L.A. Noire is the talk of the town.
Last week, we wanted to know how hyped you all were for Rockstar's latest, and while the majority certainly planned to give it a try, a fair amount said they'd wait for the reviews. Well, those reviews are in – as is our video commentary – and we're wondering how things turned out for the gamers. So many seem ultra-psyched for this detective thriller but some who were expecting another GTA or Red Dead Redemption would likely be disappointed. From the PSXE standpoint, we consider the game to be an important step forward for the industry; that MotionScan technology is a definite glimpse of the future . There's no denying L.A. Noire is a definite gem.
But now that you've done the research and picked up the game, what do you think? Does this one live up to expectations? Are you disappointed? Is is something entirely different than what you expected? Let us know.
L.A. Noire was never intended to be a GTA clone. How short sighted can gamers be. I know the gaming masses have been waiting for another GTA entry, but you can't substitute that experience with L.A. Noire. You need to use your brains in L.A. Noire, with the same intent as reading and interpreting a good book. You have to THINK!
This makes for a very engaging experience, for the gamers willing to put in the effort.
Bubblegum gameplay will be back in GTA, but we all just have to wait for it. In the interim one should get stuck into L.A. Noire and enjoy it for what it is, enjoy the set pieces and try to get others involved in helping you to solve crimes. Gruesome yes, but oh so satisfying when a crime is solved…

As always I enjoyed reading your post.
i got a poll for ya, should i go with a 42" panasonic plasma or lcd?
Neither. LED.
True.
well i was going for LED, but the salesmen i talked to today were pushing the plasma… i think it's growing on me now that burn ins are all but gone
Never listen to a salesman especially if it's at BestBuy/Target/Walmart/Frys or any other large chain store.
I suggest you research online. Forums or even Amazon give you an idea of what to expect by people that actually own the TV you're interested in.
yeah. thats the thing about tv's nowadays… i was convinced i wanted an led but researched and found that lcds and plasmas are both good in their own right. it depends on your setup and personal preference really… personally i'm leaning toward plasma now.
Plasmas tend to have great color saturation, while LEDs have fantastic brightness. I looked at everything before I got my new TV and personally, LED just seemed to be a slight step up in terms of overall picture quality.
But that's just an opinion. I found my 1080p 240Hz 40" 3D Samsung to be the best option for the money at the time. Things change fast, though.
plasma or LCD entirely depends on where your putting it.
in a light bright area LEDs are better.
in a dark area where its easy to draw the curtains and block all sunlight its impossible to beat a plasma.
also depends on your preferences, me i hate over saturated colors they look so fake tis why i prefer plasma they give a more natural look.
also depends if your going 3D or not.
if you are do not get a LED plasmas are FAR superior in 3D tech.
if you can afford it i would go with a panasonic NEO.
best looking TV out there bar none!
actually uses the same tech the pioneer KURO used which was the worlds best looking TV and one of the most expensive at 12K!
also if your going 3D get the biggest you possibly can, despite what she said size really does matter!
also research heaps!
look around find a few you like then read as many reviews as you can on them.
seriously though if you can afford it go for the panssonic neo, my cuz got one 2 weeks ago. makes my sony HX800 look like a 10 year old TV!
Don't go with an LCD in a smallish room like a bedroom(unless you're planning on heating the room with it in the winter! 🙂 Mine get SO hot…it's miserable in the summer and PS3 Turbo Jets started kicking in for the first time ever just sitting next to it. fwiw, jmho
For the most part the game is everthing I expected and wanted from it. Addictive detective simulator with some cool stories. It's a little disjointed, but they can on that if they make it a franchise.
….and you complain about my comings and goings.
Got my own game site to run now, lol.
Whaaaaaaaat!? Give me the link.
TitanReviews! But don't abandon PSXE…
yeah, well it's not mine but some of us have teamed up to have a go at it. Lawless included, still new to all this so if it seems rough be gentle.
Plasma it seems is outdated, why buy a product that will be obsolete as soon as you buy it, go LCD,LED,3D
You need to utilize the reply button.
u do realize LEDs are pretty much the same as LCDs right?
LCD panels are ancient history!
lasers the new way to go, but, well……
put it this way, was suppose to release in 07 and have not heard boo about it since!
plasmas are still the best way to go as long as you have a dark room, plasmas are like vampiers, they hate sunlight!
The only reason they are trying to get you to buy plasma is because no one else will and they need to make room for newer tech.
You need to utilize the reply button.
well unfortunately LA Noire, probably AC revelations and Twisted metal will have to be bargain bin purchases. Gotta get infamous 2, R3 and UC3 first, so come 2012, i'll have to get those immediately. LA noire just seems too good to pass up but damn im poor
I'll be picking it up in a couple weeks. I don't suppose the poll will still be kicking around by then?
