Developers are into reboots these days and if there's one franchise that needs a fresh start, it's Tomb Raider .
And thanks to Spanish publication Hobby Consolas and a summary of details posted in the NeoGAF forum , we have a clearer understanding of Lara's new adventure. On the cover of the magazine, we see a begrimed Ms. Croft with a bow and a climbing pick (what are those things called?), tying off a homemade bandage with her teeth. …gritty. And oddly appealing. Beyond that, there's a brief description of puzzles and early events, along with the mention of QTEs, and then the seeming confirmation that the new Tomb Raider will be more open than previous installments:
"We wanted to escape the system of 'stages' that offered the previous titles. Always exploring the island, but from the central area of the same area, we can climb, jump or investigate."
Plus, here's one other interesting addition- rather than Lara "magically sticking" to a ledge, she's going to have to grab it while jumping. This should prove more challenging for the player, but we hope it doesn't make the standard movement mechanic cumbersome and frustrating. Feel free to read up on the rest; there's a "special vision to separate color," for instance, and the designers talk about influences. Those influences include names like Uncharted , Assassin's Creed , and "the origin of 'Batman Begins'." Solid inspiration, yes?
Related Game(s): Tomb Raider
I'm open to these ideas. I could imagine a pretty cool TR experience with a more open world design. Puzzles and exploration can be a pretty natural fit in this case.
I've been excited about this reboot from the first page I read about it on GI. I can't help but have a good feeling about it 🙂
I think those body measurements are a bit….off. This game is sounding pretty awesome. Despite it's little glitches, I enjoyed Underworld more than the first Uncharted because the puzzles, platforming, and climbing were a lot more satisfying.
Her b**bs do seem larger than when I last set eyes on them, from the Game Informer's article…
Thought they were going for believable 🙂
PorkChop, yeah, pretty different games. Granted the theme and settings are very similar, but the actual game design between the two franchises are different. The first Uncharted was mostly a pop 'n fire shooter with quality cutscenes and acting. Whereas Underworld was much more puzzle-exploration with quite a bit of bugs and some pretty poor gun play. Though, I do like the TR games quite a bit, so I'm hopeful for this release.
Sounds like a good plan to me, I think with these types of games, changing from stages to a more open, explorative world seems like a good way to modernize, but you don't have to give up the feeling or general mechanic that made the originals great.
Sounds like good additions if you ask me. I like all the Tomb Raider games, and I would defiantly get this one on day 1.
I can honestly state that with Uncharted 3 on the horizon..
..I don't really care about Tomb Raider anymore.
Woa, the comments are all messed up.
Anyway, very hopeful for the lara reboot. It's giving me an uncharted vibe, but since it'll be open world that should be a pretty sweet change.
Bewbs still aren't big enough though 😉

I have such fond memories from the original Tomb Raider. I got it for Christmas and seriously almost shit myself when the T-Rex made its first appearance.
Oh how low the series as gone. I didn't care for TombRaider after the 3rd one. Sure I played them all but they weren't very good games.
Yeah PSXe is having technical difficulties it would seem. Poopy hackers. Hopefully our security hasn't been compromised.
Sorry post-traumatic PSN syndrome =p
Ya…I hope this scroll/comment thingy gets fixed pronto.
Just add more atmosphere, greater amount of depth (high ass things to climb) and don't try to make it so action oriented. Tomb Raider is all about finding lost treasures and exploring.
I disagree, it needs more action. The shooting in TR has always been weak and kind of a sidenote. There has to be some kind of real combat added this time round in my opeeneeyeeon
AAAGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Down with this damn suckbar. This is freakin' awful. I can deal with the PSN being down for months but this new comment section is outta control. If it is not broke, don't try and fix it. The PSX guys must have been bored.
Get unbored and fix this issue!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Ben,
I'm not sure if this is a glitch, we've been hacked too, or if this is supposed to something new for the PXSE, but I've got to give it a great big "down-vote" on this new comments side-bar-scrolling contraption.
Also, there's even a much serious problem with some of the threads that have a ton of comments, such as this thread….
"PSN Outage Turns Our Attention To More Important Matters".
It lists that there's 96 comments in there, but once inside that thread, there's only 4 comments that are actually showing up & the rest of the comments have gone AWOL.
So do you know what's up with the PSXE today?

Hey guys if you check at the start of the comments section it says: toggle scrolling/ reload comments, I just entered and got confused with the srolling too, but found a fix fast, hope it helps you!
Neither work for me. I can't turn off the scrolling and it's pissing me off.
dear sony,
please encourage devs to work together so we can have some franchise mash ups. like…
Uncharted (king) & Tomb Raider (queen).
thnx
your #1 fan
Sounds interesting. Haven't played a good TR in a while. Sadly, I've got my eye on Uncharted 3 right now, but if this turns out good I may have to rent it.
