Last week, we wanted to find out your favorite social networking site: Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, a blog, or all or none.
As it turns out MySpace and blogs seem to have gone the way of the dodo, while Facebook is the obvious winner. However, it's interesting to note that the second biggest group of voters opted for "None of them; they're all stupid," which may come as a surprise. After all, gamers have to love everything electronic, right? As it turns out, while the majority did indeed choose Facebook, a great many just don't bother with these social websites that seem to run the world. We're also honored that a few wanted us to put PSX Extreme as a choice, but doing that would not only be egotistical, but also inaccurate. There's a great community here but the thing is, we can't sell out tomorrow to Google for a trillion dollars. …pretty sure we can't.
Recently, we've noticed that the next generation of consoles has been a hot topic of conversation. Some publishers and developers, like DICE and Ubisoft, are looking forward to the emergence of new systems, while other studios are dreading that day. In many ways, Sony is playing catch-up with the PlayStation 3, but that doesn't mean we won't see a new Xbox or Nintendo platform within the next year or two. So what's your take on the issue? Want the new stuff now? Want them soon? Or are you just good with what you have for at least another 5 years?
I voted for not another 5 years at least. The PS3 has so much life left in it. I'm also not ready for something new. I know the one thing I would like though is BC. I never cared for it before but now I have way to big of a backlog. If it doesn't I guess I'll just keep the old system for once.
Me too, but that's cause I think the best games on ps3 today are "good enough", I don't need the games to look better or play better than the current top games. I just want more games like those and I will be a happy gamer for years to come.
Also, the difference between multiplat and exclusives (I won't enter that discussion again :D) is at least more and more diffuse as time has gone by, so that should only mean that we are/would be in for a treat the coming years, regarding quality *and* diversity.

Ya we have nothing but greatness from here on out. Just look at what comes this year alone.
Hehe well if this year is a sign of what to expect from the coming years then I *demand* that Sony stick to this gen a while longer! But the future can't be that bright…!
I voted by 2013 or 2014 just because it follows suit with SONY's tradition of it's life cycles. The past has worked out in those terms of course excluding the PS3's launch but that was a simple mistake in price terms. If they can get the price right, with a solid piece of hardware like in the past, and match it within a year of the competition… you have a winning formula Charlie Sheen would be proud of.

WOW, why include that POS king of the entitlement generation, he's certainly no role model.
And his show that he's taking around the nation sucks too, everywhere he's played…er….I mean ranted, so far people walked out 1/2 through it &/or demanded their money back, including his show at our place last night.
He's just another poser scumbag that thinks the world owes him.
Now, his dad, Martin, on the other hand is cool by me. Just a shame his morals couldn't pass Charlie's DNA test of only letting non-functional dead cells survive his brain matter

