Dungeon Siege III will be ready to go on May 31 and if you're not excited yet…well, just a minute…read this.
You need to check out the most recent update at the PlayStation Blog , where Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman talks about how DSIII on the PS3 should be great for anybody who enjoyed Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance . Obsidian's latest is described as a "modern take on the classic overhead-view action/RPG," and PS3 owners needn't worry about control:
"Crucially, developer Obsidian Entertainment has put much work into making Dungeon Siege III play nice with the DualShock 3 controller without diluting the combat and inventory depth that genre fans have long adored. On the PS3, Dungeon Siege III’s interface is a robust approximation of the PC hotkey system, enabling you to swap between two battle stances instantaneously with a tap of L1. Each stance has unique strengths and weaknesses as well as an arsenal of special abilities that can radically alter your attack strategy."
Furthermore, we'll get "robust cooperative play support on the PS3," which includes two-player local co-op and four player co-op over the PSN. You have fair warning, though: as more warriors join the fray, the deadly denizens of the night will increase in number. For my part, I just want something that can be called a spiritual successor to Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath . If this is it, I'm satisfied.
Related Game(s): Dungeon Siege III
The first two in the series were fun games but if this one plays anything like the previous ones, then I wouldn't consider it a Dark Alliance or Champs of Norrath successor at all. I'll still be picking it up nonetheless.

Obsidian+Alpha Protocol=Fail, Obsidian+Fallout New Vegas=technology fail
I don't think I'll be chomping at the bit for this.
Why is local coop only 2 player? Ever heard of Ultimate alliance? 4 player local, jump in and out.
I've watched video's for this and I didn't see that big of a difference graphically so I don't know why they're slouching in the local coop area of the game.
I'm kinda interested in this as a huge rpg fan, but it doesn't scream top tier from what I've seen. I'm waiting for the review.
I say 7.2
I would agree with that, sounds perfect really. I couldn't see it getting less than a 6.8 or higher than a 7.5
If it breaks either of those boundaries I'll be shocked.
Cant wait. Huge dark alliance and champions fan. Anything of the likes with decent gameplay, story and combat count me in!

A spiritual sucessor to both Dark Alliance and CON? Not even close. What this game is though is nothing but a dull down version of the previous games and it doesn't suprise me that the DS communities out there already are rejecting this game on the basis that the game will not ship with a conversion/modding tool.
Why do you always seem to come across as a PC elitist, know-it-all dropkick? The game may have a PC following, but I can guaran-damn-tee that it doesn't match up to the audience that can be found on consoles, even if RPGs were the PC crowd's bread and butter.
And guess what? We don't give a flying fornication if the game can't be modded. The stances sounds like an interesting addition, and while it may indeed be 'dumbed down' from previous iterations, that doesn't necessarily make it stupid. The micromanagement sounds more complex and involving than say, FFXIII, or even Fallout 3 IMO.
I'm done with you.
Shoosh.
Never played Dark Alliance, but I remember hearing that it was quite good. I may have to look into this title a bit more, considering I want to expand my RPG repertoire. The only problem is the time that one needs to complete them…
With Obsidian at the helm though… I'm a bit hexy. Will wait to find out what kind of technical issues it has before deciding on a purchase.
Peace.
No doubt, Obsidian is king of the glitchy game that refuses to be patched. I would like their games a lot more if they would only fix them.
obsidian?
yea, ok.
that means possibly brilliant game held back by lazy developers who dont know how to debug there games!
so, maybe a rent, or a bargain bin purchase in the drought months.
My favorite feature of the champions or dark alliance games was the ability for my wife and I to play co-op together and each develop our unique character. This has been almost completely missing this generation. Really the only game I can think of was untold legends, which was a launch game. Most games of this ilk have made player 2 have identical abilities as the main player. Has anyone heard if this game will feature this kind of gameplay? Or any recommendations? The marvel ultimate alliance games came pretty close, but there weren't enough customization options to really make the character yours. Thanks folks. Enjoy your days.
Apparently yes, there will be a different character with a different skillset for the local co-op part of this game. I remember reading it a couple of weeks ago, in a preview feature at IGN. You should maybe check it out to see if it'll float your boat.
Peace.
Thank you lawless. I definitely will check out the preview. I really hope it ends up awesome! By the way, also thought of sacred 2 which allowed for tons of character customization in a game that was unfun and too slowly paced. Oh well. Take care.
This is a huge game for Obsidian. Not as huge as New Vegas was. But I would say this will make or break them. I am also waiting to see even though I am very excited. If this goes the way I HOPE then it will be a D1P for me. But I will need to see some reviews before I fork over the cash. Since this is a RPG I would be surprised if any legitimate reviews came out before the release date. I am really in the mood for this type of game. This is the ultimate COOP game and I hope they don't mess it up. Come on Obsidian, time to start writing a new chapter in your companies legacy.
Um, last time I looked this IS the successor of Dungeon Siege I & II, not the "spiritual successor" of anything… Sure it's an action-rpg just like Baldurs's Gate: Dark Alliance but that's about it. The first two in the series had great graphics and were both good games but not exactly Diablo caliber in any way.
Unfortunately from what I've seen DSIII looks like the typically "dumbed down for consoles" action rpg, like all games nowadays (like Mass effect 2 and Dragons age II etc) but hopefully they prove me wrong because the gaming world could REALLY use a GOOD action-RPG right about now in wait for THE BIG ONE – Diablo III.
Personally for my top down action rpg needs, I'll wait for Dungeon Hunter and Daggerdale and see how those turn out.
Both seem really good and I could get both for half the price of DSIII.
