It sort of seems impossible in the surface, but we like to remain optimistic for PlayStation 3 owners.
Yes, we all know Remedy's involvement with Microsoft concerning the Alan Wake IP means PS3 fans are out of luck. We're not quite familiar with all the details of that agreement, though, and after the recent Alan Wake announcement , some journalists and insiders are wondering: how should we interpret the words of Remedy franchise development chief Oskari Hakkinen?
"We are really excited about this project which a slice of our team has been working on for the last months. It's something that'll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board ."
Okay, so maybe it can't mean anything outside of the Xbox 360 realm. Hakkinen could just be talking about the rest of the 360 crowd who didn't appreciate the first title…and God knows, there were a great many of those . But even so, there are a whole lot of questions out there, especially because we know next to nothing about this project. They say it isn't a sequel and it isn't just add-on content for the original.
Soooo…what is it?
The more quality games in the playstation library the better.
My guess is that it's just a new game with a similar (or even the same) gameplay style and doesn't really refer to the old one so new people can play without being confused. I'm guessing you're right about assuming it's just for the 360 crowd that missed the first one. I'd love to get it if it came out for PS3 though.
This is the first article I've read here that simply interpreted a quote in a certain way (at the very least, blatantly) =O
Aside from that observation like Matt99 above, the more, the merrier 🙂
Ooh! Alan Wake. The only game on the 360 that I actually truly respect. I went out and rented the game as soon as my brother got his 360 back and I LOVED this game. It is the 360s own Heavy Rain. Really amazing game, very inspiring for an aspiring writer (such as myself ;)). I'd enjoy it immensely if I were able to put this in my PS3 collection right next to Heavy Rain. Oh, how beautiful it would look right there…

What kind of stuff do you write?
@World
I write mainly fictional novels. I've written a couple of novels in the past, one science fiction and the other historical fiction, but I never got around to trying to publish them. Dirty business that is. Right now I'm working on a three book series – also fictional – that I actually plan on striving to get published.
I love writing and, like I said in a post a long time ago, that's another reason why I enjoy coming here. Ben's writing on editorials and reviews are really well written. I can really respect that 🙂

Interesting, I'm working on a bit of historical fiction myself. I particularly enjoy anything by Matthew Pearl.
*sigh*
I wish I had that talent, I enjoy writing, but I'm pretty sure that my talents in life do not extend into being an author.
gamer girl, might i suggest publishing them on the appstore? it could be a start
PC version of Alan Wake was canceled, so maybe they are refering that part 2 will be available on PC.
I totally agree, probably Windows.
Ehh….I never really got the big deal about the first Alan Wake. Too me it was "Flashlight, shoot, find batteries" repeat. The game had a good story though.
Sounds like you never played it!
How far into the game did you get?
What if they've found a way to turn it into a squad based shooter? You know, to capture all those mainstream gamers who didn't play the original…
BRILLIANT!
with flash lights lol?
Excellent Idea! lol
maybe for this one instead of just flashlights, they'll be handheld strobe lights, woooooo! lol
Kraygen,
Night vision goggles?
Night vision goggles AND flashlights. sounds like a winner to me.

Great :D, I have yet to play this game, If it were to come on the PS3 i would buy it instantly.
I hope this is more on the side of coming to us, pure and simple. I would really love to play this series. Even if it just moves onto PC, which it should've been on to begin with.
Anything taking inspiration from Twin Peaks is worthy of note in my book. Almost considered getting a 360 for it at one point. Not enough to warrant getting anything else though.
If it's coming to ps3 it better have a demo first, because frankly running down game "corridors" with a flashlight didn't really spark my interest and I'd have to try before I buy.
Sounds like most games
Maybe the PC version is back on, with overhauled graphics and stuff. It can't come to PS3 unless it is a total spin-off of that world.
Not an add-on and not a sequel though, that is weird cuz what else is there?
There certainly weren't enough 360 fans that appreciated the title that's for sure.
a reboot =D
But Microsoft published the first Alan Wake, so doesn't that mean the series won't be on anything but 360 and PC?
That is correct, but I'm not sure why. They published Mass Effect 1, but 2 came to PS3. We need an expert on this stuff.

Well Bioware was bought by EA, who is all about multiplatform, so that wasn't surprising. I suppose it depends if Microsoft is publishing again, right?