It was a joke referring to his Winning rants haha. Don't worry I hold no regard for him so chill, it's all good.
OK, I gottcha, didn't realize you were joking, as almost all the people that even bothered to go to his show last night were the early-20 something crowd.
And if they were looking for a new anti-role model, they didn't get one cause even they wound up walking out of his show, LOL
I have to say, I am not ready for a new console! I still think we can squeeze some life out of the PS3…(maybe not the 360 or Wii)
I dont beleive the Move extended the PS3s life IMO. I believe it just compliments a wonderful boost of life the PS3 is receiving since devs are JUST now getting the hang of this beast.
I don't see it as a complication, IMO it was just really a cool addition to broaden it's appeal rather than strain developers. I would really like to see more un-game related apps. for something like those demos we saw at E3
I'm good for another five years… or more. I feel like I'm just settling in with my PS3 (got it July '08). I need more time with it before I move onto something bigger and better.
What would be interesting to see is if Sony can go without releasing another system until the PS3 actually runs the full 10 years. That would definitely show everyone that they mean what they say. I mean yes, they SUPPORT their systems for 10 years, but when there's such a humongous overlap between their last gen system and the current one, it seems as if the last gen system isn't getting the attention it deserves. We're kinda living in 5 and 6 year cycles, not 10, if you really think about it.
I, for example, received a PS1 for Xmas of '96. I then got a launch PS2 (October 26, 2000, right?). Even though the PS1 was supported by Sony 'til '05, I'd practically moved onto the bigger and better PS2, hardly buying any PS1 titles, if any, because the next gen arrived, so that was just under 4 years. Six years later, the PS3 shows up, and the cycles starts again. I waited on my PS3 'til '08 though, so I felt like I REALLY got to see and feel the quality of my PS2, getting almost 8 years of solid usage. Sony definitely makes quality and capable systems, but I think they're short-changing us, themselves, and the systems by overlapping their cycles so much. I guess it wouldn't feel so bad if they released a new system 7 or 8 years after, not 5 or 6. You're barely halfway through at that point.
Of course, on the flip-side of all this is that the competition is releasing systems, with new tech (the Dreamcast landed in the US on 9/9/99, just over one year before the PS2. The X360 got here in '05, also roughly one year ahead of the PS3), so I'm wondering if Sony's hand is being FORCED into releasing a new system, or maybe the devs are making demands? I don't know, but the thought of it troubles me.
I'm sure there are many a factor involved, but whatever it is, I wish everyone would just relax, take a chill pill, and just enjoy what is currently available. If you get caught up in tomorrow, you'll never appreciate what's going on today. Yes, technology should keep moving forward, making advances in all areas, but please, let us bask in the glory that is our current system, our current tech, and the marvel in which it is utilized, to it's fullest potential. I mean yes, we're getting cream of the crop stuff; the PS3 is like in some kind of Golden Age. But rumors of the PS4 started flying WAAAAY too soon. Yes, they were rumors, but when the word finally comes from devs and industry insiders, it's like whoa, whoa, what's the rush man? Just my pocket-full of change.
I believe they were able to get away with the overlaps due to Backwards compatibility. But granted the PS3 doesn't have it and IMO doesn't need it, the PS2 had a good thing going for it being able to play any new PS1 games that came out and the vast variety of PS2 games arriving, it had the best of both worlds and in turn so did the consumer. Which was the real selling point for the system; that and the DVD playback. But I believe the PS3 has nothing to worry about, and neither do we. as for being forced handed into releasing a new system, I think it's a tactic to entice customers that the new system is a major upgrade (which the PS2 and PS3 were to their predecessors) to not let the customer get too bored and still be able to play the games they currently had at that point.
It's just business, and in regard you do have to keep up with competition. Competition was good when it was just SONY and Ninty but when M$ came in the picture it ruined the good natured competitiveness SONY and Ninty had.

I'm solid for at least 5 years. Multiplat devs are just recently getting some decent games onto the PS3 that don't break down so I have no idea why any of them would be ready for the next generation unless they are just sick of having to fit games on 360.
What's interesting is that Sony kind of holds the cards now, even if MS releases a new xbox that is somehow more powerful than the PS3, devs would still have to make their games multiplat. The next gen doesn't go forward until Sony says so.
Wii2 won't be a direct competitor, even if the new specs show it's a tad more juicy than the current xbox, but so is a pocket calculator.
Would it be a better idea for Nintendo to go the way of Sega? Nah, I highly doubt but one less competitor and then the could focus on software.
Main,
No way. Nintendo even today plays a huge part in shaping the videogame world, both software and hardware wise. The Wii is the first Nintendo console I haven't enjoyed. I doubt their new console has many similarities with the Wii.
I couldn't care less about MS but I still put my faith and trust in Nintendo.
Yea, Nintendo is still a big player like you said, i guess I'm picturing a trend that may or not be happening, they are losing steam with their console. Idk, I don't wanna say the Wii was Nintendo's Sega CD, but lets just wait and see if the next console will be their Dreamcast.
All and all I guess I just want them to go that way so maybe their games will go to other consoles. But then I think of Zelda on the Xbox and I die a little.
I will never understand this desire by some for Nintendo to stop making hardware. They make solid and reliable hardware. The more hardware to compete with, the better off the industry is. Plus Nintendo knows what's best for their software on their hardware. If people don't like the Wii there's other alternatives. Nintendo has said they are going to aim for the hard core games with their Wii successor and I can't wait to see what they have in mind for us. They managed to build the most powerful console last gen, I have faith they'll do the same with their new Wii. With them taking advantage of blur ray and better hardware that's capable of matching or surpassing the PS3, there is no reason for their franchises to go to other platforms.
I agree jawknee.
Nintendo did make one big console mistake, which gave birth to the Playstation and the rest is history.
The wii just seems a little out of place to me cause for as long as I can remember there was only either one system or the other, i.e Sega Genesis vs NES.

