Today, Capcom has confirmed Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City , which is currently in development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. They also mention that Resident Evi: The Mercenaries will come with a playable demo of Resident Evil: Revelations . As for the big new project, it's a "true third-person team-based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe." As prior information indicated, the story takes place between the events of RE2 and RE3, and players will have more to contend with than zombies. There will be an opposing extermination squad it seems, and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W's) are another threat. They say the game will "break the conventions" of third-person shooters and of course, you should easily recognize Raccoon City. Leon Kennedy is indeed on your hit list, by the way…don't expect him to go down easily.
We're still not sure this is what the ardent fans desire, but it's always intriguing to see a long-running, established franchise alter the core gameplay. We can pretty much guarantee the tank controls will be gone, but the squad idea…? Well…

I really hope the tank controls are gone, RE5 was good but the controls were terrible.
I'm still searching for a gold edition somewhere so I can play it with the Move, but I haven't tried RE this generation yet. Be interesting to see how the new one turns out, and what will be so 'revolutionary' about it
I agree. I am so over the control system in Resident Evil games.

Lol, I know the feeling. I've got a huge backlog of games that I haven't gotten to yet, and yet I keep buying more..lol
I hope they let people run and gun in this RE5.Stopping to shoot is getting old in this type of linear closed corridor game.

I'm on the fence about this one. On one hand I know they're trying to do something different. On the other I'm more so like "What!"…This doesn't sound like RE at all.
Then I'm confused..Who exactly are we playing as and why is Leon on the hit list…..
i guess leon is on the hit list if ypu are playing the faction after him, umbrella, i guess wants him dead.
i don't know how i feel about this. happy to return to racoon city, but i take it this is going to be a fps. not exactly my favorite genre. slant six all but destroyed socom as well.
will have to wait to hear more but yeh they have to change the stupid stand still to shoot thing
i think a co op 4 player resi game would be cool
Tank controls gone, awesome. Squad based shooter for a horror game, I have my doubts. Since I'm not a big fan of horror though, I'll wait to see what the RE fans seem to think of it before I make a decision.
dnt expect it to be an all out horror title. this sounds more like a left 4 dead concept. fun, and scary when the hordes of zombies ambush your squad.

Yup a much better game than RE5. Better game and better Resident Evil. Even Mercenaries was more fun to play in Resident Evil 4 than it was in 5.
The real issue I have here, if it's true, is that Slant Six is developing the next RE. My first Socom was Confrontation and it was AWFUL.
absolutely agree with that. that's why i mentioned them in my first post. slant six creating this game is my main concern.
Why tell us about the 3DS games? I want to know more about REPSP damnit!
At least now this is official, and at least we know why they're releasing the compilation. It's good to see Capcom trying new things, but I don't like that they're changing some of their core franchises to shoot new ideas around. Woudln't it be better to create new IPs?

Sorta sounds like it will be like Left 4 Dead meets Socom. Which would be pretty awesome.
Whatever happen to that Resident Evil game for the PSP? Since picking up a new PSP I was looking forward to that one. As for the new game I gotta admit it would be cool to play with other people cuz I couldn't find a partner for RE5 and I didn't have a PS2 network adapter for either Outbreak game.

With the way Capcom's going, this game's gonna be online only with an emphasis on cover-based TPS, action-packed, adrenaline rush gameplay. You know, what all Western gamers want. *sarcasm*
I a huge RE fan, and I know I'll get this day one. But i don't think I'll ever finish it cause how the hell am i s'posed to kill Leon??
Also, I can ignore the squad based, TPS stuff on the sole condition that I'll be playing as H.U.N.K. and his unit. It's about time that guy got his own game.
