L.A. Noire Receives Short Story Series

When you've got a game so heavily reliant on story, it only makes sense to turn that story into print. … some people still read, you know.

Today, Rockstar Games and Mulholland Books have announced a partnership that will result in a series of short stories "based around the characters and cases from the world of L.A. Noire ." The collection will be entitled, "L.A. Noire: The Collected Stories" and will be available for download – oh well, print is dead – on June 6, three weeks after the game hits store shelves on May 17. Said Michael Pietsch, Publisher of Little, Brown and Company:

"We are thrilled to be embarking on a creative partnership with the team at Rockstar Games. The possibilities for cross-promotions of this nature, encouraging gamers to read and readers to play games are huge. We're looking forward to a new frontier of book publishing possibilities and see Rockstar as an ideal partner."

We're willing to bet the stories in the game are both interesting and well-written; to have more plots and more characters come our way in prose form is appreciated. Without a doubt, L.A. Noire is one of our most anticipated titles of 2011 and we can guarantee that the patient and observant will succeed. We can't wait to give it a try.

Shame it's not going to be out in print too, as I wanted to add this in my video game book collection too.

Damn!

I agree man. Why does everything have to go digital? Doesn't anyone like the feel of an actual book in their hands anymore?

How long is LA Noire? Is LA Noire another short story game?

I don't know what a short story game is, but no it won't have a brief campaign.

Well, almost as long as GTA. GTA took a good amount of time to complete.

Reportedly 25 hours doing only the campaign missions. A good length, but it is an open world game, so that's to be expected.

This nice but I'd rather have this as DLC later on.

You'd rather have novelised stories as DLC? What?

That's pretty cool, but I for one can't stand reading a bunch of stuff on my TV screen unless it's dialogue in an old RPG. I appreciated what Nier attempted with it's prose pieces but they got to be just annoying after a bit.

I like books and one day I'll probly be forced to get a Kindle but I can't fathom doing any extensive reading on my TV. Just, no.

I can't fathom anyone actually enjoying a digital read. It plays with your eyes way too much.

Can't stand reading novels, or even short stories in a digital format. I can barely force myself to read back over my own stories when they're typed, even though it's essential for proofing and editing.

In case you didn't get the point, either release it paperback, or don't even bother letting me know about it.
Peace.

Well this is disappointing. For one they act like they are doing something cool and original when in point of fact it is neither.

It would have been a lot cooler if they had released some kind of short story mystery novel set in the same type period with all the stories being based around cases completed by a certain individual who we would see in the game.

I really like what bioware did with dragon age when they released the 2 novels before dragon age came out. I wish they had continued writing novels for dragon age as they were pretty decent and involved a world that I really enjoy.

Too bad Rockstar decided to give us some half gimped attempt at storytelling.