I have no problem with Ninty, they raised me so I'll always have a soft spot for em. But they can do their thing over there while I do my thing over here. Once the fisrt Wii is el mucho cheapo I'll snap one up for the Zelda games, same with Wii2.
Not ready for a new Playstation. I am ready for a new Wii. Wii 2 is a day one purchase for me. I just hope Nintendo doesn't delay The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword to make it a Wii 2 launch title like they did with Twilight Princess. I'm actually really excited to see what Nintendo is going to offer up. A Nintendo console with blu ray? Oh yea!
Jawknee,
Agreed!
I just hope that the WiiII's games give us the option to let us chose between using the Wiimote or a controller this time.
I mean I can see using the mote for some games, but most of the time I'd rather use one of my 5 different Wii & Gamecube controllers, but most games I've bought so far won't even acknowledge that I've hooked up a controller. GRRRRR
Yea most Wii games aren't compatible with the Gamecube controller. I don't mind using Wiimote for that games that were built around it. Metroid Prime is brilliant with the Wiimote. The best FPS with motion controls. Even better than the Move with Killzone 3 in my opinion. I even liked the Wiimote with Twilight Princess too though it could have been better. A Skyward Sword uses Wiimotion Plus. It looks much improved. Can't wait!
Yeah, I finagled a used Wii a couple months ago(the 2010 updated black model w/the newer updated mote) out of a Gamestop manager for only $109.
Not really into real RPGs, but I've only bought 13 games for it so far, all used and cheap(I based my buys so far on the back of the boxes, LOL, whatever looked like it might be fun, I grabbed).
But I am looking to add a lot more, & I definitely want "Shift" for it, just because I was able to grab a $100 Logitech Speed Force Wii wireless racing wheel for only $19.99 w/ free shipping during one of Curcuit City's recent email ads
My Wii games so far….
Alien Syndrome
Fantasy Aquarium World
FarCry Vengeance
Mad World
Overlord Dark Legend
Popstar Guitar Bundle
RedSteel
Saint
Sam & Max Season One
The Godfather Blackhand Edition
The Monkey King The Legend Begins
The Sky Crawlers Innocent Aces
Vertigo