Game is wasome, but it overhetas my console, I am very dissappointed that Team bondi or Rock Star don´t investigate the overheating problem. Killzone 3 and other my games which use all PS3 potential (Heavy Rain; GoW3 etc.) works normally no overheating problems, I can play them for days and my PS3 wont overheat. I am 100% convinced that is L.A Noire fault, it seems it is a bug which send to console hardware false or unneeded infromaion which causes the overheat. I have fat 60GB version, but I can reassure that this problem is not in my console, because othe highend games runs prefectly.
wasome? Nah, I gotcha. I wonder what the cause of the overheating issues is. Surely L.A. Noire doesn't push the system that hard. Well, my beautiful 60 GB sits atop a bookcase with the vents *just* hanging over the edges and a good distance away from any walls. Ventilation is important!
Peace.
Did you get the update? 1.01
It's a great game but, I expected more cases… The amount of cases in the story line is not enough. 🙁
So you are done with it already? How long did that take, you reckon?
They never are in a quality immersive game! I could play this one for weeks! 🙂
WHY! Must you tease me? It'll be at least Saturday before I can play it. /sadface. Ah well, everything else in life is looking way up at the moment. /HAPPY
Peace.
its lived up to expectations except in the storyline department.
you cant really change anything, in allot of cases you cant even choose who you charge!
WTFs the point of that?
you have conflicting evidence, 2 suspects and the game automatically convicts someone.
choices like that have really spoilt the game for me, its a great game, has awe striking attention to detail, but its those silly restrictions that take you out of the game.
instead of making me feel like a detective in that era, i feel like im watching a movie, or watching one of those pick your own ending novels.
small things like that seriously destroy the experience which is a shame because the attention to detail, the cars, the city, the music!
if it was not for those small silly stupid restrictions i really would believe im a detective in that time because the city looks so real!
it feels like i could pick up a photo of LA in that period and it would look exactly as it does in the game!
shame they had to go spoil the immersion with stupid silly restrictions!
all that hard work down the drain!
is that really true? are their choices to made in the game that have an impact on the story? also, yasha mentioned he wished there were more cases. just how long is this game?
This is some of what I've been worried about with this game, that it was too linear. That we as players are degraded to be just button pushers, and I hate that…
*Some* linearity is to be expected though, it simply must be like this with the current generation gaming consoles.
Seems I have to read a few more reviews!

Sometimes you have to get all the questions right or you're left with insufficient evidence and not given the option to charge the suspect. Circumstantial versus hard evidence plays a factor in some cases as well.
sorry for typos in my questions. need to proofread more.
here are some of my questions.
just how linear is this game? can you at least select what cases you can work from your detective desk? is there any replay value? i've heard comparisons to heavy rain. is there more of an actual game here rather than an interactive video? also, one poster above mentioned it does overheat his 60 gb ps3. has anyone else ran into this problem? i have a refurbished 60 gb from gamespot and i am a little concerned about that. overheating a console can lead to ylod.
@Excelsior1
I haven't had any heating issues. Rockstar and Sony made a joint statement about it a few days ago, neither was to blame for the issue.
As for the game itself I suggest you read Ben's review.
sometimes, but very rarely does your actions effect things.
theres even thing in the game you have to pass, if you fail it just keeps repeating till you pass.
i really wanted this to be a once chance affair, lay out my cards, let me choose one, then show me what i missed out on and the consequences for choosing what i did.
thats exactly why i enjoyed alpha protocol so much!
it actually changes the game from what you do.
you enter a door, and thats it that door is locked and the other paths are also locked.
LA Noires like a all stops train you know where its going, and you cant stop it.
what it should be like is a bus you know where its going but which path it takes, which stops it makes is up to you.
theres no freedom what so ever!
another thing that hurts it is the game holds your hand FAR too much!
you almost cant fail, its just so forgiving, so helpful.
games are suppose to play dirty, throw dirt in your face!
not treat you like a lill old granny, grab your hand, walk you across the street, open the door for you, carry you upstairs, tuck you into bed, then bring you your supper before reading you a bedtime story!
come on this is a MA game after all!
one would think its rated freaking G!
Good game. but not my type. I am still waiting for infamous 2.
…and this is a true comment. My 16 y/o son (who is a COD fanatic on 360, and loves FPS could take this game or leave it.
My daughter who lives CSI and crime dramas watches me play and is a big help on every case! It's like having my own live partner. lol
Calling this a game now Ben…really? just shows ya how screwed up gaming has become, ill take Darklight Conflict over LA NOIRE anytime.
My expectations for L.A. Noire were so big that it had no chance of living up to them. I freakin loved Red Dead. It was so original, but L.A. Noire was just to easy and felt like it took my hand and walked me through the whole game. That's just my opinion
a couple small issues but for the most part lived up to my expectations. bravo rockstar! another masterpiece. now get to work on GTA 3/vc/sa HD remake NOW!