Yeah, and MS doesn't own remedy, but they might have some sort of rights to the Alan Wake name still.
But Remedy said that they aren't calling it Alan Wake 2. Sure that could mean a subtitle, but I'm inclined to think otherwise. And a quick look at Wiki makes it appear as though it was a one game deal, so it could go the same route as Mass Effect. Interesting…
just because they published the first does not mean they own the IP rights.
just like what EA did with ME2, ME1 will never be on a non M$ system because they were the publishers.
EA published 2 so they can have it on whatever system they want!
AW2 would be the same, remedy own the IP rights so as long as its not published by M$ then it very well could release on ps3.
i doubt it though simply because AW is such a story driven game, and releasing 2 on the ps3 without the original would be pointless!
yea EA did it with ME, and they had that interactive comic but it did not work at all!
i need to go back and play the original once i get a chance.
You speak truth on that, Anon. Indeed M$ does not own the IP of Alan Wake, which was the only thing that I was unsure of. Sure, if Remedy was to do a direct sequel, it wouldn't be all that great for us, having missed out on the original, but if they merely expand the universe, giving us different characters in the same setting, or similar scenario, perhaps crossing paths with Alan Wake, it'd be a far better proposition for PS3/PC gamers.
Peace.
That's not fair! The xbox folks don't even like that game very much. How much did it sell? like a million, I know that's a lot but it would have done much better on the playstation. My guess is, it's going to windows phone 7.
Barely cleared 1 million Worldwide.
It might have done better too if it had a demo or was even advertised.
The sad part to that it was advertised.
It wasn't here in the U.S.
I own a 360 (bought it just for Alan Wake) without a demo, promo, or anything.
MS abandoned this game. Even a year after it's release, I hear of people waiting on it!

I live in the US, on the East Coast. I've seen ads on TV for Alan Wake a dozen times. It probably hasn't been on TV in your area. But it was advertised here a decent amount.

It took them so long for the game to get developed, went through a few different game engines I believe, and some other things. That it was released at all (and was a pretty spiffy game) is amazing to me. The only things I saw about it were some (p)reviews on Xplay and maybe 1 or 2 commercials.
MS screwed the pooch on that game. Had they more faith in it, I think more players would have bought it.
Yes, please bring AW2 over to the PS3!
I think he is talking about the xBot crowd who haven't tried it yet! I guess they want to increase sales 🙂
They are trying to remedy the situation.
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"

Ah, I see what you did there. 'Remedy' the situation. Akamai, Qubex.
Well, considering that they're not calling it Alan Wake 2, and aren't considering it a sequel, it's certainly a possibility. Though of course, that would require Remedy to shop around for a new publisher, and considering AW wasn't that much of a success, it may be difficult.
I just hope that "bringing people who didn't experience the first into it" (paraphrasing) doesn't mean trying to make it appeal to the CoD market. That would be a devastating blow to one of the few interesting (to me) 360 exclusives.
Maybe it'll be a spin-off, based in the same setting with a different character that perhaps crosses paths with Alan Wake? Or maybe it'll be like Dark Souls and retain a similar look, feel and style while changing up enough elements to make it feel like a completely new game, rather than an evolutionary sequel.
This actually makes me hopeful. AW is one of only two games that have made me consider getting a 360, so until it's confirmed otherwise I'll remain hopeful.
Peace.
I truly believe Alan Wake's failure had more to do with MS not knowing how to market this game to their crowd. Than that crowd not being able to embrace it. I can't remember any ads for the game and it released without a demo.
so true!
only 360 exclusive that i have not seen any advertisement for!
very unusual, 360 exclusives normally get so much add time i cant turn on the TV without seeing a add for it!
hell, i can still remember the halo wars add like it was yesterday!
not releasing a demo would of hurt allot too.
but what hurt them the most was the release date.
releasing the same time as PoP, RDR, BLUR, split second, was suicide!
plus its a psychological game which is one of the least popular genres out there!
plus it had no MP, which is a automatic skip on almost everyone.
its almost like M$ and remedy did everything they could to make sure it did not sell well!
I've seen a couple of ads for it where I live. It wasn't a very interesting ad to be honest.
its not a sequel, its a prequel.
for that reason i cant see it releasing on the ps3, ok ME2 did in the same circumstances, but how did that turn out?
that interactive comic was as useful in filling in the storyline as watching the game on youtube!
still gotta pick up the original when i get a chance.
hopefully M$ will have a change of heart and bring this and the original over to PC.
if they announce this for PC again then drop it later on, remedy are going to disappear off the face of the earth!
Most likely on PC.