I thought Circuit City went out of business?
"I thought Circuit City went out of business?"
Nope. Think it was just the brick and mortar stores that were shut down. Their website is still alive and kicking. Though the prices still aren't that great lol.
JMO_INDY,
The original C.C. did go out of biz, but they were bought by the same company that does "Tiger Direct" & one other company.
(can't remember who….damned CRS).
And if you were to check out each site, they're all exactly the same carbon copies of each other, except for the different basic color scheme for each site.
Plus if one site is out of an item, that means all 3 sites are too, so you wond have to waste any valuable time searching each one, LOL
CompUSA 🙂
@BikerSaint
I strongly recommend super smash brothers brawl. It is a must if you own a wii.
Biker, get the Metroid Prime trilogy. Three of the best FPS's I have ever played. Three games for a great price too.
Alien Syndrome is a classic… used to play it on my Amiga 500 and 1200. I still can as I have an Amiga 1200… what a beautiful machine in its day!
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
IGN did an article on the new Wii apparently rumor has it that it will be more power than the 360 and PS3. I don't know how true that is because hasn't exactly been confirmed.
Biker – I gotta agree on getting the Metroid Prime Trilogy. I don't own many Wii games, but that was a definite for me since I missed them on the gamecube.
Tons of fun with great music if you're into the Metroid franchise.
I haven't tried Other M yet…..anybody have any thoughts on it??
Sven, Other M is pretty meh compared to Prime. Interesting concept but ultimately falls short of expectations.
Thanks guys, I'll check into those games you mentioned.
Jawknee, I already have Metro Prime 1 & 2 in my GameCube collection, but I'm still wanting that trilogy for the Wii too, just got to wait for a used but still mint copy, to pop up somewhere on the super-super cheap.
@ BikerSaint
The other computer company that you referred to is Global Computer. It owns Tiger Direct and Circuit City (at least online they do).
2014 would be perfect or up.
Definitely not 2012-2013

I'll be happy to wait 5 more years for the PS4, got at least another good 5 years in which to savor a lot more exclusive AAA quality goodness.
And as tech upgrades itself as fast as it does, should make for an even be better "ALL-in -one" machine.
What exactly will a new console bring? Millions thought the Wii was revolutionary only to find out it's a gimmick with no real lasting value. What will a new console generation try to lure us in with? Better graphics? Not likely. Devs are already having a hard time pumping out current gen graphics. Better sound? Nope. More processing power? Do they even use the processing power they have at their fingertips now?
DICE and Ubisoft. Two devs well known for their screen tearing are asking for next gen consoles? Makes a gamer laugh.
I'm guessing new hardware will continue the trend of being the "multi" machine capable of offering so much more than gaming. I miss the days when consoles did one thing, play a videogame.
Maybe they want new hardware just so their current games won't tear so much.
After being on Facebook for several years I deactivated my account in 2007 and haven't been back since.
I'm fine with this console generation lasting another 2-3 years. I'll be upgrading my PC this summer (Thank you BF3) and I think the PS3 still has plenty of power within it so I'd say I'm set as a gamer.
I'm building my new top of the line gaming PC now. Just waiting for the rest of the parts to come in. My current system exceeds recommended specs for most games now but I'll be retiring it from gaming so it can handle all the other programs I'll need running. Once the PC is built, that part of my gaming will carry me through the next 5-10 years easily.
As for the new consoles. If a new PS, or any other console, was to come out real soon, I'd probably pass on it to start with. Seeing as how I only boot up my PS3 once every other week or so, I'm in no hurry to pick the newest one up. I'll probably get it further down the road at some point but from now on, I most likely will not be buying a console on launch day anymore as I have with pretty much all the past systems.
Will you be getting BF3?
Absolutely. Preordered three weeks ago.
::bromance::
Lol VG, we were just talking about that last week. BF3 is a paradigm shift; I think many console owners may use this to get a high end PC and bridge the waiting gap.
I ask… if you have the money, why not the best of both worlds… we wouldn't be having this discussion then…
Q!
"play.experience.enjoy"
I love having the best of both worlds. A high-end PC, a PS3, and a dead Xbox360 due to the motherboard melting.
lol LV, I wouldn't consider the best of 360's world coming from RRoD.
That's more like the worst of it's world.
MS should have a low quality, loop enabled, audio voice recording coming from a small internal speaker embedded on the 360 reciting, "haha sucker, haha sucker, haha sucker… "
LV,
Check your email, I left you a question in the one I sent you last night.
Saint,
Me being the lazy "boy" that I am I've yet to mail out the game. I assure you it will happen tomorrow and I will get a tracking number for you and email it to you. Once you get the tracking number you can mail out JustCause2. I'm actually looking forward to getting a 100% in it. That game got a lot of hate but it's some of the most fun I've had this gen.
