ROCK. I know there's a high res version for PC but the damn thing doesn't find my controller in newer windows.
1997? Man I was in 11th grade and I remember being excited about reading the announcement in Gamepro.
I was in 10, had my first sip of Zima at Matt Baluski's and we played the Die Hard Trilogy game for a straight week.
BTW you honestly play DN3D with a controller!?
Gearbox has also approved an updated remake of Duke 3D so I'll be waiting for that one as well.
Geo,
Hell ya….PSN release I'm assuming?
PC only for right now as far as I know. But I'm sure Gearbox will carry it over to all systems at some point.
i felt like a kid in a candy store when i saw that!
one of my most favorite shooters ever released, and my most favorite platformer ever released!
crash bandicoots getting a HD remake as a cry engine 2 mod.
now i know why they call it the cry engine!
I was kinda interested in this until I found out bout the 4vs4 MP.
I'll wait for the price drop on this one.
Was Duke Nukem a big-seller?

I don't know how you'd compare the sales from that many years ago but it was the defining game of the FPS genre after Doom. You can't understand the MP being that way unless you know what it was about back then.
Well it's sure to be a fun game based on that announcement trailer, but I find 4vs4 is too small.
Maybe the old Duke fans will understand that even 4vs4 will be fun, but not a younger generation gamer like me though.
Snake,
You don't buy a DN game for the multiplayer. It's all about the SP.
Agreed. MP was just icing on the cake so to speak. SP is where Duke is best suited. That said, I would love to see a co-op game with Duke teamed up with either Lo Wang or Serious Sam or both. Talk about a laugh fest with all the one liners and quips they use.
Looks like MP was just tacked on which is how I like it. The idea behind the MP isn't to run and gun. I believe there can be a lot more involved in killing your oponents than point gun and shoot. This means having too many players would take away from the MP, not improve it.
This is a DAY1 for me. But the game I'm most interested in is the new Tribes game. Tribes to this day still gives me the greatest multiplayer memories/experiences….and that was all during the 56k days.
this is like the chinese democracy of videogames!
i thought it was unusually chilly out today.
I guess that radio host got the date of the Rapture wrong, for surely this is a portent of the End Of Days.
Hey Ben… You've read Inferno, how could you make that mistake?
Anyway… Man, I was out of the loop of gaming when this was announced. Hell, I was in Grade 2! I feel as though I've just been blindsided.
I was 5 and playing Super Mario Bros. on my NES.
wow, looks like i gotta book myself into the optomitrist i could of swore that says did not finish has gone gold!
well ill be the son of a gun, pigs DO fly backwards!
so why do we have to wait another 10 days for the demo?
a pretty big F*CK you to all the fans who have waited 13 long years for this!
to those fans who jumped into the FAC so they can get the demo…………. A WEEK BEFORE RELEASE!
A WEEK!!!!!!!!
6 months waiting in the FAC lounge to get the demo a week before the game?
A WEEK!!!!!!!!!
funny way to say thank you for your support the last 13 years!
i swear to god gearbox have WORSE customer support then $ony!
BOOOOOOYYAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Balls Of Steel Edition – PS3
Waiting to be dispatched!
Let us remember this day….12 years….One of the most delayed THINGS ever….and we're reading "DNF has gone gold"……i got tears.
All praise 3D Realms, Triptych Games, Gearbox, 2K Games and Piranha Games.
Now, bring me back the REAL FPS experience!
I am 23.I first saw a poster of 'Duke Nukem' in a computer magazine along with my friend when i was in 8th class(8th grade for y'all westerners) in the school library and we thought that arnold schwarzenegger's in a game!!…and being huge arnie fans we were elated…and wanted so bad to own that game…….later we found it isn't arnie ..however we were excited abt it….and now after all these years it's getting released….nostalgic 🙂
And that's a fantastic score and might just be about right. That score would indicate a worthy wait.
As hyped as i am and as big a fan as i am, i'm predicting a 8-9 from myself. It'll be my first User review here.
I'm really pumped for this game. As long as they give us a big heaping pile of cheesy nostalgia, I'm sold!
Would anyone else find it kind of funy if they actualy cancelled it like a week before release?
It would make me laugh a bit.
then they release it anyway because otherwise that would be stupid
I'd rather they release the demo to all so that people could find out about the Duke. Seems like wasted advertisement to me, but oh well.
Either way, I'll be renting this to see if its any good, unless it gets completely stellar reviews across the board (which, considering the military FPS-crazed reviewers we have out there, would be a miracle).
I was in the sixth grade when I saw DNF in a Game pro magazine. I'll give Duke credit he refused to be canceled.
Now that this game is all set for pressing, this news surly gives new meaning to an old phrase….
"Golden Oldie"
I didn't preorder this because I pre ordered it 12 years ago….when it is sitting on the shelf I will buy it……now, who's gonna dig up Shadow Warrior and BLOOD……and remake those!!!!!???
Gearbox team GO!!!!
